The Oak is a local, tavern-style bar that offers customers great prices and oddly enough, delicious food! I shared a 10-wing basket and Mac-n-cheese bites with a friend and they were excellent! We bought several drinks as we were celebrating a friend's birthday, dinner and a few buckets of beer and our bill was $50. You can't beat that!! Seriously, the wings were incredible! It was my first time at the Oak Tavern, and it was just fine. Maybe because it was a Sunday and I was writing, and they have Wi-Fi. The good...they have a great dozen or so beers on tap and happy hour lasts from 11am-7pm. The bar area is clean and attractive. The bartenders were cute, smart, interesting, and attentive. There are two separate outdoor areas...one along Madison Road, with tables, and a covered back patio with more tables, TVs, and heaters. The bad...the floor looks horrible, and replacing it would bump it up a star from me. Also, the restrooms are small. I guess that's to be expected in an old building, though. They were clean, at least, but the urinal doesn't flush. And it can only accommodate one person, so I'd hate to see it when the place gets packed. I would go back again to work, though. The atmosphere was great...started to get loud and frat-like as I left, but hey, it's a bar. read more

The BEST wings in town! Their food overall is really good - your typical bar food, but their wings knock it our of the park! I live in the area so I come here fairly often for a night out. The bartenders are usually really good about making sure to get to people on a first come, first serve basis and give very fast service! I've had chicken wings at many different places around Cincinnati, and am very glad that my favorite ones are right here in Oakley at the Oak Tavern. Most places just fry up a wing and toss it in sauce, and those can be pretty good just like that. Oak tavern goes an extra step - they smoke the wings before they grill or fry them and this smoke flavor puts them over the top as my personal favorite The sweet potato fries and the macaroni and cheese bites are also very good. I'm going to begin this review with what most would consider to be a controversial statement: Oak Tavern has the best wings in Cincinnati (and yes I've had Wild Mike's, Frickers, etc). The Wings: They are served dry, that's right, no sauce. They are not breaded and deep fried, but instead they are perfectly seasoned, slow smoked and grilled. This cooking technique employed by the master chefs at Oak Tavern results in the most tender, juicy, and flavor packed wings in town. The Sauce: Since the wings are served dry they are served with a sauce caddy leaving patrons to decide the type and quantity of sauce applied to the wings. There is great variety with three types of BBQ sauces, a teriyaki sauce, a standard hot sauce, and a honey mustard based sauce. You will also be provided with unlimited ranch/blue cheese at no additional charge. Other: The napkin situation is superb with traditional napkins as well as wet wipes provided. The service is excellent. You will be reloaded with a bucket of beers before you even need to ask. Prices are very reasonable and there is always a good draft beer selection. The servers are all friendly and skilled at their craft. Disclaimer: Do not come to The Oak for wings on a Friday or Saturday night as this also doubles as a bar for young professionals in the Oakley/Hyde Park area as well as cougars on the prowl for some young bucks. I like the oak, been going for years but the service SUCKS! Take for example Thursday night I ordered wings,which are really good from my waitress who never came back. I saw her smoking, drinking and hanging out heck some guy I guess her boyfriend got his food in like 15 minutes but I could not even get her attention. An hour and half later still no wings, I saw her leave for the night. I never got my wings but They where on my bill. Keep in mind it was a Thursday night and not super crowed. I would like to say it's first time I've had bad service there but that would be a lie. It's hard to tell who the servers are because they don't have uniforms I've had severs siting next to me drinking and eating while there taking my order. We checked out the Oak late on a Friday night. By the time that we arrived there (around 1:30AM), the little bar was almost empty. Alt Rock was blasting out of the electric juke box so loudly I could hardly hear my friends above it. We grabbed seats at the bar and ordered drinks. My short vodka cran was a little too stiff for my taste; I had to wait for the ice to melt before I could enjoy it. I guess that was a good thing, though, as I got a pleasant buzz for my $3. Draft beers are $1.50, bottles are $2.25. We got a round of Red Snappers (Crown, Peach Schnapps, and Cranberry) for 4 bucks a piece. The Oak is tiny, 25x30 feet at the absolute most, but a small stage sat in one corner of the bar advertising live music on Saturday nights. Chalkboards with "April Birthdays" and "May Birthdays" hang above the bar; speaking to the neighborhood feel of this establishment. The bartender we had was friendly and talkative and he made our drinks as fast as we could order them. Our group (mostly Xavier students or grads/fans) struck up a friendly banter with the bar manager, who insisted that our UC's basketball team was better than the Musketeer's program (right, and who made the elite eight, again?). He jokingly yelled "last call for Xavier fans" at 2AM, a full fifteen minutes before the actual last call siren. The Oak does carry-out until they close at 2:30AM so if you're desperate for a six pack in the early morning hours, drop by. Parking in Oakley is usually a problem but if you get to this bar after normal business hours you'll find plenty of room in the Fresh Market lot across the street. read more

