It was extremely average. They ask you sparkling or still water, without the option of tap water, then charge 5.95 pounds??? Always get tap water! Even if they give you two options, say tap water. All the food options are expensive, and nothing stands out as incredible. The appetizer with salami and cheese was lackluster, but I suppose all of it was imported. The alfredo pasta wasn't good either, with the noodles having a weird texture. The worst was the caesar salad, which instead of having a light dressing, was completely soaked in a sea of dressing, making every piece fully saturated. It was extremely unappetizing. I came to eat at Cicchetti on a recommendation from a friend and it's the best place I ate in London. I lived in Italy for 4 years and I felt like I was transported back to those times! Everyone was friendly and the food was absolutely delicious. The tables are set up in an intimate way for smaller parties and we ended up making friends with the people next to us and staying an hour after we finished eating just to chat. We never felt rushed or like we were in the way (it was later at night and no new customers were coming in) If we got a Cicchetti's in the US I would fly there just to eat! read more

Delicious family style Italian cuisine was so welcomed after many days of traveling. We dined here on the recommendation of a dear friend after visiting the website of all the San Carlo locations. We selected about eight options, including meat and vegetarian based. The vegetarian items were equally delicious, and the meat eaters in the group enjoyed the options. The items came out one after the other, as soon as we were finished with the prior course. This made for consistent hot food, which is a must for me. Nothing worse than room temperature pasta, which was definitely not the case here. The restaurant was packed, but the service was still very good. Our sever recommended dishes, wine, and was overall very attentive, but not rushing us to leave. We enjoyed our last dinner in London in a leisurely fashion. I hope they will created one in the US at some point. Until then, I will have to make this a must stop when in London! read more

If you've ever been to the Olive Garden in the US, you'll know what to expect when coming to this restaurant. It's crowded on any given day, so reservations are a must, and if you're coming in alone, expect to sit at an even more crowded bar with barely enough room for your stuff, and awkward conversations with the barman. The food isn't bad per sé, but it lacks a certain homemade quality that makes great Italian food what it is. Given that it shows up at your table less than ten minutes after you order it makes me question what's really going on in the kitchen. You can definitely tell that it's from a franchise, and it's easy to confuse this place for the Caffe Concertos you see scattered throughout the touristy areas in London. Again, it isn't awful. The cocktails aren't the greatest, but they also won't kill you. The Chicken Milanese and Spaghetti Bolognese lacked a bit of 'mmph,' but I've had worse. The Tiramisu is hardly the best I've tried, but at least it's made in-house and comes with a shot of marsala (dessert wine). Overall, the experience was just 'meh.' We finally made it to Cicchetti's on Piccadilly Road. The food was really good and quite quickly delivered. Since it was tapas style, we all ordered 2 or 3 dishes. The Gnocchi were a hit as was the margherita pizza and eggplant melanzana. The hit to me was the beet and whipped ricotta starter. We couldn't get enough of that. Our servers were really nice and attentive too. Unfortunately, there was a waiter or manager (short with a beard) that was looking me up and down and quite frankly looked at me in disgust when I was walking in to the point where my family even was making comments and asking what that was all about. I can only imagine that he was put off by my tattoos. We observed him giving several other people a dirty look. Not sure what that was all about. The food was outstanding though and I would recommend this restaurant to anybody who wants to enjoy a good meal. read more

This is a descent dinner spot and the food was great, especially the pizza. They do small plates intended for sharing. For instance, I ordered the mushroom ravioli and it came with 4 ravioli and my husband ordered the pasta bolognese. We ended up ordering a couple more items because we were still hungry. Read the menu and it will give you the proper guidance that we failed to follow. I gave it a 4 star because while the food was delicious, the service could have been better by European standards. read more

