This place is absolutely delicious. We ordered the Greek Plate, and gyros pitas, and everything was so good. I am not a fan of falafel so I don't know how to rate that, but it was better with the yogurt sauce and chili sauce. The hummus and tabouleh on my Greek Plate were so flavorful and we devoured every bit of gyros and pita on our plates. The customer service can't be beat and don't forget to try the baklava. Oasis Cafe is a bit hidden from the main street of Lafayette, which is probably why I sadly haven't been here before. I ordered the lamb gyro and the meat was so flavorful and tender yet not overwhelming. I added hot sauce to my gyro and it added the perfect amount of spice. The portions are a good size partly because the cook packs the gyro with a lot of meat. The owner is really sweet, quick at making our order and super friendly. I've had this place bookmarked mentally, if not literally, for about a year since reading James H.'s review. Today Alan and I were heading for Swad, the Indian restaurant we like before visiting Tam, when we parked right near Oasis Cafe. After a quick discussion we decided to give it a try, leaving Alan w/ his Indian jones unsatisfied. The location isn't obvious. It's behind the parking lot which is behind the strip of stores and restaurants fronting Mt Diablo Boulevard that houses Swad, among other places. We walked into the empty restaurant and were greeted in friendly fashion. There are a smattering of tables inside and another several outside. It was sunny but cool and we opted for an outside table. Choosing lunch was harder than choosing where to sit because there are so many good sounding options. I decided on the Oasis Platter, which had a generous portion of gyro meat sliced off the vertical spit, triangles of warm pita, a bit of tzadziki and a Greek salad w/ mixed lettuces, cubes of mild feta, chopped tomatoes, sliced red onions and pitted kalamata olives dressed w/ a nicely balanced vinaigrette. At my request he added a scoop of hummus. Alan had a Gyro Platter which had the same meat, pita, tzadziki, hummus and rice. Alan also asked for a side of falafal, which our host misinterpreted to be a falafal wrap when Alan had literally meant just one falafal. He gave him several choices of sauce on it and he opted for traditional, which turns out to carry some heat. We didn't know that. Being spice wimps, I took one bite. Alan ate half the wrap and most of his platter. The gyro meat was succulent and beautifully seasoned. We made little open faced sandwiches w/ the tzadziki, hummus and meat on the pita triangles. They were delicious and very satisfying. The salad was very tasty. But the tzadziki and the hummus when eaten alone were surprisingly bland, the tzadziki lacking the piqancy of tart yogurt I'm used to and the hummus lacking lemon and garlic. Textures were good. The platters were $8.99 apiece and were a good value for lunch. I would return because I love gyros and there are few places in the area where I can find it as good as this. As we ate lunch another couple or two and a couple of unaccompanied women walked in so the place filled up a little. read more

Having a former Greek room mate - I am a gyros snob! These guys at Oasis are not only very personable, but they make a mean lamb and beef gyro! They also have a sexy red spicy sauce they use that is unlike anything I've ever had before. The owner told me it's a "secret" recipe he picked up when traveling in Asia. Great combo and the shwarma is very tasty as well! I love these little mom and pop places. So rare these days. GO - it's a must and support local family run business. Hands down BEST Mediterranean food in the area. BEST. I came to get the husband, famished and with an empty stomach and driving past Oasis, it nearly called my name. So the whole family got to taste the delicious delights that were bestowed upon us here. Long story short: We ordered some platters filled with falafel (which btw, has me jonesin' for some since), dolmas, fresh thinly sliced lamb (which my dogs even drooled a taste for later), sauces, and a garnish of kalamata olives. I savored every bite and wished for more after. My kids are sometimes picky and they loved the meat and pita bread. The owner is so gracious and was the only one there when we came in. He was fast, attentive, and genuinely the nicest person you'll meet. He asked us if were ok and even chopped up some fresh, hot pita to take home with our box of leftovers. Oasis is officially one of my favorite places to eat, even if it is tucked away in seclusion--Lafayette's best kept secret. read more

Oasis has some great food and some great drinks to choose from. The sandwiches are fantastic, the hummus is tasty, the wrapped grape leaves are incredible, their espresso drink's are well done... Over all everything you can get here is worth ordering. Recently they've gotten a spit for making Gyro's. and they're doing a great job at putting them together. Price wise, it would be nicer to pay a little less, but I think the quality and flavors are worth it. Everything is freshly made, and they don't settle for lesser quality, but keep in mind you'll be spending one or two more bucks then you'd think. Service. There's three fantastic people that run the shop. All of them are very friendly and courteous, and their charm alone will make you want to come back just to chat with them. The only downside is there's only ever one of them working there at a time except for on rare occasions. This means if there is more then one person ahead of you in line, it's going to take time to get some service. So if you are in a hurry to get your food and get moving, this may not always be the spot for you since they really do make everything to order, and they make it fresh. Last plus side, Lafayette is a dog town and this shop is dog friendly. Lots of the customers will bring their dogs and eat outside. They have a water bowl available for your pup which is always nice. The only real downside to this place, is their hours are not always reliable. They are always open for lunch tho, and that is something you can take to the bank. The reason for this is due to their location. They are right at the beginning of the Bart path behind the main Town Center shopping strip, so a lot of people pass it by, or don't know its there. Because of this, they're always trying to make themselves available to when the majority of their customers come thru. Recently speaking with the owner, it sound like they'll be open for Lunch and Dinner, roughly 10am thru 7pm. If you know what you want and live near by, I'd suggest calling in your order ahead of time. It'll be ready by the time you get there. That's what I just did today! read more

This is not a fine dinning restaurant. It's a great little diner. This is a small place with great food. I had the Gyro Platter. It came with hummus, Greek salad, 3 sauces, a pile of meat and pita bread. All were Delicious. My wife had a shwarma. It was loaded with meat and flavor. We were both offered additional bread and sauces, but were too full to take them up on their offer. We will return soon. read more

Omg, this place is good. I went in, and asked "what is on the Greek platter?" He told me it's for three people - Greek salad, hummus, pita, two falafel, and a huge pile of lamb kebab - for less than $10. We ordered that for two of us, and couldn't even finish it! Found this little place on yelp and thought we would give it a try. Ordered a chicken shewarma plate and a gyro plate to go. The chicken was cooked to order, the pita was amazing and the hummus was creamy and tangy...the way we like it. The place was run completely bY one man...a very nice man who washed his hands after handling my money (always appreciate cleanliness!). I have no idea how this place gets such high ratings. After giving this place a few tries over the years, today was the last straw. I ordered the chicken shawarma bowl for takeout. Got home to discover the chicken was obviously processed frozen product (complete with fake grill marks) WITH NO SHAWARMA SEASONING on it. It was completely drowned in a tahini like sauce. Very little flavor. Terrible, unappetizing, and definitely not shawarma. My only guess at the high ratings is that there are a lot of people who have never had real Mediterranean food before eating here. Literally the worst Mediterranean food I've tasted.