I used to go to Oak Tavern weekly and last night, I was really craving their chicken wings! I ordered 25 wings (take out) for me and a friend and not only were there very few flats, the chicken was dry and burnt. I've never had bad food from Oak Tavern, but it seems like they gave me the worst of their chicken wings because it was a takeout order. It's unfortunate that I told my friend, they had the best chicken I've ever eaten and our dinner ended up being a major disappointment. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would I am a 29 yr old mother During the oakley pup crawl (a very busy Saturday) i politely asked all the female staff for a private 3 prong outlet in order to express my breast milk via my pump. I was met with resistance. I was told I'd have to find an outlet myself and the only one I could find, that worked, was under the jukebox. I had even attempted to pump by the port o potties, in a more private corner, but my adapter would not fit that outlet. The female staff still refused to provide me a private 3 prong outlet. They told me I was not allowed in back to use their private 3 prong outlet because it was against policy. I pumped my milk, sitting on the ground, under the jukebox as the female employees walked by me without ANY COMPASSION. There I sat under the jukebox under complete display. Tears streaming down my face. Humiliated. I was at their mercy because I had to have electricity to pump. I needed to pump. If one understands the physiology of lactation, one understands that one must empty the breasts of milk just as one must empty the bladder of urine or the colon of stool. These women had no respect for this need. It felt as though they were angry with me for even asking for their help. The chaos of the pup crawl did not allow me to try a different place of business in order to pump because I was with friends, all of which had their dogs, and we all still had to pay our tabs, etc. Anyhow, I couldn't think of a better option at the time and at this point it was more about the principle. I couldn't believe they were treating me as though I expected them to cater to a fun hobby of mine, no I did not want to pump, I had to. Never have I experienced such a lack of compassion. I am a nurse. I worked in a bar for 7 years. I have an understanding of the business. I do not have an understanding for the lack of understanding that i experienced this day. read more

I've gone to Oak Tavern three times. The first time, we waited forever to be seen by a server to get our drink and food orders. After that, it took forever to get drinks refilled. The second time we went, we sat at a table and were ignored by every server in the restaurant. We left without ever being acknowledged. Because we had a Restaurant.com coupon, we wanted to give Oak Tavern another chance. Again, we were never acknowledged, even though the table directly next to us was being helped by a server. The bar wasn't even that busy. Why have servers when anything you want, you have to go to the bartender for. This time, we also left without being served. "The Oak," or "Oak Tav" as I like to call it, is better than your average dive bar. The food is actually surprisingly decent for what it is. The wings are touted as being the best in the city, and while I haven't had wings at enough places to judge, they are significantly better than BW3s. They aren't fried or doused in sauce. They actually grill them and serve them "dry." As for the drinks, ask for Greg the bartender to make you a marg. He claims they're better than Bakersfield. Excellent place to watch a Browns game in Cincinnati! Get there early as seats fill up quick. The wings are excellent and beer selection is on point with plenty of local brews and craft beers. A friend suggested a group of us meet up here one Saturday night, and my immediate thought was "isn't that place mainly good for after-work happy hours?" However, as we were celebrating this friend's graduation, I did not complain. Turns out my hunch was correct. I have been to the Oak for a decent happy hour on the patio in the hot summer months, and it is slightly possible I might do so again. For that reason alone will I give this place two stars instead of one. However, I will never again come here on a Saturday night. Maybe it was this particular Saturday night, or maybe I've magically become old, but I was sooooooooo not feeling the scene (mostly drunken people who seemed like they wished they were still in college). One of my first choices to go to in Oakley. Wings are amazing and the nachos are absolutely delicious! Always have wonderful service and a friendly staff. I wish there were more specials throughout the week but that doesn't keep me away. The beer selection is decent. It would be nice if they had some more stouts or porters on draft, I usually only see Guinness. Patio is awesome! We walk my dog down quite often and she always get a water bowl. We were there yesterday between 6:30 and 8:00pm as part of our Sunday fun day. First off the music was way too loud, probably to cover up the sound of the incredibly drunk regulars that were screeching and cheering one another on for the simple act of drinking shots. The next thing that wasn't right and an obvious health code violation was there were two dogs in the bar. One was a cute as a bug lil puppy that the two girls had up on one of the tables where people eat. The other was a pug that the girl (a very drunk regular) had on a leash and it was tripping up the staff as they tried to serve customers. Again this is a health code violation. Then there was a shouting match between one of the regulars and three people off the street. I believe they were also regulars because they called the guy who didn't leave Mike. THEN another regular decided he wanted to fight Mike and they had a confrontation that lasted 25 minutes and involved no less than 6 other people all of whom were involved in shouting, posturing, and pushing. The altercation was at the bar and spilled over into the table area such that the ladies in our party were jostled on at least one occasion. This was allowed to go one for 15 minutes before the "manager" (tall bearded guy in blue shorts) came over and attempted to have "Mike" leave but he wouldn't leave. We paid our tab and left because of this incident. It was still going on when we left. Our server was great and navigated the sea of drunken regulars and made apologies for the screeching drunk women and overly loud music. She was attentive and kind and made a huge tip despite the bad environment. The wings are the best I've ever had the other food was good to great and it's a shame that the 5 of us won't be back to your establishment. read more

Came here a few times- as everyone says Wings are delish! Their club is excellent, great wheat bread etc. Food is a must, dog friendly patio. I suggest come for lunch, it seems at night it is a young/ college crowd (They were making jello shots one time I came in for lunch and had flyers for a 90s theme dance party) But during day, family friendly and great food. It is a little run down (beat up from the night before etc), but food makes up for it. I have had great service as well. A few weeks ago- we were the first people to arrive for lunch, at least on the patio- then more people arrived- there was a glitch in the system and our food got lost 2 times. It took a Long time, but the servers were kind, bought us round... then we waited and waited- other tables were getting food- so we told them to forget the order we understand, but needed to leave. The order came out and they packed it for us- apologized- it was fine- we understand, they comped us our meal. Also, he explained the error and not pull something out of his.... Thank you. We, paid for a drink so we were able to tip. They were still attentive through all this, so I'm not going to fault them and say they ignored us etc.. Friendly staff, great food- We ordered 20 wings for carryout on 6/6/15 for the Blackhawks Game- they were packed great and were delish! We live 5-10 min away- so worked out great. Went here for dinner because I kept reading great things about the wings. The wings are in fact awesome and the Carolina gold sauce is the best! The bar staff was really quick and attentive, constantly making sure our drinks were full and clearing any empties off the table. I was also impressed with how quickly the food came out.
