Tried this place for the first time the other day and it was really tasty! We got the Cuban empanada and the chicken curry empanada. While they were both good, I really enjoyed the chicken curry. I can't wait to try the potato balls next time we go. We also shared the almond guava cookie cake later that day and believe me when I tell you that we should have shared it among at least 6-8 people because it was rich and FILLING. I wish there was more guava in the middle, but I would get it again. I also tried the iced tres leche latte and the woman who took my order said it was pretty sweet and it was. We got 5 empanadas- chicken, beef, curry chicken, ropa vieja, and bbq pork. They were fresh and crispy. Our favorites were the ropa vieja and the curry chicken which had the most flavor. Stopped in for my first time today because I know someone that says it is a better version of Porto's and honestly I thought it was pretty great. They have a large selection of drinks, empanadas, sandwiches, pastries, and a whole bunch of other things. It's a to go spot and everything that we ordered was ready pretty fast. It's pretty small on the inside, so only a few people can be inside at a time, but the line seems to move pretty fast from our experience. Love the hot, melty cheese. I would've preferred more meat filling, but it's still pretty yummy. My favorite item here so far. *Guava Cheese Roll: Stale crust. Little filling. *Empanada with Ropa Vieja: Dense, stale crust. Tasty, but dry meat filling. *Cuban Sandwich: Not your traditional Cubano. I am honestly surprised I haven't heard of this place sooner--people will compare it to Porto's but keep in mind it's quite different, with a few familiar items (in a good way!). Came here on a weekday around lunchtime and there wasn't much of a wait for food (in fact they already ran out of guava-cheese pastries by then). So many options for everything on the menu! One of the standouts for me were their beef balls - which can be compared to Porto's famous potato balls. However, I actually think the beef balls at OBRA are better. They have some cheese in them as well and overall have a much more complex umami flavor in my opinion compared to almost chili-like beef in the Porto's potato ball. Not sure if it was just this batch but there seems to be a lot more potato than the beef filling though in comparison. Would get again though still! Also got a tres leches latte which is one of their best sellers. It almost reminded me of a vietnamese coffee with the clear tres leches flavor, pretty unique drink. In interior is super cute and it has an "open outdoor" feel to it since the counter and entrance are essentially and open wall to the outside walkway. They have a set of chairs and tables you can sit down and eat in outside as well which would make it a nice date spot/place to meet up with a friend. The empanadas were 10/10 did not disappoint at all and were so soft and crispy on the outside, with extremely tender and flavorful meat on the inside. Yesterday, I visited Obra and was disappointed by the level of customer service I received. The store was scheduled to close at 6:00 PM, and I arrived at approximately 5:15 PM as the only customer in the establishment. Unfortunately, the attendant appeared inconvenienced by my presence and seemed bothered that I was there at that time. When I asked questions about the menu, the responses were brief and unwelcoming, which made me feel like my business was not valued. This experience was especially disappointing because I have placed catering orders with Obra in the past and have supported the business as a customer. I understand that employees may be preparing to close near the end of the day; however, customer service should remain consistent throughout business hours. Customers who visit later in the day deserve the same level of courtesy, professionalism, and attention as those who visit earlier. Based on this experience, I do not plan to return in the future. I would also encourage Obra to reevaluate who they have serving customers, as front-line staff represent the business and play a critical role in shaping the customer experience. A more welcoming and customer-focused approach would better reflect the standards that patrons expect from an establishment like Obra. read more

Some may think that this restaurant is expensive, however, if you compare it to Portos, maybe it is a couple dollars more but who has time to wait an hour in line? OBRA is a must. The potato balls are a couple dollars more than Portos but bigger. They're just as tasty and juicy, wasn't expecting that. Their Matcha cookie and Red Velvet cookie is so moist. At five dollars it's worth a try. You're gonna love it! The cookie is very tasty, big and there's some cream in the middle, which makes it even more flavorful. Now for the main entrée. This was my first time at OBRA. I was very impressed with the atmosphere and presentation of the food. I purchased the savory box and got the breakfast empanada the chicken empanada, and the Cuban empanada. The Cuban empanada was delicious, as was the beef potato ball 10/10. Unfortunately I received the chicken curry empanada instead of just chicken. Sadly, the breakfast empanada was awful. I couldn't even tell what was inside of the empanada. Both my daughter and I spit it out. The ingredients appeared to be a brown paste with no evidence of scrambled eggs or bacon. I'm disappointed but would want to try it again as much of the food was delicious and would have liked to give a higher rating. The cheese pull from the potato balls was a pleasant surprise. Flavor was great. We recently came back from a trip to Miami where we had amazing Cuban food. So when choosing empanadas we got the Cuban and the most popular, the beef and potato. The empanadas were solid, my favorite was the beef and potatoes. The service was great.
