We were enjoying our meal when he came over to our table, reached across us and started dumping olive oil on my food. I cannot eat olive oil for medical reasons, and I asked as politely as possible for a new plate. He became extremely irritated and started getting defensive and lied and said that he asked me and I had said yes, which I had not. A lively local spot steps from the hotel we were staying at. This place was rated high on Yelp (even with the non-Elites) so figured I'd give it a shot. Glad I did... Each night I passed by and noticed the crowds. People were chatty and happy, windows and outdoor seating were always open and buzzing. It drew quite a crowd. I thought they were just tourists like me but turns out, no. It is indeed a neighborhood gem. So this was a hit for our London dining experience. We've had quite a few misses so this was a very pleasant surprise. The menu looks straight out of Little Italy (NYC version). The service sadly was not excellent but that's because they were fully packed and busy as all heck so I deducted for that. The food more than made up for it ... did not disappoint!! Everything was delicious. But it did take a while to serve us and I don't know why they served the appetizers at the same time as our entrees. There was barely a space left on the table after our wine and sodas. Must try: prosciutto and melon appetizer as well as the avocado, tomato, and fresh mozzarella. Both were outstanding. Generous portions of prosciutto layered on top of sliced melon. The melon was super sweet! Then the avocado was a surprise element to the fresh mozzarella and tomato dish. We don't have it that way in the USA. But it works here. That fresh mozzarella was almost a pillow-y burrata like texture (same family) so it was moist and folded - very fresh. Yummy in my tummy. The entrees were really good - funny thing, so apparently they use quite a bit of vodka in their penne with vodka sauce. The waiter seemed concerned and noted that to me when he noticed I ordered it for my kid. Ha Ha (Good call and I didn't mind...it cooks off, right?!) She'll sleep well then I said. The linguine with clams were great, clams were a tad on the small side. But the dish was simple and delicious - garlic and olive oil, very good olive oil I might add. My other kid ordered the Hawaiian pizza. No shortage of # of toppings on this, it was fully stacked. Loved it. This place was super authentic and I was pleasantly surprised as we were in London...not known for their culinary hits. If I were to return to London, I would recommend this place for sure. I wish I had room to try the dessert but we were so stuffed after the entrees that we could not. Lovely neighborhood gem and perfect for a warm Italian dish on a cold, rainy England night. We came by for dinner on a Wednesday night and it was packed beyond belief! We took this as a good sign and made a reservation for the next night. The general manager remembered us from the night before and game us a warm welcome. We started off with bread and olives, followed by mussels and the caprese salad. For dinner, we both had the penne arrabiata which was cooked to perfection! Some reviews touch on the decor - honestly it didn't offend us at all and I found it to be a warm, inviting homely atmosphere. When the owner sits down at the table next to you to enjoy a pizza and raises his glass with a "Saluti!", it's a good sign. We arrived shortly before close, but they were still willing to serve us. The staff was so friendly! Everyone greeted us and said goodbye on the way out. You can tell they take pride in the food they make and serve. My serving of mushroom ravioli didn't look like much at first glance - - it was dwarfed by my boyfriend's pizza. This was a great find as a tourist to London. A short walk from our Airbnb brought us to a delicious meal! The four cheese pasta substituted for thin spaghetti vs the spiral noodle was velvety smooth. The wild boar ragu over their homemade pasta was to die for! So I decided to take my mother for lunch on her 62nd Birthday (she had evening plans with her toyboy) When I made the booking, I advised them of the occasion, and they suggested I bring a cake and the staff would sing Happy Birthday (I think it would have been a nicer touch to give some free cake, free cake is always a winner, especially on your mum's birthday) We were duly seated at the front of the restaurant, which is really much like a small cafe/bistro, there was a private function going on in the