Duck and Duck: duck breast and duck confit, cilantro tamale waffle, pablano parsnip purée, etc. DEE-licious!

Another wonderful evening dining at Oakleys Bistro, our fav Indy restaurant. Once again, the welcome at the front door, the impeccable service, the casual yet elegant ambiance, and the exquisitely prepared innovative and fresh cuisine (prepared in an open kitchen, which we love)...DELIGHTFUL! Chef Oakley is extraordinarily talented in his kitchen! Tonight we shared the Prime Rib Dumplings (pictured) and the Beet-Salad-unlike-any-other. Hubby had his Duck on Duck again (pictured) because he says it's the best duck he's ever eaten. I enjoyed the Indiana Chicken Schnitzel (pictured) very much, I'm including a photo of the menu so you can read for yourself the uniquely delicious details of these dishes. Oakleys Bistro, for us, remains a not to be missed destination every time we are in Indy!

It's been 15 years since my last review at Oakley's Bistro. What can I say? Oakley's has been on my mind even after I moved back to Chicago. I took my parents here to celebrate my dad's birthday. The service was great, and the food was just as delicious as I remembered. The beauty of Oakley's is that you can't get tired of it since they change their menu seasonally and use fresh ingredients. We started our night with Shrimp Corn Dogs, Deviled Eggs, and the Lobster Waffle. All were so delicious and everyone was trying to get a bite more. We ordered the halibut, salmon, and mushroom paella as the mains. The mushroom paella was soo beautifully presented and it was soo delicious. Both halibut and salmon were a perfect portion and had various flavors in your mouth. Every bite was a little surprise. We, also, got the french onion soup and creme brulee. The French onion soup is not your typical one; it is a little sweeter and less cheese, but still delicious. The creme brulee was the best we've ever had, and it's one of my mom's favorite desserts. If you haven't tried Oakley's yet, you should find a day to enjoy the deliciousness of Chef Oakley.

Did not have reservations so we Were seated at bar. I think I liked that better because I watched Chef do his thing. The food is so eloquenty articulated with just the right additions and garnishes like the beet dish with dried strawberries or the Brussels sprouts with fried lo mein noodles. And the dessert - warm toffee pudding with carrot cake ice cream was out of this world good. The service was over the top even at the bar. Loved our bartender. She was spectacular. Not sure why I haven't been here more. Have been a fan of Chef Oakley for along time. He's also very generous - he supports Second Helpings Corks and Forks. This is an elevated experience but I thought the pricing was justified given the quality, service and deliciousness!

Brother Oakley, your vibes are off. Something about this place. When I walk in (been here twice) it just feels weird. Full of olds and in a strip mall might be the root of the weirdness. I came here recently when it was busy. Server was cool. Drinks took a while to arrive but food was pretty quick. Shrimp corndogs and deviled eggs for appetizers which were stellar. I was torn between 4 entree items and was told that the meatloaf was a favorite. Could hardly believe that but I do like meatloaf so gave it a try. I'm used to a looser, greasier meatloaf. This was like two slabs of Spam that had been out of the can a little too long. Not sure what people like about it. Also, it was served with an uncut head (pause) of broccoli which was hardly cooked. Very strange dish but I guess it's popular amongst the previously mentioned olds...? Unfortunately, my wife loves this place so I'm sure I'll be back :/

Oh wow! The food choices are so unique and delicious! We were looking for interesting food choices and that is why we chose Oakleys Bistro. I made reservations through the site a few hours before we arrived on a Friday night. It looked like almost every table was occupied and there were people really enjoying their company and the atmosphere. This restaurant is located in a better looking strip mall, but the outside and especially the inside give the vibe of fine dining. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable of the food and attentive. Oh the food tasted amazing! We loved the unique flavors of the Frios Gras and Jam.. or the bread dipped in a beef tallow candle! Loved the Indiana pork Schnitzel with the extra special sauce. It definitely gave the vibes of an upscale pork tenderloin that we Hoosiers love! I also enjoyed my mushroom Paella! The depth of flavors were amazing! I want to make this a place I take all my friends!

The lobster waffle appetizer. So delicious.

Oakleys keeps getting better and better. This is truly a hidden gem on the north side of town. Ambiance is warm and inviting. Food is always well prepared, on the inventive side without being too 'out there' and you leave feeling satisfied. Vegetarians will delight at the many options they always have on the menu. Recently had a phenomenal mushroom paella that was full of a wide variety of vegetables. Heavenly. Don't skip the small plates - always something fun on that menu. Usually we are too full for dessert but when we have dessert here it is also excellent.

Oakley's Bistro offers farm to table and tasting experiences. I went here for a work meeting, and the chef came out and explained each dish. The service was impeccable in that regard. It was nice but not incredibly fancy inside. Inviting, is how I would describe it. Enjoyed all my dishes. The first time Ive had a multiple-course meal like this. Will take my wife here next time.

