We had zero idea that the KT Caboose had been taken over and was open for business, but man, we were very pleasantly surprised. Not only is it on brand, being a caboose on the former rail line, it's like it was truly made for cyclists needing a nice pit stop. Shady umbrellas, trail views, and nice restrooms make this a total win. We got some ice cream and French press coffee, two of my favorite things in the world. It was wonderful, and I want to emphasize that what I am about to say is not a typo: it was *UNDER* priced. Yes, you read that right. In an era where grocery bills seem to add +$30 every week, and my old Amazon staples have all doubled, this place was actually underpriced. I don't remember exactly but an ice cream sundae with fresh fruit, several cups of coffee, and a big ice cream waffle cone were well under ten bucks. Johnny, feel free to bump them up a bit because we want you to make enough and to stay open for many years, otherwise we'll leave continue to just leave some extra as a tip for you next time in. There aren't a ton of places on the Katy since it's so rural and spread out, but with spots like Meriweather Cafe back west in Rocheport, and this spot, they really shine bright and make an impact. The coffee: This place has really good coffee! I normally get the iced vanilla latte with soy milk. I prefer the coffee here over the local competitors, and its way better then Starbucks or Panera. The atmosphere: The atmosphere is pretty good, I really like the hard woods and the music is always enjoyable. I never really know what's playing, but its always a soothing sound. The lighting is good and my favorite spot is at the bar against the window! This place is really clean to, even if there is a rush, I've never seen this place looking rough. These baristas care and you can tell. The Staff: Everyone here is friendly, and respectful, truly a joy to order coffee here. I will be surprised if you don't see them smiling as they take your order. This place is rarely cram packed, it's a blessing and a curse, I love that I have enough space to really get comfortable, but I know that they deserve a lot more business then they get. I love the combo of fries and cheese, but the queso from 54th, was delicious. The prime rib dip sandwich i had was also very tasty. It was on some ciabatta style bread. You could tell it was actually a prime rib that was shaved and not just claiming to be something its not. My sandwich was delicious. Will check back if we are in the area again.
