    Spaghetti with meatballs. Cooked perfectly

An authentic take on Italian food. I loved this meal and so did our friends. Please come here with an empty stomach. Beware: they will charge you for little things like water, bread, olives, etc. The good: - fresh, authentic food - perfectly cooked - diverse selection - reasonably priced wine selection - friendly service - free WiFi - dessert/espresso after is a must - an authentic Italian ambiance The bad - be prepared to spend more than 100 pounds like ant good Italian place - the bread didn't taste as fresh as the rest of th email food All in all, I'd love to go Back!

Lovely neighborhood gem and perfect for a warm Italian dish on a cold, rainy England night. We came by for dinner on a Wednesday night and it was packed beyond belief! We took this as a good sign and made a reservation for the next night. The general manager remembered us from the night before and game us a warm welcome. We started off with bread and olives, followed by mussels and the caprese salad. For dinner, we both had the penne arrabiata which was cooked to perfection! Some reviews touch on the decor - honestly it didn't offend us at all and I found it to be a warm, inviting homely atmosphere. They use plastic menu placemats versus white table clothes but hey, we were looking for a good meal not frills and that's what we got! Come to dinner here - you won't be disappointed!

Excellent Italian food. We came here on our last night in London and are already talking about the next time we visit that we have to come back here to eat! Everything was delicious. Start to finish the entire experience was superb.

Having lived in Pimlico for coming on to 2 yrs, I thought I would pay O Sole Mio a visit, seeing as it is literally at the bottom of my road. So I decided to take my mother for lunch on her 62nd Birthday (she had evening plans with her toyboy) When I made the booking, I advised them of the occasion, and they suggested I bring a cake and the staff would sing Happy Birthday (I think it would have been a nicer touch to give some free cake, free cake is always a winner, especially on your mum's birthday) We were duly seated at the front of the restaurant, which is really much like a small cafe/bistro, there was a private function going on in the more comfortable area. We started with Bruschetta, a simple dish, hard to mess up. The dish was fresh and nicely balanced with just the right amount of olive oil and fresh tomatoes. I ordered a Guinness and mum opted for a shandy (ok she was pacing herself) Main course was a bacon pasta dish, which was adequate, but didn't really set the tastebuds alive. Service was a little rushed, we nipped outside for a ciggie and were told to come back quickly as our mains were nearly ready. My only complaint was the way a second drink was served. The Guinness was poured literally like a glass of coke and quickly brimmed over onto the table as the waitress ran off to more pressing issues. Another waitress promptly wiped it up clean. My mum was treated to several waiters and the owner singing happy birthday, which I guess is a regular occurrence as it was delivered in a jocular manner. The owner of the venue is very charming and made my mum feel very welcome. I will certainly visit again one evening soon, as I don't want to base my opinion on one rushed lunch time service. The menu is competitively priced, and the restaurant is always busy. Based on this visit 7/10

However, I need to warn my fellow Yelpers to stay away from Oliveto if you value Good Pizza! I mean, how hard is it to have good pizza!?! It is a simple staple which I have enjoyed in the US, in China and yes even in Italy. At it's most basic, it should be dough, sauce (doesn't have to be tomato necessarily), mozzarella and maybe some toppings, right? Here is where Oliveto went wrong for my mother and me: 1) they use cheap cheddar cheese - not mozzarella! 2) not a lot of sauce, maybe just enough to color it 3) the dough was soggy and didn't rise (I actually like thin crust, but this was inferior doug and 4) topping that were not as advertised, i.e. prosciutto should not look like and taste like store-bought sliced ham! Service was okay - the men like to talk about customers in their native tongue, thinking that patrons don't know what they are saying about them. We were so glad that we split a pie - most tables got a pie per person. Neither of us could finish this "pizza" honestly. Perhaps the only redeeming thing are the prices - this might be the cheapest choice in an otherwise expensive neighborhood.

My mom is, which is why we went but there are rather limited options, at least on pasta courses, that don't include pecorino. 2 - we tried three different pasta dishes. What made them truly stand out was the freshness of the pasta. That said, the sauces weren't remarkable. I tried a special pasta with pecorino, butternut squash, and mushrooms which was nice and not heavy but not partial flavorful. 3 - the ambiance is great if you like a small restaurant- with maybe 10 tables and 500 sq ft of space, this restaurant has character and charm. 4 - the service was outstanding. The staff were kind and efficient. 5 - the dessert was just OK - had some scoops of ice cream and the peanutella was outstanding while the strawberry and the pistachio were just fine. 6 - the appetizer cheese plate was the real highlight of the night here. Fresh cold cuts and cheese with the most wonderful fig jam. All in all; this is a good stop and you certainly won't have a bad experience! Perhaps just not the most notable.

I'm not sure on that, it's just something I thought we caught on to before we left and there started to be RESERVED tents going on the tables. We went and had Scotch Egg, Calamari, Arancini, fish & chips and STICKY TOFFEE PUDDING. Oh. My. Goodness! First the Scotch Egg. I don't want to be a Debbie Downer but it was....ok. It was a little plain. A little tasteless. They could have thrown a few spices into the meat, just a little something. To say that we've made better at home wouldn't be far out. But still good. The calamari was cooked just right. It's what you expect out of a calamari appetizer. Was it the best you'll ever have? Not really. Worth the price? Add it to your appetizer list! The rice balls, which is arancini is, were good. Add a little salt to the top and they were, also, as you'd expect. The fish & chips were exactly as we were hoping when visiting an English Pub for fish & chips. The fish was perfectly cooked, the coating was fabulous, and of course the chips were a perfect compliment to the fish. A great fish & chips experience. The star of the show was the Sticky Toffee Pudding. What a treat! Granted I've nothing to compare it to, this was my first time having it, but whether I've had it before or not THIS was perfection. Perfect texture, the flavour was amazing, the caramel drizzle was perfectly proportioned, and the little bit of ice cream on the side was just perfect. I would go back here simply on this dessert alone. As for the drinks, because, you know, it's a pub....I couldn't say. I don't drink alcohol but my Diet Coke was great! Fresh bottle! ....I suppose I could have gotten a non-alcoholic beer. Wait....did they have non-alcoholic beer there? SOMEONE FIND OUT IF THEY HAVE NON-ALCOHOLIC BEER THERE. The atmosphere was great.
