I enjoyed my dining experience. The best part was how great they take care of you on the way in & out. I loved the hostess. The food was great too. I was told by the waiter staff that they change their menu daily! I enjoyed my entree and dessert very much in addition to the ambience. The fireplaces throughout made it so cozy. And the dim lighting made the atmosphere very relaxing. They don't seem to make any accommodations to the menu either, just fyi incase you have picky eaters!

A beautiful place for a fancy/romantic dinner. The ambiance in a big rustic wooden house is so romantic and lovely. The food is delicious but the portions are small. I ordered their Soup de jour, Caesar salad, trout, and chocolate crème brûlée. All very tasty. The reasons behind the missing star: It took too long to give us our bills without any explanation, we asked for two separate checks and the waitress agreed but at the end told us they can only divide the price by half! Therefore, their service although fast and friendly while serving food, did not deserve more than three stars. Also it was a little bit overpriced. We enjoyed our visit but I cannot recommend this place without hesitation.

Just had an excellent dinner at Helen's with my wife and 10 yo son. Not sure why there are so many negative reviews. Our food was excellent, from the crab bisque to the filets and the sea bass. We finished the night with 3 snickerdoodle crème brûlées. Everything was delicious and our server Kat was wonderful, super friendly. I feel bad that she had to climb the stairs. The setting is beautiful in the woods and the inside looks like an old log cabin. We took a shuttle from the hotel but did walk back after dinner. The meal is not cheap, but it was excellent and a great experience.

    Citrus Brined Chicken

Heard so many great things about Helen's - our experience was total opposite! Friends ordered (3) drinks took forever. Everyone in our party ordered Citrus Brined Chicken - before I order it, I asked the waitress what exactly do you get she said a breast and a leg - but when the dinners came out I was the only one who got both legs. I asked the waitress and her response was you're not guaranteed to get that - you get whatever they have in the kitchen?!?! What?!? This is supposed to be an upscale restaurant! Not so much! Very unprofessional! Also, what was supposed to be the citrus brined chicken was bbq chicken! Also, was jazz night - which was more like the piano man! Lol If I could leave 0 * I would, but have a 1 * because I had to. Would we visit again? Not likely.

Always a nice dinner! Very warm, cozy and quiet, definitely a place you could spend a few hours in enjoying an excellent meal with nice cocktails or wine! Sometimes they have someone playing the piano which adds a nice touch to the overall experience. It's not attached to the hotel so prepare to walk outside or drive. Reservations are required, we have had trouble before with leaving voicemails and not hearing back. Just have to keep calling periodically until you get somebody.

    Scallops and shrimp

This restaurant is supposed to be a fine-dining establishment, but the only trace of "fine-dining" was the unreasonable price! The food was average, the drinks were just ok, and the service was slow and, at times, not-so-friendly. It took them 20 minutes to bring the check, and while we asked for split checks for two families, they split in the middle, which we could do ourselves! I had the crab bisque, which was good, and the shrimp and scallops that had a strange sauce resembling ketchup! And this meal was 43 dollars, which was not worth it unless it tasted great (and it didn't!). I don't recommend the place unless you want to impress someone by the amount you are paying for a pretty average dinner!

We have visited Helen's on multiple occasions while at Seven Springs for ski trips, and every single meal we've had has been absolutely phenomenal. They have a 3 course or 6 course option available. We did a 3 course meal, and added dessert on, and it was seriously so good! Definitely book your reservation ahead of time!

    Amazing creme brûlée!

Honestly, after visiting this restaurant, I am now disturbed at the 3.5 star rating. This restaurant exceeded me & my boyfriends expectations 100 fold. I'm originally from the area and used to very sub-par food options. This is comparable to restaurants visited in Baltimore, DC, Chicago and Atlanta. We are both huge foodies and appreciate great food, ambiance & creative dishes. The menu was creative, local farm to table vibe with beautiful pairings. The ambiance is equally just as amazing! We sat outside adjust the spring, it's just beyond what you'd ever get in any city!! Sit back k relax you'll love it! Our waiter, Christopher was phenomenal. He was much like us - food & wine experienced. Geat wine & cocktail knowledge and understood exactly what we wanted. We started with an extra dry martini with blue cheese stuff olives = extra dirty. Good choice! Starter - prawns with a mushroom polenta. Mushroom was understated but all combined great flavor. Flake salt would've been a nice touch. Prawns were cooked great. Extremely generous serving! Next course was the fin & feather salad. The dressing with candied pecans was so creative! Loved the light flavor and was great with all reds! The peppery finish with the fruit was beautiful. Our main courses were beyond filling! My boyfriend had the tenderloin with smashed potatoes & asparagus. I had the leg of lamb with butternut squash... The tenderloin (impeccably cooked with a tender & buttery texture.) outshone my lamb but, both were outstanding. The Lamb had a game like taste, which I have no complaints about! The ONLY thing I would change would be a "meatier" butternut squash without the sugary finish. It displayed well but the very slight portion of the butternut squash was a bit disappointing BUT the lamb was huge! The meat & potatoes were definitely a perfect meal with the tenderloin though. Hearty, thick, and good! Out came a super sweet gesture of the creme brûlée! Chocolate, blueberry & traditional with a local fav "peanut butter melt-away." I was thrilled as this is my favorite dessert and a local favorite of the melt-away. Here's the thing, this is a wonderful spot. I've had food all over and this menu/service/vibe is 100% worth every penny. With a new chef & a great staff, this is highly recommended!

