Stopped in mid-day for a quick bite to eat and a drink and was very happy with everything. Service was attentive and friendly. Greeted with chips & two different salsas. My margarita was huge!! The food is good. Very authentic. Service was good too, maybe because we were the only table there at the moment. Burritos are huge and can split between 2 people. They give you a basket of chips and 2 kinds of salsas when you sit down. The downside was, since it was our first time, we didn't know how much extra cost it was for certain things. A side of sour cream was almost $5 and although an alright amount, definitely not worth $5. The waiter didn't give us a heads up on the extra charge. Every time we come here it's always a very consistent experience, the food is delicious I always get the meat burrito and it's the best thing ever. The service is always great I wouldn't say that anyone's overtly friendly but I would say that they get the job done and they're really efficient. Chapala has always been a solid stop in Old Town for good drinks and great eats. Plenty of room with a second level of seating upstairs so it can handle those busy weekend dinner crowds. The margaritas are delicious you've been warned. The food is delicious as well. It's family run and has some items on the menu that not everyone in town has. I had the pork ribs and hibiscus margarita with Don Julio. She had the chillaquilles with scrambled eggs and a jalapeño margarita.. Everything was delish! One of the best Mexican restaurants in Humboldt. Authentic delicious Mexican food, great service, good atmosphere, and reasonable prices.

We come multiple times for takeout and the gentleman who handles the takeout is always extra . All the other staff is very nice. Just the one individual who has a problem with returning customer base. He seems to be offended when asking for extra salsa to go when always pay and tip on recurring bases. I recently returned from another superb visit to the Chapala Cafe. My family and I love eating here whenever we're all in town because we can always count on being served delicious, great quality food, and experiencing equally great service. This is my father's favorite Mexican restaurant for a good reason - and he doesn't even live in the area! The consistency with great food and service over the years makes this an easy 5/5 star rating for me. Everything I've even eaten on the menu, from combination plates to burritos has been amazing. I feel like I can explore the menu with confidence and know that I can never be disappointed. The margaritas are very tasty as well. I can vouch in particular for the peach margarita, which I enjoyed tonight. I'm a big fan of the restaurant's decor and architecture. The artwork and plants are perfectly situated around the restaurant and make one feel like they are dining on a cafe patio. The overall set-up is very picturesque and gives the restaurant a very chill, clean, and open ambiance. The servers are very kind and attentive to customers. Solid four stars. The atmosphere here is unique to me in an old town building with two levels. The art and set up of the restaurant feels authentically inspired and sets the tone for the food. The staff is always courteous and prompt when we come here and I haven't had a single complaint yet. Except cuidado! The plates and food can be PIPING hot... I think my first time eating here I burnt my mouth a few times because the food was so good I couldn't wait for it to cool. Pro tip: snag a margarita with dinner and you can sip on it while your food cools. Haha The food overall was just what I was looking for. GOOD Mexican food. Which for some reason it can be hard to find here in Humboldt other than on food trucks. But Chapala stepped up and they have some great selections of food all of which have the flavors that I was accustomed to growing up. Will definitely continue to come back. read more

I love this place. It has been family owned and operated for years. I am a local. This is one of my favorite go-to places for fresh authentic Mexican food. Portions are ample and it never disappoints. My late mom first introduced me to this place. We were regulars. Now it is just me left to carry on this fine tradition! I have brought many friends to Chapala. They survived the pandemic and they are still going strong. I have used DoorDash more than once when I couldn't break away. My guy and I eat at Chapalas probably once a week. The service is always prompt and attentive, and I crave their beans and rice. We love the chips and salsa. If you prefer a spicier salsa, you just have to ask for it. The food is not super traditional but it's delicious. Recently I celebrated my grad school graduation (May 2019) in this restaurant. My family and friends came over to enjoy the catering services on the second floor, it was divine! It was a Saturday evening and their restaurant had live music playing. I highly appreciate the sound and work of the Peruvian band Huallipacha! So to my surprise they were playing that evening! I recommend coming on a Friday and Saturday when they have live music playing. This place feel spacious with their high ceilings and murals painted on their walls! Overall the food was delicious, and they kept refilling us with more anytime it got low. The staff are friendly and tend to cater to your needs! The only downfall of catering was to make sure that they don't charge you for the alcohol. Came here for dinner last night. There was plenty of seating and waiter was very attentive. The atmosphere quickly took a turn. There was a very large group of people in the upstairs portion, apparently rented section for their Christmas party. Their noise was unbearable with loud cheers every couple of minutes. The roaring cheers never let up. I could not have a conversation with my friend and even resorted to removing my hearing aids! This was absolutely my worst experience! After a young waitor (who cleared my bowl) tried to argue about it and say it was plastic from the container they store the soup in (?!?) he told me I would recieve a discount on my meal to make up for it. When my bill was brought to the table by a different waitor, there was no discount. I called over the waitor who had taken our order, explained the situation and he agreed it needed to be addressed.
