Been wanting to try this place for a while and it did not disappoint! We ordered a handful of items, but here are the ones I've tried so far: Chicken Ball: SOOO good! The portion size was great and it was nice and crispy on the outside while the inside was oozing with cheese and flavor. When I've tried items like this in the past they were super salty, but this one was perfect! Ropa Vieja Empanada: Again super delicious and great portion size. I liked eating it with the orange/beige sauce but the green salsa was pretty good too. The pastry of the empanada was a great thickness so the filling/outer layer ratio was perfect. Wish I got more to bring home. Oreo Cheesecake: Nothing super spectacular or unique, but pretty good! I'm not a huge fan of oreo cheesecake, but I had a few bites and enjoyed. OBRA is amazing. it was featured on a foodies social media Instagram site. Some may think that this restaurant is expensive, however, if you compare it to Portos, maybe it is a couple dollars more but who has time to wait an hour in line? OBRA is a must. The potato balls are a couple dollars more than Portos but bigger. They're just as tasty and juicy, wasn't expecting that. Their Matcha cookie and Red Velvet cookie is so moist. At five dollars it's worth a try. You're gonna love it! The cookie is very tasty, big and there's some cream in the middle, which makes it even more flavorful. Now for the main entrée. We came here on a weekday afternoon and picked up some items for lunch. Parking was easy to find, and the store looked bright, clean, and ready for business. The Cuban sandwich was delicious, and the thick slice of pork was very tender and flavorful. The heaviness of the meat was nicely balanced with the tang from the mustard and pickles. The Beef empanada was bland and lacking in flavor, especially right after trying the ropa vieja, which was absolutely delicious. The ropa vieja empanada was flavorful and had bits of vegetables throughout the wet shredded meat. The Potato ball was big, but it was mostly just potato and had much less meat filling than meets the eye. It also had a slightly sour taste that was off putting. The included sauce did not help with the sourness. The lentil soup was a bit on the lighter / watery side than what I'm used to. I would have preferred a thicker texture. I also would have wanted the potatoes a bit more cooked down and in smaller pieces. The prices were definitely a bit higher than I would have liked, and not as affordable as other competitors . They do have a convenient app to use which also tracks points for future discounts. Make sure to check your order before you leave. One of us was missing a sandwich in our order. This spot definitely gets a thumbs up for having ample to-go options in their case. Their bell-of-ball in terms of menu items would assumingly be their empenadas. There are many flavors. I only had the budget for 1 plus all the other à la carte items I was sent in to buy. Here's the truth. I know nothing about empanadas other than what they're supposed to look like. These are baked although I thought traditional empanadas were fried or more on the oily side. These are doughy in texture. I wish there was more filling. The sauces are mid at best. Mayo with a very mindless mix of something sweet but no spice. Is this Cuban food? Maybe after trying the chicken ball, lentil soup, beef ball and a pastry I'd be convinced. Both the chicken and beef ball turned out to be decent but nothing like Porto's or the Cuban restaurants in LA which would be my point of reference. Idk. Spice is important as is flavor. I have been here several times and I will continue to go here as the food is absolutely delicious. I wish that they had more locations and also closer to where I live. I want to start off by saying that while I really wanted to like OBRA, it was tough. If I had to give a true rating, 3.5 is where I'd like to land but then if you add price, that's where I had to bump it down to the 3. Maybe I'm wrong in comparing it to Porto's but if that's what social media is selling it to me as, it's tough not to. I'll start with the good stuff. I didn't have to wait that long to order. They do have some outside seating for us to sit with our pups. The Cuban Sandwich is really good. Lastly, the Iced Tres Leches Latte was delicious! So for everything else. Our food took quite some time to come out after we ordered (we literally walked up to order), and once the food came out, it seemed like half of it was hot, and the other half was cold already. We got (1) Chicken Curry & (1) Turkey & Gravy Empanada, (1) Beef & (1) Chicken Potato Ball, (1) Guava Cheese Pastry, Cuban Sandwich and Tres Leches Latte. The guava cheese pastry was okay, nothing really special but was way too flakey and barely had filling. The empanadas were almost flavorless unless you added the sauces, and the crust (where it folds) was not edible, literally hard as a rock. The potato balls were solid, but these were huge and really lacked that flavor punch, unsure if it's the cold cheese that muted it all. I'm unsure if we just ordered the wrong things but overall, not our favorite experience. Hoping that there will be another chance if we ever crave the Cuban Sandwich again. read more

