Oasis is a little unassuming on the outside, but once you open the door you're greeted with the most familiar and delightful scents of Mediterranean spices. The faux archways and wall decor give the appearance of authenticity almost immediately. I ordered the Oasis platter for myself and my date. We chose the salad over the lentil soup because it was a particularly warm day. The salad was dressed with a Mediterranean vinaigrette of some sort that was quite nice. The pita croutons were done well. The hummus went well with the Pita although I wished the bread were warm. The platter itself was what really did it for me though. With a mountain of rice, chicken, ground meat, and beef cubes the platter was very satisfying to have set down in front of you. I don't know authentic Mediterranean food, so I don't know just how authentic Oasis is, but it sure good. I really enjoy this place. I absolutely LOVE their rice. It's even better if you mix some of their delicious garlic sauce in with it. While we're on that topic...the garlic sauce is amazing. I always ask for extra, and so far they've yet to charge me for it. As for their entrees, the chicken shwarma is my absolute favorite. It's tender and flavorful. And it's a HUGE serving. My husband I tried Oasis on a recommendation from a friend. We loved it! The service was extraordinary...always helpful, explained how each item was made and the particular ingredients. We had the dinner for two (with rice) - with one of us selecting the soup and the other the salad (which was huge, as others have stated). It was enough food for 3 and still would have leftovers; and for only $25. Everything was very tasty! So why a 4 and not a 5 - 1. Mediterranean being my absolute favorite type of cuisine, I should have known better then to build up expectations for a lunch buffet in Kentucky. Still, I was pretty underwhelmed. The highlights of the buffet were the salads/fresh greens and the hummus, which is pretty hard to mess up. Anything on the hot side was a pass. I tried their baked egg dish, the chicken (which was dry and served in the same sauce as the egg thing), okra, and orzo (they had no rice option, which I think is weird). Overall it was okay, nothing to really write home about. Maybe their a la carte menu is more interesting, and brings home more of the authentic Middle Eastern seasoning and spices I was missing. I went for dinner with my husband and was told we can't get coffee after 12, which is VERY strange because 10 minutes later a family DIRECTLY behind us ordered and the same waiter handed them the Arabic coffee and they were openly talking about how to coffee tasted. It also took forever for me to receive my food but not my husband. This was a VERY different experience than when I went with my best friend last month. Same waiter waited us then and he offered us both Arabic coffee after 12 (I know because we just left the Masjid which service starts at 1:30). The difference was I was wearing a hijab then and they were very welcoming. Without my hijab on today due to really unfortunate circumstances, I'm treated differently. This is not acceptable by any standards and I will not be going back. There are plenty of Mediterranean places around Lexington that are better than this. Nefertiti is one of them. read more

Boyfriend brought me here for Valentine's day! He is half Egyptian, and can appreciate an authentic Mediterranean meal. My first thought was hey, this place is small. Like-- super small. Cannot fault them tho, I'm sure the rent is sky high. We ordered the falafel, lamb sandwich and Mediterranean salad. The falafel was crisp on the outside warm inside and was great dipped in some tzatziki. The salad was freshly prepared and the vegetables were perfect. The lamb was tender and seasoned wonderfully. Oasis Restaurant: This place has one of the best buffets during lunch and the best way to try Mediterranean Food. Not a "fast food" place like Sahara in Beaumont but a traditional sit down resturant which happens to have a lunch buffet from 11am until 3pm. The food is always fresh and hot right up to the end of the buffet. You may order off of the menu anytime they are open. The price for the all you can eat buffet is $9.99 and you usually get 6 entrees, 8 cold foods including hummus, and 5 different salads all served with flat bread. The best wait staff they have is Peter from Bulgaria. He greets you by name and waits on you like a pro. Try their mint and clove iced tea and don't forget their homemade Baklava. This was my initiation into Med. food, and I'm hooked. I think the grilled chicken dishes are excellent here, the salds are nutrititous, and the rice is out-of-this-world. The male waiter with the short blond hair is very professional and accomodating. He knows the menu well and will make recommendations. The owner (the gentleman