We visited Botequim o Encontro for a quick lunch, as it was around the corner from our AirBnb.
We found the restaurant through the TheFork app, which offered us a 30% discount with a reservation. We arrived a little early, and were promptly greeted and seated by the host, and given English-language menus.
We both ordered a Francesinha, a sandwich originating in the Porto region and commonly listed as a must-try when in Portugal. The sandwich took a while to prepare due to its many layers. The flavors leaned slightly tart, due to the tomato-and-beer sauce. The host explained that the sauce was normally much spicier, but he made it less spicy since we were tourists. My companion and I enjoyed our sandwiches nonetheless.
Our sandwiches were served with unsalted French fries, and our host gave us a salt shaker in case we wanted salt.
I'd love to return to this local restaurant, as I appreciated our host's warmth and hospitality.