Been here a few times and each time I have enjoyed their food. This time, I ordered online the mix and match empanadas the night before to be picked up at 815am and was afraid it wasn't going to be done since they open at 8am. But it was bagged and ready once I got there! So grateful there was no wait. I love how they have vegan and vegetarian options as well which allowed my coworkers who don't eat meat a chance to try them too! The mix and match option is a great deal since you get 2 extra empanadas for purchasing a dozen! This was my first time ordering the Cuban sandwich and I have to say it's by far my favorite item. Food quality is a 3 and service from one particular employee was a 1. I ordered a burrito to share with my wife and had requested it to be cut in half. However, when the order came out the burrito was not cut. No biggie. I understand it's the weekend ands they're busy so I brought it back to the counter and asked if they could please cut it for me. Didn't think it was that big of a deal but nope. I was told by a slightly slimmer employee with tattoos on her arms to use the flimsy plastic knife they put out front to cut it myself. If the plastic knife works that well to cut a burrito I wouldn't have asked. We live locally and would have come back and support the business. Doesn't look like it's going to happen. read more

Potato balls better than Porto's! My girlfriend and I came here for the empanadas but left loving the OBRA potato balls. We got both the beef and chicken potato balls. The cheese pull from the potato balls was a pleasant surprise. Flavor was great. We recently came back from a trip to Miami where we had amazing Cuban food. So when choosing empanadas we got the Cuban and the most popular, the beef and potato. The empanadas were solid, my favorite was the beef and potatoes. The service was great. Friendly staff and quick service. Collectively I'm giving the entire experience a 4/5 stars. If I was strictly reviewing the potato balls I would give a 5/5 stars. read more

A Long Beach gem! Ropa vieja had great texture and is always a reliable Cuban staple. Personal favorite was the beef and potato especially if you're looking for a breakfast item that isn't too savory but gives you the exact kick you need. Coffee was good - opted for tres leches as that is the most popular and it was well rounded espresso not sweet which is a plus for me. I immediately informed the staff member who had helped me, expecting a simple and quick replacement. Instead, what followed was an awkward few minutes of the staff whispering and looking back and forth at me, seemingly debating whether they should replace a $4 cookie. There was no acknowledgment, no apology, just silence and hesitation. After standing there feeling like I was asking for a favor rather than basic customer service, I told them to forget it and left. I spent $14 in total -- Matcha latte, cookie, tax, and tip -- yet the lack of common sense and care over a simple replacement made the whole experience feel dismissive and frustrating. For a bakery that should value its customers, this situation really missed the mark. I'm writing this review to not only highlight the poor service but also warn future customers to be cautious with the packaging -- the bags tear easily. I would recommend the Red Velet Cookie so delicious. I got a bunch of different flavors of the empanadas. I personally recommend the curry, veggie, and beef. I didn't really enjoyed the Cuban empanada as much. I must say the signature sauces that were accompanied by these empanadas and potatoes balls I got was very delicious. I really enjoyed the sauces. I also ordered the chicken potatoes and beef potatoes balls. Good flavors but the potatoes balls were filled with a lot of potatoes and very small portions of meat cheese ratio. Cuban sandwich has good flavors but need more sauces in the sandwich. A bit small for the price $11.99. Everything was on a pricier end. Obra kadabra! Had no issues with parking on a weekend but there is limited seating. There's seats along the wall of the bakery and a few tables outside. I tried the chicken, curry chicken and beef empanadas and the potato balls. Potato balls is bigger than the other famous Cuban bakery, BUT there is soo much potato and it's also very cheesy. Empanadas were pale and a bit doughy with barely enough filling. My favorite was the beef empanada though (it had some potatoes in it too). My buddy had brought me here for the potato balls cus I told em I go to Porto's . So I had ordered the beef and the chicken with a sausage empanada and bbq pork , came with multiple dipping sauces . They also hooked it up with complimentary apple fritter type bread super fresh and delicious . Definitely a 10/10 in my books!!! Service: the staff are very nice, friendly and knowledgeable of their food and drinks. Ambiance: simple bakery ambiance yet cute. The music playing is definitely on point. Fooood: where to begin?!?! First time here and I'm definitely coming back