It's the perfect mix of great coffee, surf culture, and energetic young people. It's also one of my favorite spots to bring my Leica and capture candid black-and-white moments. The coffee menu is always fun to explore, and this time we spent a little longer deciding what to order. I was worried we were holding up the line, but the barista was incredibly patient. They walked us through the menu, answered all our questions, and kept reassuring us not to rush. That kind of genuine hospitality is rare these days. Even when the shop is busy, the staff never makes you feel rushed. Great coffee, amazing vibe, and outstanding service. I'll definitely keep coming back.

Light on the matcha and 12oz, so given the size is a little pricier than other spots. However, I do like that they do not charge extra for oat milk (per the menu...I think my cashier was training, so he accidentally charged me $1 for the oat milk, oh wells). Line is long on a Sat mid morning (10am)--was maybe 14th in line--but they keep it moving, and the drink was out in less than 5 mins. Also got a sourdough toast ($5) with bacon ($3.50), and it was pricey, but a nice treat. I bet their avo toast is great given the satisfying bread and perfect toastiness. Love the open air (garage doors in back), lively vibes, and cute pricey surf shop merch. Will be back!

This is one of my favorite surf shops in the entire South Bay, and it's one of the most famous in…read moreLA in general. It's been open since 1972, so all sorts of famous athletes have been associated with it. The shop is quite large and has everything from gear to apparel and is actually multiple levels. There is a small free parking lot in back, but street parking is also pretty easy to find. The staff was very friendly when I stopped in, and I was able to pick up a few items that I was searching for. It's also located just off the 101 Hwy and not far from the beach, so the location is really great. I would definitely suggest.

ET is filled with the most killer selection of things for every budget. My kids are new to surfing,…read moreso we're all still learning what's necessary and what isn't in terms of gear. What is immediately apparent once you walk into ET is just how much every single employee there genuinely wants to help you out however you need. There's zero pushy sales bs, and nothing but genuine interaction. We ended up getting a Ripcurl spring suit, some Sticky Bumps, and checking out their huge selection of boards. I was anxious to get a "real" board, but the guy helping us was kind enough to tell me to slow my roll. My kids are on Wavestormers and still getting a feel for it, and the guy suggested not to rush them past that stage. Much appreciated advice, and it means I am 1000% coming back to ET when they *are* ready for new boards. There's a reason places like ET have been open for decades--they're doing it right in every respect.

BEST BEGINNER SURFBOARDS - ONLY $40 ALL DAY!…read more EASY, AFFORDABLE RENTALS Walk in, pick your board, and hit the waves! No reservations needed. Enjoy ALL-DAY rentals for just $40 - less than the price of renting at the beach where you only get the board for 2 hours! BETTER BOARDS FOR ADULT BEGINNERS The rental shops at Doheny Beach offer boards that work well for kids but are too narrow for most adults learning to surf. Rent a Storm Blade here instead! These boards are wider, more stable, and much easier for beginners to balance on. EXTRA-WIDE BOARDS = EASIER LEARNING If you're a complete beginner or struggle with balance, choose an extra-wide Storm Blade. The added stability makes standing up and catching your first waves much easier! BONUS: Built-in carrying handles on the Storm Blades make getting your board to and from the beach a breeze. THE BOTTOM LINE Better beginner boards. Less money ($40) for ALL DAY! THE SERVICE Fast and friendly. Show your ID, sign you waiver, and byeeeeeee!

I got two scoops, Rocky Road and pecan, both were delicious. They got really cool wooden Picnic tables too. On hot days especially, this place will be extremely popular. The owner is extremely cool. He mentioned that he's bringing back the Doheny Paddle Fest this summer too. He has a passion for thrifty ice cream, paddle boards, the community, Dana point, he's been in business for decades, I remember coming here as a teen. Additionally, The employees were all chill. At the moment, this is the only place that I know of that serves thrifty ice cream here in Orange County. So I was willing to pay a lot. - but didn't have to because all the prices were great. Not worthy, they did everything correctly, such as using the special thrifty brand scooper, wearing gloves, they had all the right cones. Multiple flavors too. It was all perfectly done. We Plan on coming back here Real soon with more family members and friends! (additionally I met some really nice people that were enjoying the thrifty ice cream because it's so retro, and the place is so inviting that it's a great place to make new friends.)
