Goddess chicken sandwich with cabbage slaw
    Matthew R.

We had another great early lunch at Oak & Front. It was a perfect 70 degrees or so and sunny with expansive views of the Missouri River from the top patio. The server was polite and prompt, as usual. The goddess chicken salad sandwich was honestly amazing. The chicken pieces were large and generous, and the sauce was so flavorful. The brioche bun was also quite good, with very green spinach. The side apple cabbage slaw was very fresh, but a little bland, and I feel it could have had a slightly more bold flavor (either more vinegar or spice, depending on the desired direction). We will continue to enjoy and appreciate this little slice of Washington.

The Vibe: Elevated casual with a little bit of quirky artistic flair. The spacious second story patio offers scenic river views and has a mix of shade and sun. We had the very best riverview table- absolutely stunning, and the historically inspired mural on the adjacent building adds to the ambiance. We came for an early dinner anniversary date, and there were a few little kids there, but as the evening wore on, it became more of an adult crowd. I think you could feel comfortable wearing jeans here, but most men opted for chino shorts and polos or button down shorts, and there were several women in sundresses or nicer blouses and shorts. The Food: The hostess, who was likely the manager or owner, explained when seating is that the majority of the food is made in-house, and the rest they try to source locally, which is great. They have an incredibly extensive wine list, but we're craft beer snobs and luckily they had many offerings from local brewers, so opted for a few brews from 4 Hands. For our appetizer we went with the pimento cheese dip platter. The pimento cheese and the pickles were really good! It was supposed to come with naan, but it was more like blackened pita. For dinner my husband ordered the burrito special we saw on their social media because it looked epic in the pictures, but unfortunately what he got was an extremely dry burrito with no sauces, and some broken Krunchers type chips. Our server did bring queso and salsa verde when he complained. The queso was flavorless, but the sala verde was quite nice. He would've sent the dish back, but it had already taken so long to get out food that we were overdue to pick up our child. My entree, on the other hand, was extremely delicious! I got the seafood ravioli with chipotle cream sauce. It tasted handmade with love. The ravioli were tender and the filling lacked any off-putting fishiness I find so often in local seafood dishes. The chipotle cream sauce was very well-balanced- had just the right amount of spice. The accompanying salad with green goddess dressing and crisp leaves was a nice foil to the creamy pasta. The Service: We made online reservations weeks before we dined and requested a nice riverview table to celebrate our belated anniversary. We arrived a bit early, but the wonderful woman at the host stand, I assume she is probably the manager or owner, guided us to our reserved table at the very front of the patio, overlooking the river. It made us feel so special. She took her time explaining the history of Oak and Front, and how they made and sourced their food. She then went over their extensive wine and cocktail menu, and apologized that they didn't have much of a craft beer selection- but they actually do have plenty of local quality craft beer options in bottles and cans, so we clapped our hands! Our server was very friendly and very attentive at the beginning, but as the night wore on (we were there for nearly two and a half hours, as scratch food takes time), she was consumed by a large party and we struggled to get her attention for drink refills, etc. My husband ended up having to go into the bar to get another drink. She did apologize and explain that the large party was overwhelming. My husband and I are restaurant industry vets, so we understood. The Upshot: Overall we had a great time in a beautiful place, and although we don't live close, our family does and they're regulars, so we'll most likely be back again.

We've made this a regular stopping point when we're in town. Their wine list and service are fantastic. We walked in 30 minutes until closing and our server pulled gelato for us, even though the kitchen was closed. Fantastic Bee's Knees

The prosciutto flatbread was unlike anything I've ever had before--and amazing. Next table got the margarita flatbread. Also saw a cheese board that was gorgeous. Tough to decide which to get! Beet salad was super yummy. My bf got a whiskey. He said the selection was really good. I loved my Cali rosé. We sat on the patio and watched the river roll by. Good band playing. Oh, and the cheesecake was to die for!!! Adding to our "favorite places" list.

I don't know why they have such low stars in reviews because I thought it was pretty good. With that being said I didn't get wine, I was feeling cocktails that day so I got my good ol old fashioned, which was fine. Got a huge charcuterie board to share, couple of flat breads and a sandwich. I would love to come back here again and try their wine as well. Small space but nice and cozy. They have patio outside and live music playing on Saturdays

What a perfect spot for my fellow WineO's! The vibe here is incredible! Super comfortable, huge wine selection, amazing food and staff!!

It's the kind of place you instantly know you'll want to return to. This was our first time here and we were go glad we made the little trip down to Bourbon, MO! We ordered the bacon and egg panini, and it was cooked perfectly. Whatever homemade seasoned butter they use deserves special recognition--it added so much flavor and made an already great sandwich even better. Of course, the dessert case was impossible to ignore. Everything looked incredible, and choosing was no easy task. We finally settled on a pecan brownie and a sea-salt chocolate chip gooey butter cake slice. Both were fantastic, but the gooey butter cake completely stole the show. Hands-down, it was the absolute best gooey butter cake I have ever had--and I've tried many from plenty of bakers over the years. This single slice may have changed my outlook on life. They've set the bar so high that I honestly don't know how anyone else could top it. Warmed up just as the owner suggested, it was melt-in-your-mouth perfection with a tender, flaky crust and incredible flavor. Absolutely phenomenal. We will definitely be back again--and you should go too!

She did an excelling job telling us about their specials. It was obvious not only were they passionate about the quality of their ingredients, but so much love and thoughtfulness went into every food item and beverage. The coffee is roasted on site every Wednesday and is delicious (and refills were free for dine-in customers...waitresses were coming asking if you'd like a top off regularly). My husband had the Cuban panini with a cup of chicken noodle soup (amazing) and I had the Three Blind Mice panini "dilly dilly style" with a cup of their curried squash soup (also, all amazing). We weren't planning on getting a dessert, but after everything else was fantastic, and you see the desserts in the display counter...you just have to! We split a piece of their Reese's Peanut Butter Triple Chocolate cake...served warm with a side of homemade whipped cream. Let's just say, I'll be dreaming about that cake for the rest of my life! But above the delicious homemade food, desserts, and coffee was the heart of the cafe. This is a place you come and sit and make new friends. The seating is set up for you to stay a while and share a table with another smiling face and have conversations--face to face. I don't think I saw a single person alone scrolling on their phones or on their laptop. We met a lovely local gentleman named Dennis who came and sad with us. He was so kind and told us so much local history. We left feeling refreshed and cared for. The quote on the back of the waitresses' shirts is one from the great Dolly Parton, "If you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours." And let me tell you, everyone we met there lives up to Ms. Parton's sentiment. Oh, and I must say the decor is so warm, cozy, and just downright cute! Thank you so much to everyone at Bourbon Cafe and Coffee Saloon. You fed our bellies and our spirits. I hope our paths cross again soon.
