This place was quite good but I don't think it was amazing and here's why: 1 - you have to be a BIG fan of pecorino cheese. My mom is, which is why we went but there are rather limited options, at least on pasta courses, that don't include pecorino. 2 - we tried three different pasta dishes. What made them truly stand out was the freshness of the pasta. That said, the sauces weren't remarkable. I tried a special pasta with pecorino, butternut squash, and mushrooms which was nice and not heavy but not partial flavorful. 3 - the ambiance is great if you like a small restaurant- with maybe 10 tables and 500 sq ft of space, this restaurant has character and charm. 4 - the service was outstanding. The staff were kind and efficient. 5 - the dessert was just OK - had some scoops of ice cream and the peanutella was outstanding while the strawberry and the pistachio were just fine. 6 - the appetizer cheese plate was the real highlight of the night here. Fresh cold cuts and cheese with the most wonderful fig jam. All in all; this is a good stop and you certainly won't have a bad experience! Perhaps just not the most notable. read more

This is a perfect hole-in-the-wall restaurant tucked away in a small alleyway--a hidden gem that serves some of the best pasta I've ever had. Inside, the restaurant is tiny and feels like stepping into a cozy Italian country house: dark, inviting, and full of charm. Complimentary bread is served as soon as you sit down, accompanied by fresh chopped basil from the plant on the table, mixed into the olive oil. We were shopping in Knightsbridge and 19 year old found this absolute gem for our dinner. Osteria Romana ended up serving some of thebest Italian food I have ever eaten! The complimentary bread (especially the focaccia) was fabulous. The rest of the food continued the trend. We started with. Roman Pinsa (looks and tastes like a pizza!) Entrees included excellent steak and fish, but the stars of the show were the homemade pastas! I haven't consumed pasta this delicious since I was in Italy. The restaurant is small, but comfortable and inviting. Service was friendly and helpful. We kept asking for more bread and our server happily obliged. I will say the food was good, but not spectacular. The portions were good, the service was a little slow, but I know the Italian way of life is to take your time. Walking by and was hungry, looked up some places that were close and this one was worth a shot. It's a very small place but it is very cozy inside. I was recommended the bucatini and it was amazing. I loved that it came out in a warm pan and the tase was amazing. We also got the fettuccine ciociara and while the noodles were good, the sauce felt like it was missing something. We were excited about this place after seeing tempting photos of fresh pasta online. And the fresh pasta is pretty darn good. But there were just so many hiccups.... We sat down, and it was a good long while before we received menus, which were handed to us without a word. Then our server tore some leaves of basil off a plant in the middle of the table and placed them in a small cup with some olive oil, which he said was for bread. But the bread didn't arrive right away; we had to wait a few more minutes for that as well. We wanted sparkling water but were told there was none. At least the still water came shortly thereafter. We ordered a pinsa and asked for no artichokes, but the artichokes came all the same. We found a fish scale on the seabass and a bone in the paccheri with cod. Some sort of plumbing repairs were going on, which resulted in loud noises throughout the main course. The pastas were salty to our taste, and our server offered that this was because of the pecorino romano cheese... a Roman restaurant, after all. Listen, the fresh pasta was of a very high quality, and the seabass was cooked really well. Maybe they've had better nights. Not sure we'll be back to find out, though. read more

Osteria Romana was a hidden gem just when we needed it. After a long day of being a tourist, it was wonderful to sit and eat in a cozy spot. When we walked up without reservations I was initially concerned by the look on the face of the maître'd but we were seated right away. Fresh basil clipped at our table and drenched in olive oil was a beautiful start. We both enjoyed pastas with cream sauces which were comforting and rich. While they were out of my wine choice, I was brought a taste of a substitute and it fit my needs perfectly. It was busy and noisy on a Wednesday night but good vibes all around. I took my partner here for our first dinner after arriving in London. First, you walk down a narrow pedestrian walkway that opens up to a small courtyard where the inviting exterior just screams CUTE! You are super close to Harrods and the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. When