My first drink was the permaculture and while I was considered it would be strong, it didn't seem strong to me. I love clarified dairy in alcohol so this was a win in my book. It consists of chestnut, butter, wakaze umeshu, avallen Calvados. The bar let's you stay for an hour but if you sit elsewhere, you can stay as long as you want. 5 stars and I hope to come back someday!

The bartenders were incredibly sweet too. They answered all our questions, made recommendations based on what we actually like, and clearly knew their menu well. Always appreciate bartenders who don't just point randomly and say "this one." The decor and vibe were awesome -- dark, tropical, quirky, and full-on escapism. Felt like stepping into a hidden island bar in the middle of Paris. Only thing that threw us a little? The music. At several points it sounded less "tropical tiki escape" and more "waiting 45 minutes for Space Mountain at Disney World." This place is obviously interested in collecting as many admissions fees as possible, and unconcerned about the safety of its patrons. The music area was jam packed, with standing room only, and people were literally pressed into one another to the point that it was not only impossible to move, but also difficult to breathe. . And the box office was still selling admissions! Apparently, there's no fire code here. It's super uncomfortable, but if you don't have a loved one to press your body up against, maybe this place is your cup of tea. My group left after about 15 minutes. Bottom line: great music, safety hazard, super uncomfortable and nerve-wracking. Do not recommend.

The venue looks sketchy from the outside, but the bouncers are kind and inside, the place is really comfortable and nice. Their happy hours were kind of weird (during happy hours, their beers are priced really well, but it ended pretty early) and the club closed comparatively early. I'd recommend this place as a chill vibe/pre-game to get to see the city in a relaxing and introspective way.

My 500th review, dedicated to Bubar... This bar is magical…read more There's just something about this spot where you know so much has happened within these 4 walls over years and years. I fell in love with it a couple of weeks ago during my first trip to Paris, where I ended up visiting it not once but twice. It's a dive wine bar, but with so much character, in every nook and cranny. I had read reviews on both TripAdvisor and Yelp, albeit dated. There is no name listed on doorway so could be hard to miss, but something about the red lighting and energy just drew me in. (That and some trusty reviews online...) The first night was a little intimidating at first. A group of older gentlemen, all friends and all seemed to know the owner, were deep into conversation at the bar. However, as soon as I walked in, solo, that very owner, Jean-Loup (he made sure I captured the correct spelling, vs. some renditions in other reviews ;)) warmly greeted and welcomed me. From there on, it was bliss. For me personally it was a pivotal moment because just a few days prior to that, I was still a bit fearful about exploring the city solo with very little grasp of French, but that night, I felt brave and wandered by Bubar. So glad I did. Jean-Loup not only nailed a few wines for me that were all sheer perfection (there's a daunting list but disregard that and just tell him what you're in the mood for because he'll find something spot-on), but offered a small plate of nibbles, after asking if I preferred 'fruits or vegetables'...a sweet, personal touch. I enjoyed a wonderful night just respectfully observing his interactions with his buddies (clearly he is very adored here, and a local staple,) while he checked in on me regularly to ensure I was doing fine. Such an amazing evening. The following night I had to stop by again just to say goodbye. I simply won't be forgetting Jean-Loup and Bubar anytime soon. The bar appears to be full of whatever you would like but a signature cocktail menu that reads like a beautiful coffee table book is given to everyone. The drinks with names like Corn, Apple, etc are given to elaborate cocktails that are crafted with multiple layers of ingredients. Seems weird but everyone loved theirs and we all shared sips. I highly recommend that here if you are familiar with your companions. Call your banker first as $30 per drink is average! But the girl I raised bought it so whatever? Wish I photographed that menu!! Service is bright with ample and thoughtful olive and nuts assortments and water backs for all without asking. For a splurge I could not urge enough of you to try!! Seeing this hotel property alone is worth it right down to the gilded bathrooms excellently attended. We did not try the food as they were just about to convert to first dinner service and we had Xmas Eve dinner for the family booked at a different Michelin star restaurant later. I'll bet the food is the shizzle though!!!
