I do not know which bothers me more: the cook sent out this awful plate of food -or- the fact that I did not send it back ! Chicken Tenders looked, tasted and smelled like they were overcooked in motor oil dirtier than what is in my Chevrolet. this place makes Mediocre food an upgrade. to make matters worse: I politely requested that the chicken be cooked on the light side, so shame on the waitress whom we tipped 25% for not giving a care. I guess as long they are making money hand over fist every day, nothing else matters. O'Charlie's restaurant at 2808 W. DeYoung, St. in Marion, Illinois has become our go-to restaurant since we first discovered it and our favorite server, Rebecca over a year ago. We found this place while staying at the Comfort Inn and Suites close by on Black Diamond road and it is certainly a gem! The food there has always been awesome, the ambiance is well set and clean and our favorite server, Becca, will not let you make a bad decision. Today is Father's Day 2025 and my daughter decided to bring her Dad to this restaurant. We were seated fairly quickly so that wasn't the issue. We ordered as soon as we came in without ordering appetizers because we knew what we wanted. My husband and I ordered the Prime rib special, mine was medium rare while his was medium well. My daughter ordered the honey chicken with Mac and cheese. Now fast forward, we've been sitting for over an hour for our food, other patrons got their food when they came in after us, and when our food did come my daughters Mac and cheese was cold the sauce for the chicken was cold and coagulated the rice was cold and hard and the mashed potatoes was cold. My husband never received his food and our waitress said that his was still being prepared, my food came out with missing condiments and the baked potatoe was cold. We decided to just leave and not eat there. Upon leaving on of the servers told who I'm assuming was the manager that we were leaving and he stated he didn't care about us leaving. Mind you while we were leaving there was a lot of patrons waiting to be seated while the wait staff standing around not cleaning off the tables while there were empty tables available. Monday - Friday lunch special that they didn't know about... I was browsing around on the OC app. I stumbled across a $10 lunch special. 4 chicken tenders, fries and a coke - $10! Sarah greeted me promptly, asked what I'd like to drink. I said I'd like a coke since it comes with the special. Looking confused, she asked me to show her. I did, and she asked to borrow my phone to show the manager. Apparently there was a button for this special, but they were told not to use it. Later Sarah offered me a selection of pie, as it was "free pie Wednesday". Add it all up...regular price: Chicken tenders & fries $12.99 + Coke $3.69 + pie $5.49 = $22.17 + tax & tip. This place is a prime example of a bad restaurant. We must have went on Opposite Day. The beer was warm. The crispy fried items were soggy. We started out with the fried green tomatoes. Refer to the picture on how they came out. Literally thrown on the plate. They were under seasoned, soggy and the sauce on them was a strange bbq sauce that didn't pair well with them at all. My wife had the fried catfish. Again, soggy and under seasoned. The slaw was very dry. Imagine just chopped cabbage without seasoning. She also had a side salad and requested red onion to be added to it. They seriously charged $0.99 for a few slivers of onion!!!!! I had the cod and shrimp plate. The cod was like a wet napkin. The fried coating fell off and was greasy and not crisp. The fries were luke warm at best. They also managed to get the order wrong. I ordered the mac and cheese. They sent out a baked potato instead. They eventually switched out the potato for my mac and cheese. Bad mistake. The macaroni was basically orange colored noodles. Not creamy and no seasoning. We made our concerns noted with our server and left underwhelmed. We definitely will not be back to this place. read more

I know this is a chain, but I hadn't been to it before I came down here to move back into SIU. We were staying at a hotel in Marion and this was open pretty late and was close by, so we opted for this. It was a really solid choice. The place was packed, but we were seated right away. The decor is nice, and the place was lively without being too loud. We started off with drinks, that we all enjoyed. There were free rolls that were absolutely delicious. We then started out with an appetizer, the tater tot fondue ($7.99). It was so good. How often does one eat tater tots as an adult? It was a big portion of tater tots served with cheddar cheese sauce topped with bacon, green onions, and sour cream. They were a bit hard to eat, because it is very hard to keep a cheese-coated tot on a stick, as it turns out, but it was delicious. It's bacon, cheese and tots- what's not to like. As my entree, I got their "famous" chicken tenders dinner ($10.99). This comes with two sides. I opted for the bacon smashed potatoes and a cup of overloaded potato soup. I swear, I ate more cheese, bacon and potato this meal than is holy but it was delicious. The chicken tenders really were good. The potatoes were a bit thick and gummy, but had good flavor. The soup was a little salty but there was SO much bacon in it that I didn't care. This is a solid place in the same vein as Chili's or Applebee's, but with a better menu. The only reason this review is three stars is the service. While our waitress was very sweet, service was really slow. She was clearly busting her tail, but she was too busy. All the tables suffered. This wasn't helped at all by the table behind us who kept complaining about EVERYTHING and sending everything back. It wasn't the waitress's fault that she was ran so ragged, but it did make our evening drag on nonetheless. read more