You have a glass (OK, two glasses) of a nice Barbera d'Asti, and savor a couple of nibbly things. Everything is sparkly and right in the world on this beautiful Wednesday afternoon. All this and more can be yours when you visit Wine & Rind. At least, all that and more was mine when I visited. This is my ideal restaurant: wine focused, with a succinct menu of beautifully presented and thoughtfully created food. Plus, it's located right off the Monon Trail in Midtown Carmel, so it's a prime space for people-watching. This little restaurant is a great place to get a charcuterie platter, but I was feeling like bruschetta when I visited, so I ordered the Bruschetta Sampler, which is plenty for two people. It comes out like artwork on a wooden platter: five beautiful bruschetta toasts consisting of traditional tomato; fig and bleu cheese; capocollo and a herbed ricotta; blueberry and lemon ricotta with sugar sprinkled on top; and strawberry and cannoli cream with balsamic. The last one (strawberry and balsamic with cannoli cream) was surprising and might have been my favorite, because it tasted like cheesecake. I love being surprised! I also ordered the caprese salad, which was a wonderfully tasty platter of tomato, mozzarella, basil, pesto, olive oil, balsamic glaze and Maldon salt. It was so fresh and light. Another surprise: It was sprinkled with sprouts! I would have never thought to add that to a caprese, but it 100% worked. The service here is top-notch. The server was super nice and attentive, but also disappeared and only reappeared when necessary. Wine & Rind is a Carmel gem! I know I'll be back soon to try more of the menu, and drink more of the wine.

This place is all wine, all the time. I'm not even sure they offer any other adult beverage! As a consummate wine fiend, I didn't even consider any other kind of drink, because I don't need any other adult beverage other than wine, you feel me? I love Solely's commitment to wine. They have wine to drink, and also, the walls are lined with bottles of wine. Just don't touch them! If you see an interesting bottle, don't take it off the shelf. Just tell the people at the counter about the bottle you're interested in, and they will help you. I wasn't in the market for a full bottle of wine during my visits -- just a glass. Solely Wine specializes in "unique, low-intervention wines from passionate small producers," according to their website. So whether you buy a bottle or get a glass, you know you're drinking a thoughtfully chosen wine. I had a glass of the Grenache Syrah blend and the Cab Franc, mostly because I rarely see these kinds of wines offered in the wild. They were both delicious! My only comment is that the pour is very small. The Cab Franc especially felt like it was maybe 4 ounces! I have weighed my wine at home, so I know roughly what a typical wine pour (5 ounces) looks like, and this felt like slightly less. Nevertheless, I thoroughly enjoyed my wine! And the ambiance is killer. During the day, Solely is a cool place to grab a glass of wine and hang out. It's super close to the Monon Trail, too, so you can just bop over and get a cheeky drink. During the nighttime, the lights are lowered and the ambiance is very romantic and intimate. A great place for a solo drink, and a great place for a romantic date night.

I also love that they're connected to an art gallery, it really adds to the overall experience. I came here for a Yelp event and had an amazing time. Inside, the space is peaceful and inviting, with comfortable seating, games to play, and lots of natural light and live plants that create such a relaxing vibe. The owner was incredibly helpful. I wanted to try a wine flight, and she guided me through selecting options based on my preferences. The wine flight comes with four glasses and is about $24, which felt a little on the expensive side. They accept cards and also have a rewards system (which I definitely signed up for). There's a wide variety of wines, from dry to sweet, so there's something for everyone. I really enjoyed my flight. There was one red (Gamay) that wasn't my favorite since I tend to prefer sweet to semi-sweet wines, but I've been trying to expand my palate, which is why I love the option of flights. It also said it paired well with pizza, so maybe if I was eating that, it would be better. I enjoyed browsing their wine selection for purchase. I really admire how everything is well organized and easy to explore. They sell Stellar pretzels which I've had before and are so good, but solely had cinnamon dolce flavor that I never had before, neither had Kiara, so she bought some and I got to try the them (thank you Kiara!), they tasted just like a churro, so delicious, like a dessert! I can definitely see myself coming back here with friends or even just to enjoy the space and unwind. Such a great vibe overall.