with glasses, I believe) is also great at refilling drinks. This is good ,healthy fare at extremely reasonable prices, and you feel like a king when your chicken and rice dish is brought to you on a silver platter. You will not find better rice in Lexington, unless you prefer the fluffy white rice they serve at Chinese restaurants. Anyone who knows me knows that I like independent restaurants. This is a true win in Lexington. Parking can be tight, especially at dinner, when crowds flock to the insipid pizzeria next door or Josie's, which is better.. They take all credit cards. Dinner will be about 13.00 per person without a drink. Now an update: as of late 2012, this place continues to have good service and food. The rice is out of this world, and the prices are still reasonable. I do like the buffet at lunch, but I think the food temperatures need to be checked as some items seemed warm(not hot) on last visit. Repeat customers are treated well here, and I think that makes good sense. The clientele is interesting, too. Oasis is by far my favorite restaurant in town. This is definitely the most authentic, and best tasting, Middle Eastern food you can find in Lexington or any surrounding areas. The staples of any Middle Eastern meal (hummus, lentil soup, falafel, etc.) are present and prepared to the highest standard. My favorite meal is the chicken shawarma pita-wich with a side of rice. Other favorites are the mixed shawarma and veggie platter. Portion sizes are massive; easily enough food for dinner and leftovers! The only downside is service; it can be hit or miss, depending on the server. The servers seem to be mostly family and college aged kids. The younger servers are usually friendly (albeit slightly awkward at times) but an older gentleman waited my table once and was a little rude and seemed annoyed that I was there. Maybe it's just me. We always get the Oasis platter for 2, as it gives you a great variety, and then there is always more than enough for lunch the next day. Oasis is a good Mediterranean restaurant if you want "fancy" Mediterranean. It's on par with most all other Mediterranean joints in this town. I think they all shop at the same Mediterranean restaurant food supplier. Oasis just fancies it up a bit, no styrofoam plates, plastic forks, you don't have to fish your pita bread out of a plastic bag, and there's less scowling. You have a server who serves you with real silverware and whatnot. This extra fancy costs a little more than those other places and that's fine. It's an experiential thing...if you can afford any experience beside the feeling of food being rammed down your gullet. To sum it up: Food is exactly the same as every other Mediterranean place in Lexington, but it's nicer. It costs a little more that the others. Went there Tuesday for quick bite and wanted something vegetarian as Lexington doesn't have too many choices for vege food.. Seated right away and it was pretty full already around 5.30 pm... Ordered falafel, Labneh with garlic and vegetarian lover.. It came with lentil soup and pita bread.. Soup was good but didn't like pita bread.. I really liked Labneh which is more like hung- yogurt with garlic and decided to eat hot falafel with this cold yogurt instead of tahini sauce and it was delicious.. I won't give ur their falafel really high marks but they were good.. Vege lover plate came with grapes leaves which I didn't like, falafel ok, hummus very good. Their vege entree states that it also includes mujadara and Moussaka which I had many times.. Majudara is lentils with rice and fried onions over it but it didn't have fried onion but was very good.. Not overpowering in taste but not bland either.. I didn't like Moussaka which was made with eggplant but I didn't like the sauce only me.. Hubby loved it.. Overall pretty good..decor is average and staff is friendly.. Will be back again!!! read more

Oasis is the best Mediterranean restaurant in Lexington. I always get the Oasis Platter when I'm there with guests because I love everything. Hummus is perfect -- not too heavy. Their falafel puts a lot of NYC spots to shame, and the kibbeh is succulent. I came here for the first time today and had a lovely experience. My friend and I both ordered the lunch buffet and it's a nice little spread of food including pita bread, salad, hummus, lentil soup, white rice, falafel, and various vegetable and meat dishes. My favorite was the falafel, and meat with potatoes and carrots with rice. The price was reasonable and Peter, our server, was very sweet and attentive. I told him I had never been there before and he gave us a complimentary slice of baklava. It was delicious. I assumed the food was Greek but was told it was more Lebanese. Either way, it was very good food, with a nice ambience, wonderful service and I will certainly be back. read more
