Amazing mole! We saw good reviews of this restaurant and ate our dinners there tonight. We are so..glad we did. The owner Antonio served our dinners tonight, a lovely person. My husband had Spicy Chicken Mole; the mole sauce was profound. Amazing flavor. We have been visiting Mexico for the past decades, and he loves mole, has been eating dishes mole everywhere... This was one of the best that he has. I tried one of the Oaxaca staples, pork sausage and beans wrapped in corn masa and grilled. Delicious. The combination comes with a soup. Tonight's soup was meatballs with vegetables. We love Mexican soups too. This soup was flavorful and delicious. When we sat down at this restaurant, home made corn chips come with two kinds of salsas; both were homemade, deep and flavorful. Since the salsas were so..delicious, we both kept eating the chips.. we became quite full on the chips and salsas. Watch out! Their rice and beans were well made and delicious too! We truly wish that this restaurant is in our town. When we said that to Antonio, he said that many tourists who eat at his restaurant say the same thing. This is a gem. All the people working here are very friendly! Everyone working seems happy and genuine. They have a small but fresh salad bar. Prices are a little high for the amount of food. However, the fish tacos are really good. They are a little plain but fish is fresh and mango salsa is delicious. I was told this place had the best Mexican food in Eureka. I can't say for sure if that's true but it's for sure a good option if you want good Mexican food! Tried this place for the first time with a group of friends the other day. Appreciated the selection of beer. The spicy chicken mole enchiladas were absolutely fantastic... and actually spicy, which is always an excellent surprise in Humboldt. I didn't go for the salad bar, mostly because I was surprised by the option, but I heard from friends it was great. Everyone enjoyed the food. Service was friendly. Hope to be back soon! read more

I came in today with a party of 12. They couldn't accommodate a big enough table for us so we separated and sat in 3 different booths (totally fine)... we had just come back from the redwood forest and I was soooooo thirsty. I saw one of our groups being served right away and waited for another 5 minutes without anything but my placemat and fork in front of me... my husband decided to finally speak up and asked one of the two waiters for water... the waitress told us, we weren't her table so my husband tried flagging down the other waiter and he just ignored him. We had 2 small children with us so we decided to leave since they didn't care enough to even give us water after 10 min. I'm glad we did though...the other 2 parties told us that the food and experience only got worse once we left... Not sure how they got such great reviews...Maybe they treat home town ppl great here, but if you're a new face, be prepared to be ignored... read more

Took a chance after reading a yelp review, did not disappoint! Staff is incredibly friendly and helpful and the food was great, very fresh and large portions. The restaurant is very clean and cute, seems to be in a trendy neighborhood. The salsas weren't very spicy but crazy flavorful. The mild one was chunky and fresh and the spicy one was smokey and rich, along with homemade tortilla chips. If I lived here I would come at least once a week!! read more

Started off by being greeted by a very friendly host. Sat at my table and was brought two big servings of salsa which I love because I LOVE salsa. Not particularly hot, but there darker salsa had so much flavor. I ended up buying some just to bring home with me! I had the garlic shrimp tacos and a Dos Equis. Food came out quickly and tasted very fresh. The beans seemed like they could have been seasoned more but the mango salsa was beautiful. Simple as it should be. It is my favorite Mexican restaurant in humboldt, especially for authentic Mexican cuisine. The family who runs this place is the real deal. So friendly, comfortable, and consistent! Everything is good here. I've tried nearly everything on the menu. The prawns are amazing in everything. The mole is delicious. Portions are generous! One bite of Oaxaca's fish tacos and I was hooked enough to switch from Rita's. I'll still go to Rita's if I want my fish battered and deep-fried, but Oaxaca Grill doesn't deep-fry their's and it's fantastic. I don't know if it's marinated, but it's pan fried and very fresh-tasting with tons of flavor. I asked if they have deep-fried fish tacos and the lovely lady who put together my takeout order said they don't anymore because it's just not that healthy. I'm impressed! Everything else we've had is tasty, too--chile rellenos, chicken enchiladas, pork tamales, and beans and rice that are good enough to stand on their own. The beans are partly whole and partly mashed, and are delicious, and the rice is lightly flavored and perfectly cooked. I could make a meal of just their rice and beans plus the salad bar, which is also reason enough to go there. Crisp, fresh mixed greens, spinach, green and pinto beans, heirloom cherry tomatoes (!), cucumber two ways (plain and marinated in what tastes like a sour cream dressing), cheese, pasta, carrots, broccoli, black olives, red onions, mushrooms, cottage cheese, artichoke hearts ... you get the idea. Oh, and at least four dressings. They even carry O'Doul's Amber non-alcoholic beer--one of the few places in town that carry any non-alcoholic beer at all! My only wish is that they wouldn't use styrofoam for takeout, though I understand why they do and I don't have an alternative to suggest. Cardboard would get soggy immediately, and plastic is no more earth-friendly than styro, though plastic is the only one that is recyclable locally. Styro holds the heat in better, so if you don't live on the other side of town, your meal should still be hot when you get home. Service is excellent, the people are friendly and attentive, and the place is clean, brightly lit, with traditional Mexican background music that isn't obnoxiously loud. Saturday nights seem the busiest, though we've never had to wait. Give it a try! read more
