Sadly, as of March 14, 2025, the cafe was closed with a sign on the door saying they're going through a management change. Hopefully they will reopen soon under new management!

We decided to look for a place to stop and eat brunch on the way to Meramec Caverns, which is only about 15 minutes away from St. Clair. We coudn't have been happier with the Lewis Cafe. Lewis Cafe has been in business in quaint little downtown St. Clair since 1938, and one could see why. Breakfast menu was terrific, with several specialties. They use homemade pork sausage, which I had in the gravy on my order. I ordered the Scamble, which was a full order of biscuits and gravy covered with their delicious sausage gravy and topped by scrambled eggs and cheese, along with a side of crisphy hash browns. It was DELICIOUS! Others at our table had the French Toast, hotcakes and omelets. Feedback on all were terrific. My daughter ordered three hotcakes, with bacon and scrambled eggs on the side. The hotcakes were huge ... I mean, the size of the plate. I wish our waitress would have explained how large they were because she could only eat about half. I helped her with about a quarter of the order and we both agreed that they were just average in taste. Certainly filling, but not exactly fluffy. Service was terrific and the ambiance is exactly what you would expect in a small town ... kind of like a step back to the 1980s.

A low key kind of place for a good breakfast. I ordered the Scramble and it was GOOD! Coffee was tasty too. Service was good and the prices are reasonable. Would definitely stop back in here again if we're in the neighborhood...

It used to be my favorite place to go as a kid, but since the management has changed the place has gone a little downhill.

Bourbon Café and Coffee Saloon is a charming little local café with an inviting, homey atmosphere…read morethat makes you feel welcome the moment you walk in. It's the kind of place you instantly know you'll want to return to. This was our first time here and we were go glad we made the little trip down to Bourbon, MO! We ordered the bacon and egg panini, and it was cooked perfectly. Whatever homemade seasoned butter they use deserves special recognition--it added so much flavor and made an already great sandwich even better. Of course, the dessert case was impossible to ignore. Everything looked incredible, and choosing was no easy task. We finally settled on a pecan brownie and a sea-salt chocolate chip gooey butter cake slice. Both were fantastic, but the gooey butter cake completely stole the show. Hands-down, it was the absolute best gooey butter cake I have ever had--and I've tried many from plenty of bakers over the years. This single slice may have changed my outlook on life. They've set the bar so high that I honestly don't know how anyone else could top it. Warmed up just as the owner suggested, it was melt-in-your-mouth perfection with a tender, flaky crust and incredible flavor. Absolutely phenomenal. We will definitely be back again--and you should go too!
