"Le Caveau des Oubliettes" translate to English as "The Dungeon Vault". In America, this place is a fire hazard. In France, the locals converted this underground cellar into a small music venue. You can feel the A/C running, but it still gets warm and muggy when it gets crowded, and it will get crowded on a Friday or Saturday. We were looking for Jazz, but instead we got a Led Zeppelin cover band, which was really really really loud in this dungeon vault. After sweating and feeling claustrophobic in this semi-sauna after 3 songs, my friends and I left. We might have stayed longer if it was a jazz night. The ground floor is just a bar and a couple tables with no view of the band, but at least you don't claustrophobic. NO COVER CHARGE! But "The Most Expensive Beer of Yelp Elite Chun P's life was purchased here"...€11 Beer pint...not sure what it was, it good, but the most expensive beer of my life! $14.30...never paid that much for a beer back in America. €7 glasses of red wine for the wife and friends...but I think my beer was 3 times larger in volume than these wine glasses.

Cute little bar with an intimate venue downstairs. Came here for some live music during our last night in Paris. All of the bartenders and staff were kind and welcoming and the band was great! Geraldine Delacoux had a beautiful voice that filled up the room with feeling. Other patrons were also pretty laid back. Not pretentious, not crazy, just there to have a good time.

The tiny jazz bar downstairs has a lovely atmosphere and the whole place would be lovely were the drinks not so inflated that they put you off even being there. I'd rather just pay to get in and then not pay 11 quid for a slightly rubbish cocktail... If you want to go, go early as it gets absolutely packed before the music even starts.

Too expensive to be worth it. The mood is cool, until the giant bartender forces you to purchase the highly overpriced beverages.

A speakeasy-style jazz bar that welcomes all ages. The building layout itself is super interesting…read more The ground floor you enter from seems to be the main bar area where you order drinks. Then go down to the basement for live jazz music and dancing! The spiral staircase with the old brick walls leading to the upstairs restroom seems like a secret passageway you'd find in a castle from centuries ago. It was my last night in Paris and I was pleasantly surprised at the large crowd on a late Tuesday night (came in almost at midnight). My partner and I couldn't find seats at the beginning but people come and go pretty fast here. The ambiance is casual and there's no pressure to order drinks or anything, but there is a 13 Euro cover fee which is very reasonable to support the jazz bands that perform here. One of the best things about this place is the crowd it attracts. Everyone is friendly and welcoming and the dance floor was constantly moving. I've never seen such amazing swing dancers before!

Success on that score, but all too brief. Unfortunately, the venue was terrible. This place is obviously interested in collecting as many admissions fees as possible, and unconcerned about the safety of its patrons. The music area was jam packed, with standing room only, and people were literally pressed into one another to the point that it was not only impossible to move, but also difficult to breathe. . And the box office was still selling admissions! Apparently, there's no fire code here. It's super uncomfortable, but if you don't have a loved one to press your body up against, maybe this place is your cup of tea. My group left after about 15 minutes. Bottom line: great music, safety hazard, super uncomfortable and nerve-wracking. Do not recommend.
