Not a bad place, but do they still have the full size tables at the bar where barstools should be....you know what many places were doing during covid? It they do, single people have a hard time sitting by themselves when the tables are taking all of the spaces at the bar. My wife remembers this place from her childhood, so we decided to go and see how it's doing today... ...and it's doing quite well, given how full the parking lot was and the almost 45-minute wait time for dinner. The wait wasn't so bad, given the greeter kept us up to date on progress and the company we had with us. Once we were sat, service was very apologetic for our wait and attentive to our order. Around the table we had an eclectic choice of appetizers from a massive pretzel to fried potato chips - both were very good. For the meals we enjoyed choices from ravioli to honey glazed chicken and pork, to a build-your-own-burger. No complaints around the table. They had a decent selection of craft brew, plenty of locale fare to pick from - a plus in my book. For desserts we enjoyed sharing their coconut cake and banana cream pies - delectably sweet and good. Service was friendly and functional, though a bit slow at times. I will admit they were slammed this evening but the entire place was not open, there were areas of the locale, inside, that were closed. It also looked like they had a pretty good amount of wait staff, yet, the waits for refills were surprisingly longer than you would expect. Stopped for lunch before going tubing at 7Springs. We've been there in the past when it was a full functioning restaurant with buffet. So sad to see the majority of the building was closed. The little gift shop area was gone. Only a bar with about 15-20 tables exist. The pleasant surprise was that the Oakhurst also makes killer bar food!!! Their sandwiches were amazing. The meat wasn't sliced thin - it was thick and absolutely fantastic!!! The staff was really nice and it wasn't too crowded. Can't wait for the pandemic to be over so the buffet can come back - but honestly they might want to consider changing things up. So glad we stopped. It was worth it!!! read more

I have to qualify the following by saying I am reviewing the bar only. I haven't been to the buffet in many many years and don't plan to go any time soon. That being said, the bar is awesome!! Service is fast and friendly. And the food is great. It's burgers and sandwiches and chicken fingers...nothing fancy, but well prepared and GOOD! And great beer selection!! I've had the fish fry the last two times I was there....and it was excellent. A huge piece. Tasty beer batter. Great Cole slaw. I've stolen the kids chicken fingers - yum. The Oakhurst "Tea" Room has been around for over 65 years. There was no "Tea" involved in this little Tea Room when gentlemen gathered together to have liquor served from tea pots and into "tea" cups, during prohibition. They serve a smorgasbord lunch, a Sunday smorgasbord brunch and a Friday night seafood smorgasbord. I was never very impressed with the food but my mother always thought it was wonderful and this is where she choose to go on special occasions. Everything is made from scratch, nothing is ever frozen. They have a huge dessert bar with hand-dipped ice cream.. The 1940's and 1950's Oakhurst featured many big bands and attractions from New York City and was often referred to as 'The Night Spot" for the surrounding areas. In 1933 they started serving "all you can eat chicken and waffle dinners" for 50 cents and is now is its fourth generation of family operation. read more

Oakhurst is now known as a "Grille & Events Center." It's no longer labeled a Tea Room (though it had not been an actual tea room for quite some time). Whatever the name, I'm going to call it "subpar." Oakhurst went through a renovation over the winter. During that, management eliminated the gift shop and built a bar. The new bar area has about a dozen beers on tap, three huge televisions, and a couple of arcade games. I can see it being a watering hole for the locals (though it was desolate during my most recent visit), but it wont attract much buisness from the out-of-towners up the mountain at Seven Springs. I don't have much else positive to say. The buffet is a huge disappointment; it is no longer the smorgasbord that it once was. The best dish is the buffalo chicken lasagna, and I would also recommend their desserts. But beyond that, the food is bland, boring, and uninspired. The roast beef's toughness approaches that of leather, the salad bar's lettuce is wilted, and the soups are just a giant congealed mess in a pot. Side note: the "hot" sausage is very spicy. On my most recent visit, there was a period of rain during a thunderstorm, and the dining room flooded. Not an auspicious sign for the "new" Oakhurst. read more