more comfortable area. We started with Bruschetta, a simple dish, hard to mess up. The dish was fresh and nicely balanced with just the right amount of olive oil and fresh tomatoes. I ordered a Guinness and mum opted for a shandy (ok she was pacing herself) Main course was a bacon pasta dish, which was adequate, but didn't really set the tastebuds alive. Service was a little rushed, we nipped outside for a ciggie and were told to come back quickly as our mains were nearly ready. My only complaint was the way a second drink was served. The Guinness was poured literally like a glass of coke and quickly brimmed over onto the table as the waitress ran off to more pressing issues. Another waitress promptly wiped it up clean. My mum was treated to several waiters and the owner singing happy birthday, which I guess is a regular occurrence as it was delivered in a jocular manner. The owner of the venue is very charming and made my mum feel very welcome. I will certainly visit again one evening soon, as I don't want to base my opinion on one rushed lunch time service. This is one of my favourite Italian restaurants in Pimlico. It's laid back, and the spartan tables, bread, jugs of water and olives give it a very Mediterranean feel to things. The staff are also friendly and attentive. Most importantly though, the food is good. My pizza was moist and its toppings fresh. They also score extra points for having a good, low alcohol beer on the menu next to the usual Perroni, Amstel and other lagers. Prices are reasonable, with pizzas costing around £8. This is one of those restaurants that makes me love Pimlico. Just hearing the staff and owners yell 'Caio Bella!' is enough to make you aware of what you are in for. My experience on a wintery Friday night was perfection. The restuarant was crowded, but fortunately no waiting for a table. We both opted for Pizzas, the vegetarian primavera for me and a pepperoni of some sort for him. Both were fresh, had perfectly crispy edged crust with a moist chewy center. The veggie topping on mine was to die for (green red and yellow peppers, eggplant and mushrooms). Can't really beat it with a beer to wash it down. Perfect start to the weekend. I can't really say anything about the other menu items, but I did notice quite a lot of people finishing their plates and all seemed happy and well in this charming restaurant. Great date spot or place to divulge with friends over a bottle of wine. The large windows in the main room overlooking a nice corner in Pimlico make for good people watching while staying warm. Absolutely charming place literally three minute walk from my flat. I'm so pleased to have found this place. I ordered soup of the day (onion soup) and vongole pasta. The soup was phenomenal, I could have had it as my main. The vongole was a little unconventional, I must say, with tomato-based sauce and clams without shells. It was solid, nonetheless. My boyfriend had parma ham and melon for starter, which was very fresh, and seafood pizza for main, which he seemed to really enjoy. Service was top-notch. They seemed to have many regulars, each of whom they personally greeted when they left. Even for us first timers, they were very personal and came by to check on us multiple times. I found the manager very kind and charming. Ambience was very local -- I felt like I was in a restaurant in Italy. Nothing sleek but very cozy and personable. I found this place on Yelp after checking it out from walking past. We did not book and walked in around 6.30 on a Saturday night. I understand they get really busy later on but at this time they were quiet. Staff were pleasant but only spoke Italian amongst them selves. A lovely little piece of Italy in Pimlico! It really did feel like we'd just gone to Italy for our dinner in this lovely, cosy restaurant. Except that the service at O Sole Mio is much better than any I've had in Italy! The staff are positively wondeful, super attentive and friendly, you're never left in need of anything. The menu is broad and ticks all the traditional Italian fare boxes of pasta, pizza, lasagne etc. There are also plenty of meat and fish based dishes and daily specials. The minestrone is fantastic as is the beef carpaccio. For mains I had one of my Italian faves, Saltimboca alla Romana - veal, bacon, sage, potatoes..and they do it very well here. The coffee, as expected, is also great and the dessert menu looks well worth a try. I was, alas, too full to indulge. Give it a go! C* read more