you enter, you are greeted by warmth and the scent of the amazing food they are serving. The main dining area has about 12 tables - it is so quaint and inviting. Now onto the food. You start with bread and they cut fresh basil into the oil. The scent of the basil just makes you excited to eat! We both ordered pasta, and they were both really good. I started with the rocket salad. I miss rocket salad and this one did not disappoint. Why is rocket SO MUCH better in the UK than in the United States???? Anyway, he got spaghetti marinara and I ordered Cacio e Pepe. I love the way they served this in the little copper saucepans and the pasta was perfectly al dente. We both loved our dinner. Lastly, we had tiramisu for dessert and it was fantastic. The service was attentive and friendly - I felt like they really cared that you enjoyed your experience. I was looking for a good restaurant that wasn't too far from Harrods (about a 5min walk) and I found this gem through yelp. It is located inside a small alley and from the outside, it had a colorful flower filled exterior so you can't miss it. As soon as we entered the restaurant, Nicolas (the host) greeted us and quickly told us that they'll just set up the table to accommodate my big family (a group of 8, we were traveling to London from the US). The restaurant was small and cozy-- it felt really homey. We immediately got sat towards the back and was served toasted bread. They also served us freshly cut basil and olive oil to dip the bread in and it was really good. Ali, our server, was extremely accomodating. He wanted to make sure everyone had enough serving of the basil olive oil dip + bread. We asked for another serving of bread and he happily served us another warm batch. I ordered the Tonnarelli Cacio and Pepe Style with Black Truffle in Pecorino Wheel which was so good. I even had my eyes closed while I had my first bite. It was very, very creamy and rich. If you love truffle then this dish is on point. My pasta was cooked al dente which I love. My family also ordered Roast Seabass Fillet, Veal Meatballs, Spaghetti Tomato and Basil, Fettuccine with Mussels, Tomatoes and Pecorino Cheese and Cacio e Pepe. For dessert we had the hazelnut ice cream and tiramisu. Everyone in my family loved what they ordered. They even talked about how good the food was as we walked back to Harrods. Ali and Nicolas were amazing-- they were very attentive and friendly. My family wouldnt stop raving how amazing the service and food was. 3 Americans on summer vacation, stopped in here on a Monday evening with my wife and 9 year old daughter. We had no reservation but they were able to accommodate us, but I think we got lucky as we watched a few other parties get turned away after us. Tucked away in a shaded but busy alleyway right next to a popular entrance to Hyde Park. Food was high quality, service was personable and attentive, and also relatively quick by European standards. Ambience was unique but tasteful with the alleyway setting. Jesus was our waiter and did an outstanding job while providing some laughs. You could taste the quality in the food, and a good deal on a carafe of red wine for our last day of vacation. Prices were great considering the excellent quality. The entire meal was outstanding! The only downside was the service we received. We had an 8 pm reservation, but called and arrived within the grace period (8:15). It took us asking multiple times in order to get bread and our meat & cheese board. Outside of that, it was the best pasta we had our entire trip. It was cooked perfectly! Found this place based off reviews and jds obvious why people take the time to leave them. This little gem is tucked into an ally and invites you in with tables covered in traditional checkered clothes and a warm greeting from the hostess. What it lacks in square footage the staff and flavors more than make up for. Dominic was attentive and had all the right suggestions, but he stole my heart when he found out I loved truffles and added a few extra to my pasta dish. Terrible service , standard food and rude waiters would not come back again. The waiter was extremely loud and kept throwing the plates on the table like we where in high school or somthing. My parents where there and everytime they asked a question the waiters would scream back the answer with attitude. I came there twice before and it was great but I dont know what happened this time. All the food was service cold . Had to get the attention of the waiter to get bread which arrived 30 minutes later. Food took very long to arrive and the taste was bland. Wouldnt recomend to come back honestly. I know this review is harsh but when I really enjoy an experience at a restuarant and I come for the second time and this happenes , I will write a review like this. read more