Grew up in Somerset County dined here many times with old owners. Came from Fl and had dinner here I didn't eat much because food was cold. We always stir the food at buffets to be sure it's hot, didn't work here. I told the one waitress about the cold food ,she seemed to be very appreciative. My husband asked for a glass of wine as it was happy hour the waitress said she know anything about it, strange All ice cream had chocolate in, why no vanilla or strawberry, not everyone can eat chocolate. Waitress staff hung around in the back a lot at one time no one was on the floor. A man with one leg and on crutches wanted a piece of ham , no one was there so he started to cut it himself. A good manager would have taken something off our bill when he heard us complain, no not this manager.the next trip to Somerset no Oakhurst for us. read more

We stopped here for brunch on our way to laurel hill on Sunday. I used to come here often when I was younger and camped nearby. Although the place is quite different now, (no general store inside anymore.), the food is still great. They have lots of meatless options which was a plus for my vegetarian self. On the other hand, my significant other thought it was fantastic that they had freshly carved ham and roast. My daughters favorite thing was the dessert bar! They had every cake and pie imaginable. The price was a dollar or two more than other nearby places at 13.99 per person. I think mainly because the price does not include drinks. Overall, its worth a stop! My wife and I went to the Sunday brunch for our first anniversary june 9,2019. The food was lukewarm at best. Nothing I tried was hot. Our waitress dropped off our drinks and did not return to see if we needed more coffee. Other than quickly grapping dirty plates and leaving no one asked us if we needed anything. I found the Oakhurst to be a great end to annual girls camping weekend. Don't let the words 'tea room' fool you. There was nothing fussy about it so rolling up in your camping/hiking clothes are ok. There were plenty of choices on the smorgasbord. Wonderful haluski, carved meats and a full salad bar. The chicken salad was yummy but the best with out a doubt was the deep friend French toast! Went here recently as someone had recommended it.... Evidently under the old owners it was a great place to eat.... They said they were under new ownership now..... Tried it, but was not impressed... To the management staff, I wanted to let you know of the horrible experience I had at your restaurant yesterday Sunday 2/23/2020. As you can tell by the fact that I waited until the next day, that it is still bothering me. First off we arrived around 1 p.m. there was a short wait, nothing unusual. The young lady that was hosting was nice and sat us at our table. It went quickly downhill from there. I awaited the waitress while the other three went up to the buffet. It took nearly 5 minutes before she finally came around to even bother taking a drink order. My folks and wife came back and I went up and got a plate (might add I am handicap so I don't move very fast). Anyway, I was back to my table and began eating noting that we still had not received drinks. My family were completely done with their first plates and I was over halfway done before she finally reappeared with drinks. The dining plates were very cold which made all the food cold within a couple of minutes of being on the plates. It seemed there was very little attention to detail on ensuring the food on the buffet was hot and not been sitting around too long to cause it to get dry or way overcooked. This was by far the worst the food has been since I have been back in the area which this was our 4th trip to your establishment since October. We finished eating and only once when I had to nearly stand to flag down our waitress were we even able to get a refill. She then disappeared and I could not get any others attention without making a scene so I proceeded to pay while my folks and wife went ahead on out. I told the young lady at the register how bad things were and she apologized and said she would take 20% off of my tab, which calmed me down a bit. I then got home yesterday afternoon and looked at my actual receipt. She blatantly had lied to me and charged me full price. If it wouldn't have been an hour trek back to your place I would have went and really made a scene. She knew damn well she had lied to me. My friends and I rented a cabin in Somerset Pennsylvania for the weekend. We would always pass the Oakhurst advertisement on a billboard. Considering that it was country food and we were in the country side, my friends and I decided to give it a try. Considering it was a buffet, it was a plus for us. Upon entering the premises, you will see a mini gift shop with overpriced hallmark items, which can be found cheaper at a hallmark store or even online. As we entered the dining area, where we were seated by a friendly hostess, I saw the room to be empty (with the exception of two couples). As we were on our way to be seated, I took a glimpse of the buffet. I was not impressed nor did I want to eat anything from the buffet. The dessert table looked pathetic and the cake looked rather old and crusty. I decided to order from the menu. The menu did not have much of a variety. As a matter of fact, whatever the buffet had, the menu had with the prices higher than the buffet. Considering how disappointed I was with the buffet, I just ordered off the menu. I order the chicken topped over the challah bread (think french toast bread) with the gravy on the side (I am not a huge fan with gravy smothered over my food). My sides consisted of stuffing and apple sauce. The apple sauce was not sweetened or warm. It was cold without flavor. They could have at least added Cinnamon. The highlight of the whole dish was the stuffing. Considering that I am picky with my stuffing, this was quite good. The chicken was not tender and it did not have any taste to it. The bread was VERY soft and doughy. I would dip the bread and chicken into the gravy, and the gravy was mediocre. This place is a bit over priced for the quality of food they serve. Steer clear and don't be fooled by their billboard or advertisement. We were suckered in as well and regret ever eating there. Also, don't expect this place to be like a tea room. They did not have a variety of tea or any tea... I don't think tea was even on the menu! If you have a choice between the buffet or the menu, I would say both are crappy and just go with the buffet, more variety. Though, you are being taken for a fool when it comes to dessert time, which is a great disappointment. If I could give this place no stars or a negative rating, I would. read more