i'm no italian food connoisseur and it's not my favorite type of food, but this place was a bit of a letdown. as an appetizer we got the bread and butter thing, and the bread was really delicious. for the meal i got the avocado tricolore (it's listed as a starter) and it was good. just slices of tomato and mozzarella and avocado, simple and fresh. my dad got a calzone and it was as big as my head. i don't think he loved it. my mom got an off-the-menu pasta with olive oil and chili flakes. she said the pasta was clumpy and not super flavorful. my brother got the cheese pizza and it was pretty good. the crust was amazing, but he did not enjoy it (he's picky). we did get to sit outside which made the experience better. would definitely recommend trying to get outdoor seating if you can. overall: food: 3/5 service: 4/5 ambience: 3/5 read more

O Sole Mio has been around as long as I've known the Pimlico area. It was always a little bit tacky looking, and the food wasn't as good as local joints like Uno and Gustoso (which, admittedly, are much fancier). It sat in that middle-ground of not quite having good enough pizza to beat away the local Pizza Express, and not quite having a deep enough menu to justify the price tag over home cooking. But it recently had an impressive facelift and I'd noticed that it was often crowded on weekend evenings (partly due to having a relatively large outside seating section) so I figured it was worth another go. We ordered burrata and mussels to start (two classic dishes, and so easy to compare with other menus) and both were very tasty. The burrata, my dish, was served with parma ham and tomatoes, which isn't particularly inventive but was more than satisfactory. Unfortunately, they both took quite a long time to arrive and our waiter had to assure us on several occasions that it would be coming, but was taking time because the mussels take a long time to cook. I'm no professional seafood chef, but I've never been under the impression that fresh mussels should be slow-cooked, so I felt like we were being BSed a little. Our mains came more speedily and we had calves' liver and cod respectively, both of which were nice. My calves' liver was served rather roughly, with very little finesse, but it was well-cooked and delicious, and came with a side of good, crispy potatoes. The cod was also good though suffered from similarly limited presentation. So, all in all, the food was good, which may leave you wondering why O Sole Mio only gets 3 stars. Well, the restaurant is actually priced less like a cheap and cheerful local Italian and more like a fancy Pimlico eatery. My calves' liver was around £17 which is by no means cheap, and not very good value for the manner in which it was served. O Sole Mio feels like there is a discord between the way in which the food is served (rustic, hearty) and the way in which it's priced (cosmopolitan, pricey). What with that and the service issues, it's hard for me to particularly recommend this restaurant. read more

I had the fortune of eating here a couple of weeks ago. I had just arrived from the US and was tired and hungry. This was a quick walk from my hotel so why not? Went in the side door, like a dummy didn't realize the main entrance was on the corner. No matter, they let me in and we chuckled. Looked over the menu, and said YUM! Decided on the cannelloni. Only unseemly thing: they charge for bread and butter. Sorta weird for Italian food where bread is a HUGE part of the meal. Service is very good, owner/manager comes out, explains a few dishes, etc. Very personable. Server is the same. Now the food: OMG. JUST OMG. Most likely this is the best Italian meal I've had outside of Italy. Perfect doneness and consistency, fresh grated Parmesan of course was the topper along with fresh ground pepper. Then tiramisu. Not saying any more because I'm drooling just thinking about it. Winner!! Pricing very reasonable aside from the bread lol. You can't go wrong with this place! read more

I have to give this restaurant 5 stars on the basis of the warm welcome we always get whenever we visit. This is local to my aged mother's flat, who is addicted to the fried liver and sage and so always orders the same thing. Every time we visit, she is greeted like their long lost grandmother and given the choice window seat and, at Christmas, they give her a gift of Panettone. How can I criticise anything after that? They do good pizzas and, if you stick to the specials board, good, fresh though simple main meals. Wierdly, the pasta is pedestrian, in my experience, probably best avoided. It is always busy. The truth is, one could quite easily find much better Italian food in London but the warm atmosphere and friendly staff is what really keeps us coming back. read more

On a recent trip to London, we ate at O Sole Mio a couple of times. It was about 50 feet away from our hotel and got great recommendations from their staff so we decided to give them a shot. It reminded us a lot of our oldest daughter's favorite restaurant from her studies in Rome, Italy. Great food, very reasonable prices, warm family service. On our first outing, I had the linguine with clams and my wife the bow tie pasta with salmon sauce. We eat a lot of seafood and the staff did a great job with the preparation. We visited again a couple of days later and my wife liked the linguine and clams so much that she ordered it and I tried the veal marsala. Once again we weren't disappointed. Compared to some of the other restaurants and pubs we tried in London, O Sole Mio's pricing, selection and preparation compared very favorably. We got warm greetings from the staff who recognized us as return diners and were treated just like family. I would recommend this restaurant without hesitation. Should we return to London, we'll definitely pay them another visit. read more

Nice place staff friendly and helpful. Bread was offered for a starter and delicious and fresh. Although no children's menu this was not a problem as you can opt for a child's portion of any dish. My husband and I opted for lasagne and unfortunately when it arrived we both noted the dish was only warm and rather cool in the middle. This was not a problem for the staff as it was taken away promptly by staff and when returned it was piping hot. Such a shame this happened first time, but it did taste very nice when brought back. read more