I don't need to drive to ports because this spot can replace some of its food. The potato ball is definitely 10/10, much bigger than Porto's and tastes a slight better too. The empanadas is a must!!! Their potato balls is the sole reason I wanted to visit because they're huge, meat filled and even have mozzarella. I got the beef and it had a good ratio of potato and the outer crust was perfectly crispy. The dipping sauces were also good but I favored the chimichurri than the sweetened thousand like mayo. Although that sauce was delicious too. They also have a chicken potato ball. I also got a chicken and beef empanada and they were equally delicious. The guava cheese pastry was mid though. I got the cuban sandwich, potato ball, beef & potato empanada, and the peach & dulce de leche turnover. it came out to about $26 for these 4 items and i waited about 15 minutes. cuban sandwich: smaller than i thought and for the price, but tastes good and the oven roasted pork was amazing. wish it came with plantain chips at least potato ball: it was ok, tasted like ground chilli and cheese beef empanada: very delicious and addicting, however i cannot justify to spend about $4.50 per empanada when they are very tiny peach & dulce de leche turnover: only ordered bc the guava cheese was sold out. 5/5 tasted amazing overall, nice spot to try in the area. not sure if id come here again as portos exists. read more

I ordered the breakfast burrito it was yummy and the two sauce that came with it. My only complaint was that I ordered a chocolate chip cookie and instead I got a chocolate fudge crème cookie and had to go back inside. I told the lady my order was incorrect and she said yeah we ran out is chocolate fudge ok? I opted for the fudge cookie (since it felt like I had no choice she packed it in my bag), but when I bit into it, it hurt my teeth very tough texture and way over-baked. I couldn't finish it, so that went to waste. Also I went back to the counter to ask for a cup of ice water and the same worker glared at me saying "Anything else we can get for you!? In such a condescending tone and she didn't want to turn my way instead she wanted to keep working on the coffee machine. At that point I did not want to bring back the cookie I actually wish to have a refund. I lost my appetite with the poor customer service. It's unacceptable to spend $44 to be treated this way. I wish I had enjoyed my meal more. I wish I could say better things about this restaurant because I have been meaning to try it for quite a while. I've heard it compared to Porto's. It's definitely not that in anything other than the fact that they have a display case with food inside of it. I will just give you a quick rundown. We got a beef ball, a Cuban sandwich, a Cuban empanada, a ropa vieja empanada, choripan sandwich, and a chocolate chip cookie. That was $45 which seemed pricey to us. Both empanadas were pretty flavorless and dry. I usually get ropa vieja at every Cuban restaurant I go to. It's my go to for judging how authentic a Cuban restaurant is. This was probably one of the worst versions of that I've tried. I also did not care for the Cuban sandwich although I will say it was fairly unique. The beef ball wasn't bad, but it definitely wasn't like I've had other places. The flavor of the beef was very unique and the cheese was kind of a surprise. The chocolate chip cookie had the most potential, but it was just OK. The best thing for me was the choripan sandwich. It was really good. Best thing I've had out at a restaurant in a few weeks probably. That doesn't take away from all the other misses at the restaurant though. Visited 12/21/25 around 4:15pm I had seen OBRA on instagram promoted by food influencers, so thought hey this is a local spot I should check out. For years, I had visited a different place farther away and was glad that OBRA was much closer. Anyway, service was standard. The location is extremely small. No restroom for customers. During my time, two other customers came by and got crowded fast. I ordered 6 empanadas: 2 chicken, 2 ropa vieja, and one bbq chicken. Took 10 minutes to receive to go box. Inside was spicy mayo, and Chimichurri for each empanada. The empanadas were a disappointing. Dough was thick and flavor of fillings not spectacular. The "spicy mayo" is just mayo and small amount of chipotle pepper. The ratio of chipotle to mayo is off, I just tasted overwhelming mayo. The chimichurri was watery and no flavor, didn't taste fresh. Personally don't think empanadas should have strong dipping sauces, the empanadas alone should speak for themselves. I won't visit again, going to stick with the spot I visit. The empanadas were 10/10 did not disappoint at all and were so soft and crispy on the outside, with extremely tender and flavorful meat on the inside. We tried the chicken curry and the sausage and potato one. Chicken curry by far was my favorite. We also got the matcha latte which was great, not too sweet and super creamy. The sandwich was also really amazing and fully recommend. Employees were nice and working as fast as they could with a little bit of a line.