    Charcuterie

We ate at Helen's during our weekend stay at Seven Springs resort in August. It was a wonderful dining experience. Sometimes the wines an establishment carries can tip you off on the experience you will have. Once I saw Helen's had a White Bordeaux on their menu I was excited. Not many restaurants know how good a White Bordeaux is. To me, having this on your menu says ... yep, we know what we are doing. First, our server appears with this steamy fresh baked bread. I could tell it was homemade. She then explained that they have a baker who makes this and its a 40 year old recipe. She loves baking and so bakes these breads for them every day. Even though I don't eat gluten, I had to try the bread. It was amazing. (photo below) We started off with the charcuterie board.(photo below) Manchego, Cheddar and an olive infused cheese all amazing. The honey served with the cheese had vanilla beans shaved into it which made it very savory. The greens are watercress which is grown right behind the building. In fact, everything at Helen's is sourced locally or grown on site. I ordered the grouper. Cooked to perfection and I really enjoyed the sweetness the creamed corn added. Its not often you find shishito peppers outside of a japanese restaurant. As these are one of my favorite peppers, I couldn't pass up this dish. I would order again. My niece ordered the filet and it turned out perfect for her. She really enjoyed it. I am not a dessert person (I'd rather have another glass of wine) unless there is something interesting on the dessert menu I've not seen before. Helen's didn't disappoint. A molten LEMON lava cake? What? Really really good. I have a weakness for lemon desserts though. (see photo) I've eaten at many places in the world and consider myself a foodie. I enjoy trying new taste experiences and Helen's did not disappoint. Oh, and dining outside is absolutely beautiful.

You're probably here for some type of special occasion, because it is certainly pricey. I decided to splurge for a friend's birthday for brunch, which runs $95 per person and includes a mimosa. The same friend has visited a number of Frank Lloyd Wright houses with me, from this PA region to New York to Illinois, so it felt like the perfect place. I made a reservation on OpenTable and indicated that we had one vegetarian (myself). The restaurant followed up to make sure there were no other notes they needed to know, and also to see if I wanted to add anything on. You can add things like rose petals on the table and a single rose to the celebratory person, wine options, or an individual-ish celebration cake. I decided to add the celebration cake, which costs $20 and serves two people. There is a main restaurant, but the special experience this place has certainly become known for are the individual dining pods, which are out in the trees but well screened from any weather. There are heaters and fans available in your pod. It is a truly lovely private dining experience. You can just slightly hear conversations of other diners in nearby pods if you listen very hard, and there is piano music playing on speaker, which is instrumental version of popular songs like Britney Spears, Shakira etc. We found this funny but simultaneously enjoyed it. They had nice little touches like a Happy Birthday sign on the wall and an embossed happy birthday note for the birthday person to keep, and brought out chilled plates for a dessert involving frozen custard. It was nice attention to detail that reminded you this is a special dining experience. Service is attentive but unobtrusive and wants to make sure you are happy with your experience. Onto the food. The mimosas were already on our table when we arrived. Our server indicated they were sending out a complimentary amuse-bouche from the chef, which was an individual vegetable stuffed mushroom. It was delicious and a nice starting note. Then came the appetizer, a smoked burrata with pita, arugula, grape tomatoes and an edible orchid. Everything is so beautifully presented here, and just delicious. The entrées were crazy. There were two portions each of stuff French toast, potatoes and frittata. Those were all vegetarian and shareable. On a separate board came enough meat for two people to share as well, salmon, pork, sausage and carrots. Since that tray was not for me they also brought me a vegetarian bowl including veggies, chickpeas and quinoa. It was a lot of food and we ended up taking a nice amount of leftovers home from this part of the meal. Everything was wonderfully prepared, with the stuffed French toast probably being my favorite bite. Our server said she would be bringing dessert which I assumed was the celebration cake. But no, there was a French pastry each, presented with some fruit. They have a nice cocktail and cocktail menu and we elected to add an espresso mocktini each with this course. Those were on point and I've missed espresso martinis so much since I've largely given up drinking. After all of this came the celebration cake, which either came entirely or just the frozen custard from Tropical Bungalow, a local business. The Tahitian vanilla flavor was just delightful and the frozen custard was a wonderful texture. It was truly such a feast. We ate every bit of the desserts. One thing I appreciated here is that often when a place is known for the experience, the food is beautifully presented but not always plentiful. That is far from the case here, you are not going home hungry. My total bill came to $252, which included the two $95 brunches, the $20 celebration cake and two $14 mocktails. Adding a tip, I was a little over $300, which is a lot but it is a special occasion. We heard folks talking about staying overnight and looked up more information, and found that you can tour the four homes on the property here, two designed by Wright and two by his apprentice. In reviewing the tours I noted that there are package options, with one offering a tour of three of the houses and lunch at Tree Tops for a total of $75 per person (!). This is an incredible value and I think I would take this option next time, as the houses would definitely be worth touring as well. I look forward to my next visit here.

However, since I was touring a few Frank Lloyd Wright houses, I had not eaten since my early morning continental breakfast at the Comfort Inn in Connellsville. Mindlessly following the Google Maps directions, I arrived in a town called Indian Head and didn't have any expectations about what I'd find in this family-friendly roadside diner. Without hesitation, I ordered the $13.99 Grilled Chicken Salad. I was quite impressed with what arrived. There were huge pieces of grilled chicken breast, tender and moist, with cucumber, lettuce, cherry tomatoes, onions, beets, shredded cheddar, and a pickled egg with ranch dressing on the side (Photo 9). Sounds basic, I know, but it was hearty, fresh, and genuinely satisfying. Midway through my salad, a plate of fries arrived (Photo 10). I wasn't expecting it, but the server apologized for the delay. I only noticed later that the fries were mentioned in the menu. I certainly didn't mind because they were hot, tasty, and not at all greasy. Even though I was getting full and kinda anxious to get going, I was rather hypnotized by the refrigerator of freshly made pies. I just couldn't help myself and ordered a $4.29 slice of Banana Meringue Pie (Photo 8).