He's a semifinalist for the Best Chef: Great Lakes (IL, IN, MI, OH) category. What an honor! I'm curious to see if he gets the medal, but even if not, hopefully this recognition will draw people to visit Lone Pine, because people really need to visit. I don't know how Lone Pine would describe its menu, but I would call it elevated comfort food. One of the things my table ordered was chicken piccata. When was the last time you saw chicken piccata on a menu?! It was delicious, and served with mashed potatoes and lettuce leaves that added a nice, fresh crunch to each bite. We also got the roasted salmon, which was served with fingerling potatoes in a pesto sauce, with arugula on the side. This, too, was delicious and rich, yet fresh. I ordered the short ribs, which came with polenta and caramelized pearl onions. The short ribs were just fatty enough, and the sauce that they were surrounded by was unctuous and wonderful to eat with the polenta. I guess I should have started this review by writing about our first course! We got the French onion soup, bloody Mary wedge salad and the Caesar salad. The Caesar salad at Lone Pine is probably the best Caesar salad that I've eaten in Carmel, and maybe in all of the Indianapolis area. The thing that Lone Pine does differently and spectacularly is that they use breadcrumbs and not croutons. That makes all the difference! Granted, it does look a bit like a pile of pencil shavings on a plate, but sometimes the dowdiest foods are the best-tasting foods. The result is a satisfyingly salty, crunchy, creamy, crispy salad that I couldn't stop eating. I know I will be back to Lone Pine for the Caesar salad. We ended our meal by sharing two desserts: the apple pie panna cotta and the Lone Pine chocolate cake. Both desserts were amazing, but the cake won us all over because it looked deceptively heavy, but it was light and airy, and came with slightly sweet whipped cream. The service at Lone Pine is exceptional. They pay attention to detail here, and all of the little things are taken care of. Our server gave us just enough time between courses. Our water was refilled unobtrusively. We didn't get asked whether we've dined there before (because who cares?) and the menu wasn't over-explained (thank goodness, because I can indeed read). One thing we also noticed that we appreciated: The music was just loud enough to hear it, but not loud enough to notice it too much! It's these little things that come together to make a great dining experience.

My first experience at the restaurant was decent, so I figured we would give it another shot. I recall my first meal being a bone-in pork chop that was overly salted. I'll make my review brief. The restaurant was not too busy but our service was fairly slow, two separate drink orders that were requested never made it to the table, the environment was noisy/music too loud, etc. I decided to go with something very basic for my food order. My thought was, "I'll see how good they are at doing something simple." I got the black and burger cooked to the chef's preferred temperature (medium). My burger came out dry/crumbly/crispy/well done. Yikes. The server did offer to provide a complimentary drink while he asked the chef to prepare another burger (a nice gesture). However, the second burger came out raw (see photo). I'm a medium rare steak guy but this was inedible. The fries were very good. I'm not typically someone who is overly critical of restaurants but for the amount of money you're paying for these meals, the food and service should be excellent. My two experiences were fair and poor. This is very unfortunate because I've visited the sister restaurants (Beholder and Milktooth) many times and have had nothing but great experiences at both. Probably the last time I'll go.

We had a issue while there and he was able to step in and problem solve with me and come up with a solution that really won us over. We had a moment where it was feeling a bit "why did we come here" but his customer service exceeded expectation. That's good management. (He's the gentleman in the video below.) Let's get the negative out the way 1st. The first waitress asked if we wanted anything to drink. I told her we hadn't received menus. She came back sat them down and walked away. We never saw her again. A new waitress came and she seemed pleasant enough. Once we were all seated she began to take our orders. She made a point to say she needed to write it all down or she was get it mixed up. She then did not write anything down. Our food came out extremely slow but that wasn't a huge deal because we all were mingling. A lot of her team had to step in and deliver our food, give drinks, check on us etc. She was pretty non existent. Two of the ladies never received food. This was after we had been there for 2 hours and everyone else had received their items. At the end when we asked for our check they were all mixed up and confused. The waitress then blamed us for adding things and moving around. We never moved once and she only came around the one time when she originally took our orders. We never got a chance to add things. (it was quite comical that she tried to say that) I ended up asking for manager because she seemed overwhelmed and a bit bias about our group. Assuming that we wouldn't want one check and splitting them because she figured we would want it that way and then blaming us because she did it when we never asked for split. There rule is parties over 8 have to have 1 bill and we never asked for an exception. There was just her assumption that a group of black women wouldn't want to do that. (I digress) There were a few more things but I will end it there. That was the big negative. Now the positive!!! Ambiance 10/10 - great views, great music, great location, umbrellas on roof were great although a but wobbly and scary. Also, they come around with complimentary sunglasses while dining. I thought this was a nice and luxurious touch! Food 8/10 - most food received was delicious Service 9/10 - everyone except for our server was great! Everyone who pitched in to help was awesome! Ended up tipping a different server who basically helped us the whole time. Bless his heart because I know he was super busy. As stated above management handle the situation well. I would definitely go back! I try to give people a chance. I think our server may have been overwhelmed and had a past experience that left her bias against our group but hopefully she can grow and get better. Her actions don't reflect the restaurant as a whole! Go and enjoy the vibes and views!