Stopped by here after seeing a sign after leaving living treasures. Sounded really awesome! FYI - this is a buffet place, not a tea house. The buffet was about 13$ per person and the menu listed online sounded super yummy. The best part was the ham and roast beef. The veggie Mac sounded really great but looked and tasted like it was sitting around for days. The best part of the buffet was the dessert and salad bar, the main buffet items lacked a certain flavor. The gift shop is certainly one of the stars of this place and the service was on point. This place is ACCESSIBLE! Including an accessible restroom, and the ramp outside is a very nice one. And the dining area is very spacious. I would give it another chance if I happen to be in the area again but it wouldn't be my first choice. read more

We had a family gathering (20 of us) today at Oakhurst Tea Room at lunch. There was plenty of food and a number of meat selections. There was ham, chicken (2 kinds), sausage, and beef stroganoff. There were two soups, salad, and 3 or 4 breads. Some of the selections were tastier than others, but I think that is typical with buffet style restaurants. Looked nice on the outside, but not impressed by the inside. There are two areas, the bar and the dining room. There is a buffet in the dining room. I passed and ordered off the menu - mushroom ravioli with a garlic cream sauce. The raviolis were freezer burned and the sauce was not great. Absolutely a fantastic place to eat! The food is top notch, and is always prepared correctly. Whether you choose from the menu, or dig into the smorgasbord, everything is delicious. All the choices are made from the best ingredients, and utilize as much local plunder as possible! The smorgasbord, so called as homage to the areas Amish and Mennonite roots, is not anything close to your average, run-o'-the-mill buffet offerings. It is laid out with so much great food, you will have to come back for multiple meals to ever say your tried it all. But don't worry. After many delightful meals, we were married here five years ago, I was quite nervous as a few of my guests were from NYC and quite the food snobs. It could not have been more perfect, The owners were gracious, and allowed us to turn the Spangler Room into our dream wedding, that everyone raved about. But not as much as they raved about the food and service, Even the New Yorkers loved the food, especially the fresh salmon. I am a foodie, and so is my husband, we take friends to the Oakhurst and they love the food. Not to mention how charming the place is. I am writing this because I am stunned about some of the reviews here! They have to be fake. We have never had a bad meal here, and five years later, my hard to please guests from NYC are still raving about my wedding, and praising the Oakhurst! read more