It's like Italian Tapas. We had a little of everything and I can't say one thing was better than another. The service was slow and the food was fresh. My wife had this place on her must visit list in London. It's a bit of a tourist attraction and has been around for a while so doesn't generate as much social media excitement. We had no problem making a phone reservation for Sunday night for 2 on the day before. We arrived a little early and were seated right away. From the outside, the front window showcases an old-style display of Italian themed ingredients that belies the beautiful, bright, modern looking interior. One thing that struck me was how genuinely happy and friendly everyone seemed. They didn't give off the "Your new best friend" vibe as much as "so pleased you're here!" Service was attentive and a few times the manager walked around and helped with the service. It's kind of Tapas--style so they recommend 5-6 plates for 2. We started with the Insalata Caprese, aka tomato and mozzarella and basil but with a twist - avocado slices followed by Osso Buco - decadent with chunks of fall apart meat in a rich tomato based sauce over a bed of risotto. Pugliese pizza (with Parma, burrito, arugula, and black truffle) had to be tried since they had their own wood fired oven. It was bigger than I expected and I think intentionally not round. There were what looked like truffle slices on top but they didn't exude that rich truffle smell or taste. Then came the Tagliatelle Bolognese - wide ribboned pasta with a hearty meat sauce. And lastly, the Spaghetti Carbonara (which I never order in a restaurant) - in that simple creamy fatty consistency, arrived. The pasta deserves additional description. When you go to an Italian restaurant, you expect the pasta to be the perfect consistency of al dente. I'm pleased to say that Cicchetti delivered. The food was classic and very well executed. It's definitely from an older era but I would say that it has aged very well and still delivers an excellent experience. PS - the drinks along the top of the wall above the bar area are just decorative and not real drinks - like the "Italian martini" - not a thing there. And in their striving to please just made one up for us (kind of weird tasting to be honest) and it wasn't until we saw the bill that they told us that their computer didn't have that drink in their system so they just put an equivalent cocktail to ring it up. Reservation ahead of time is necessary. The Branzino (Seabass) with the vongole (clams) was delicious. The pizza dough was difficult to cut, but the pizza was good. It is a "tapas"(small plates) type place, but portions are quite nice. I did not really like the dining room because all the tables are very close to one another, and it feels like being in a station hall at peak hour. I wish I could give this place 5 stars only if they didn't constantly giving my food to the next table, including the last order in the restaurant for that day, and the next table took all the free food eating them greedily while I was just staring at them with anger. My husband and I just returned from a 4 day trip to London. We ate at this restaurant 3 times!! The food was delicious and perfectly portioned. Everything from the salad to the pizza to the pasta was fabulous. But, the service and staff made our dining experience over the top. Eva was our server each day and we came back partially to see her! She was friendly and attentive. She accommodated any request and frequently checked on us to see if we needed anything. Had very high hopes for this place based on reviews and the menu. Unfortunately, we were left not only disappointed, but shocked that the place had such high reviews. To start, not only our two person party, but two other twosomes, weren't sat until at least 40 minutes past our reservation time... The food was awful, not inedible, but certainly did not meet the expectations of the reviews or warrant the prices being charged. The food tasted like frozen/microwaveable dishes. Even down to the marinated olives. Not sure how it's possible to mess that up. We had to consistently wave down a waiter in order to get service, and finally towards the end of our meal (nowhere near closing) noticed and watched our waitress leave without saying anything regarding the bill, change of service, etc. Lastly, there was what was very obviously period blood on the floor in the women's bathroom. Extremely unsanitary. On a positive note, in order to show I'm not entirely biased, they did have a nice wine list. However, that's not hard to do with a knowledgeable manager. Ultimately, I do not understand the ratings this place currently has. I can only assume it's due to its' location and lack of awareness of the clientele on what good food and service really entails. After walking past San Carlo Cicchetti so many times on various trips, I decided to check it out for lunch. It was really busy around 1-2pm and smelled of lovely pasta and seafood aromas. I tried a seafood stew topped with a thin pastry like crust. Upon arrival, the waiter cut the bread and rolled it up to the side. The stew was rich and savory with fresh seafood. I was pleasantly surprised with both the food and service. A great spot for a very touristy area. Service was tough - they kept forgetting things. Or when we'd order dishes like the Queen Scallops Gratin, it didn't dawn on the servers to recommend we order 3 orders since there were only 2 per order and there were 6 of us. That said, they were much more 'gratin' than 'scallop'. Makes me wonder on the quality of the scallop... Calamari had a simple taste - could've used a lot more lemon. Grilled artichokes were a nice change of flavor and texture, but I found them a bit too oily and not enough citrus. Truffle pasta saved them - but that's b/c it's truffle, which is such a powerful flavor. The pasta itself was subpar. Same w/ Lobster Ravioli. We had to ask for the Veal Milanese multiple times until it finally came out. And it wasn't worth the wait. Super salty. Black pasta was my favorite as the actual pasta really got to shine through. We ended things w/ the dessert platter. Aside from the cream puff and the pistachio tarte - I could've gone w/o. Everything was overly sweet.