So much better than Chili's and Applebees's!! From the outside of this place, it looks very grungy, but I made it my personal goal to try all the restaurants in Southern Illinois before I move. The restaurant was so much better than I thought it would be. The complimentary bread was extremely soft and light (so much better than Olive Garden breadsticks). The twisted chips were crispy and not oily at all. Way better than Harry Caray's. The NY pizza pasta tasted exactly like a pizza. EXACTLY. I like it at first, but the pasta was a little overcooked and there was not enough sauce. The brownie dessert was delicious and sweet and comes in two different sizes. I am definitely coming back because the prices are the same as Chili's, but the quality and selection of food is so much better! read more

Excellent!!! Wonderfully attentive service, burgers were fantastic, smoky grill char on the outside, a perfect medium on the inside. Seriously, if you didn't know better you might think they were cooked on a BBQ grill. The buns were toasted perfectly and the bacon was crisp. Exactly how we like our bacon cheese burgers served with a nice amount of crispy crunchy French fries. BONUS, it was burger week so only $5 each for burger with fries ! We had one little issue with the silverware not being clean but the manager came out immediately and apologize and reviewed what is supposed to happen with the roll ups (polishing silverware for water spots) and he promised to provide coaching to both the dish and bus staff. read more

Server came up with the bill and I paid cash that I had folded up in my wallet I accidentally handed her $200 rather than just $100 bill... rather than being honest she decided to keep the extra $100 on top of our rather reasonable $20 tip on an 80 something dollar bill! Realize what happened 180 mile away the next day when we stopped for lunch and I wanted to pay cash! Had an awesome dinner here tonight. I had The Salmon on a cedar plank with garlic butter spread, our waitress recommended it and she was right, it was off the charts good. My daughter had a combo plate of steak and chicken but her steak was seriously undercooked, but she loved the taste of everything. Their potato soup was yummy. We ordered a slice of their Carmel pie. The pie crust is exceptional and the filling was good, but it was too sweet and rich after a few bites you had enough. The highlight of our dinner tonight was our waitress Briea top notch professional. She knew the menu, she knew how the food tasted and had little tricks up her sleeve that made our meals even better. Service was fine. We made the mistake of eating around 2 pm, outside of peak dining hours. DH had cheese and potato soup. Notice which comes first. It wasn't potato soup. Very gummy. His club sandwich was ok. I had an almost frozen green salad. I ate half but it hadn't warmed up to a reasonable temperature by the time we left. I don't understand why O'Charley's insists on keeping salads just a degree or two above freezing. Half frozen salads do not taste good. Then I had chicken tenders. I guess from their dark brown appearance, overly crisp texture, and dry overcooked chicken that they had been sitting under a heat lamp and thrown back in the fryer to warm up. The baked potato had been over cooked under a heat lamp and the butter had been under so long it separated when I tried to mash it in the potato. I ate one bite and decided it wasn't worth it. On a positive note, I did not ingest as many calories as I would have with a better prepared meal. Ordinarily, O'Charlie's is a decent place to eat. Oh the rolls! That's the main reason to go here. Don't worry about getting full on them before your entree arrives... it's worth it, ha. You can always take the leftovers home with you (or hey, take some of the rolls with you, too). I hadn't been to one in years, but recently tried the one in Marion and was quite pleased. The steak was cooked perfectly (picture added) and our server was awesome. She checked back frequently and took care of our requests quickly. I'm gonna give this place 4 stars. However they cooked my husbands shrimp wrong. My husband talks to the manager. It was bad with our waitress. However the manager more than made up for it. Polite, kind, and thoughtful. We got stuck with the same waitress after she had been talked to. That was uncomfortable because she acted very uncomfortable. Just awkward. Good food (once shrimp was remade). Loved fried pickles. UPDATE: So originally I gave this restaurant 4 stars. Well, since then we have been back a few times. Here's what's happened. First visit after above , I get a hair in my food. Second visit, appetizers came WITH our entrees. Third visit, waitress forgets to put in our appetizer all together. I love your fried green tomatoes, and my husband loves your Cajun pasta. For the love of God, get it together people! Every Time something happens you are very apologetic. No worries, I ordered the Chicken Pot Pie and ate every bite! This is a perfect dish for colder weather. If you put O'Charleys, Applebees, and Chilis in a magical room where you could do a blind taste test and and restaurant experience, they would be entirely indistinguishable. The three places are, quite literally, the same. This place suffers from the "jack of all trades" problem. They do a little bit of everything OK, but don't do anything well. You'll have a solid meal here, but it won't be particularly good (or bad). They have a few beers, but not a great selection. For any particular type of food, they have a few things, but not a great selection. It's really hard to describe consistent "OK" experiences. It is what it is - OK. read more

Chicken breast meat, veggies and a creamy, flavorful gravy complete the dish. The salad was crisp, cold and fresh.
