We always like to scope out the best coffee spots ahead of time. Little Owl did not disappoint! First, it's always difficult to find ceremonial grade Matcha wherever you go. Most of the time it's Matcha mixed with a bunch of other stuff and at best it's culinary grade. The Matcha here was vibrant in color, smooth and slightly nutty. I elected to sweeten it with simple syrup and had it Americano. My husband opted for a vanilla latte with oat milk and while we've stopped at several places so far, this is the best latte we've had on our roadtrip. They make all of their syrups in house and the coffee was smooth and not bitter. The cafe is small and quaint. It does open up into a larger building with additional seating. Customer service was on point, and we even joked about the different types of Matcha and how some places use a ton of fillers and sugar.

But the most surprising thing the pre-added "service charge" of 15% which the front register girl tried to hide on the screen when she turned it around to me for a signature. She initially showed me the screen without it, but then said she forgot something and added that to the tab. I think transparency with these forced gratuities/tips/charges would be great to prevent these surprise encounters, especially with to-go orders.
