Visited Paris during a heatwave and were drawn into O Comptoir by their sign advertising air conditioning. While the air conditioning didn't end up providing much comfort (as is the case in most European businesses since they leave the windows and doors wide open even though the air is on), we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner experience here. Our waitress was patient with us while we chose the table in the area we thought would be coolest (temperature-wise) and was very accommodating to our inability to speak French.
We ordered some lovely chilled wine, and were also provided with ice and water -- with both the cubes and the water replenished regularly. Sweet serenity!
From my brother who had the lamb and raved about it, to my sister who said her scallops and mashed potatoes were fantastic, to my dad who really enjoyed his grilled salmon with roasted potatoes substituted for rice, it was a happy table. My 4-year-old nephew ordered a small rotisserie chicken and loved it. We were especially grateful that the waitress found a way to fulfill his special request for BBQ sauce. I ordered a steak and found it to be quite rough. Granted, I ordered it well done, so that is partly on me, but I would not order steak there again. Everything else was great!
We finished up with delicious chocolate cake, and apple tart served with peach sorbet -- a combination we would not have thought of ourselves, but that really worked beautifully.
On a list of all the enjoyments of this restaurant, perhaps tops would be the musical entertainment. Shortly after we ordered our food a young man sat up at the piano and began to play and sing beautifully. He was soon joined by two young women who also sang and played music and all of them harmonized and worked together to make for a truly special sound. We felt really lucky to have wandered in to a place with such great music. read more
