Used to be one of our favorite spots, would spend several hundred & here per year with large family events, but after learning they "don't accept homeless people" even after there food is being fully paid for, and the people are highly respectful, dressed decently, looking like normal people, were denied service and food unless they wanted to "pay 8.50 a lb for Togo food" knowing that's basically robbery with how much the food weighs. I will never eat here again or any of my several family members from hickory. Quite a bit of things like chicken nuggets, fries, mozzarella sticks, and other kid friendly options, several seafood options, sushi bar, hibachi bar, and dessert bar. $60 for 2 adults and a child but we realized they charge adult price for our 9 year old but when I pointed it out they gave us some ones back which was ok we added it to the tip, but be sure to watch your tickets. Its usually pretty crowded so if you have anxiety its not fun. I was put off by how dirty the bathroom has been several times we've gone its down right nasty. Its like 16.00+ for admission to the buffet plus drinks. The drinks are great they always keep you filled up on whatever you are drinking is this a place i would take my mom if she visited? NY Hibachi Buffet is slightly below average for a chinese buffet. The food was serviceable but it is very apparent that the restaurant is using cheaper cuts of meat (mostly different types of chicken dishes in different sauces) and that the seafood quality is below par. The mussles are small and unappetizing. The shrimp is rubbery. And the sushi is mostly rice. I'm a huge meat eater and my favorite thing in the buffet line was their green beans. The fact that they have General Tang's Chicken instead of General Tso's Chicken should have been a clear sign that the food is below par. Despite the negatives, there are some bright spots that include their fried dumplings, the freshness of their fruits, and like mentioned above, the green beans. The place was bustling which means that the locals enjoy this spot and that the food is appealing to some. Because of how busy it was, the food was always fresh and steaming. The wait staff was so so and the ambiance is the standard chinese buffet ambiance. If the prices were a little cheaper, I think this review would have been a little more forgiving. $14.99 plus $2.99 for drinks is steep for below average food. read more

Most of the dishes have too much sauce or too many carbs but it was possible to eat around most of it and still have a good meal. Sushi was pretty basic but it was fresh and it was tasty. There is a salad section (mostly untouched), desserts and a hibachi grill-to-order if that's something that appeals. Quality down, prices up. Have been going here for years. They keep jacking the prices up, now they charge a fee for credit card payment. The sushi selections have been reduced to phony rolls, no fish. The place is really worn down, booths are ripped and worn, the window blinds are busted and dirty (never been cleaned, food, splashes, grime). Most food was lukewarm at best. Egg rolls were soggy, not crisp. Have been here a number of times over the last couple months and there still remains a sign "no chocolate ice cream". Usually this place busy but today one whole side was empty. The usual staff wasn't there and I wonder if ownership changed hands. It obvious it winding down in quality, performance and customer satisfaction. Crossed NY Hibachi off our restaurant list. At last! A Chinese buffet where everything DOES NOT taste the same! We were in Hickory for a weekend basketball tournament and really didn't want to do the fast food thing. A friend said he had been to this buffet before and he liked it. Would a friend steer me wrong? When we walked it the first thing that hit me was how well-lit and spacious the restaurant was. We found a table and sat down. The server promptly came by and took our drink orders. So far, so good. I took a deep breath and prepared myself for similar looking dishes swimming in the same brown, gooey sauce. I approached the buffet with guarded anticipation. The size of the buffet is quite impressive. 6 tables brimming with a variety of delicious looking foods to choose from. 1) Kiddie bar including pizza, chicken nuggets, fries, etc. about 16 different items. 2) Salad bar. Loaded with options. 3, 4 and 5) approximately 40+ delicious Chinese foods to choose from. Nothing tastes the same and everything was very tasty. The hot and sour soup was very good. 6) Fruit and dessert bar. You won't be disappointed. The banana pudding was spot on! They also have the obligatory soft serve ice cream machine with vanilla and chocolate ice cream. Additionally, the hibachi grill is massive. You can choose from all sorts of vegetables and proteins (including shrimp) for the entertaining chef to cook up to fresh perfection. I never do this because I have a severe shellfish allergy and since they cooking everything on the same grill, eating this would mean an emergency room visit and Epipen stabbing but it looked wonderful. Lunch on Saturday, including drink was $9.99. Dinner is $3-4 more depending on what foods you choose. The restaurant was clean well-lit and the staff was friendly. The food was freshly prepared and well-seasoned. I have eaten at other places for similar prices and have walked away disappointed because I didn't feel the experience was worth the money. Not here. The food was good and there was plenty of it. The staff treated you well and were smiling and friendly. While buffets aren't for everything, you can opt to order off a menu if you know you don't have self-control . Come in here with a ravenous appetite and leave with a comforting glow in your belly. When we arrived approximately 3:30pm the hot bars barely had food on them, however they were filling some things as we were trying to get what they did have on the bar. Got what I wanted and sat down at the table and the other 2 guest that was with me told me that their food (all but the soup) was cold. So, I checked mine out and it also was cold. I went to the cashier and asked her to speak with the manager and she said the manager wasn't available and wanted to know how she could help me. I told her that the food on the bar was very limited and cold, and while I was telling her several employees came out with fresh food. So, she wanted me to show her what was cold and I did and by this time they just replaced most of what I put on my plate the first time. So I trashed what I originally got and started over. By this time it's about 4pm and she said that they put fresh food out at 4pm. Well, by this point my other guest had already lost their appetite and wanted to leave, as well as myself. The new food wasn't much better and our experience was one of the worst. I stated my feelings to the cashier once more and told her that we ate little to nothing and she should give some kind of discount. She said no discount if you want fresh food you should have come after 4pm. Then I said well this would be the last time I visit this establishment and she snatched my debit card from my hand and began running through there credit card machine. $45 for 3 ppl wasn't really a bad price if we were able to eat the food. So we left and went to Sam's Club down the road and 2 of us had to literally run to the bathroom to throw up. So, in my opinion we were just food poisoned and I'm now going to dispute my debit card charge and advise future guests to eat at your own risk. Not a Satisfying experience. read more

Okay so listen. I'll get into the cons first. Some of the food is clearly pretty old and inedible. Just due to the food getting too hard to bite through. The spring rolls had a very weird chemical taste. And it's hit or miss with some foods. But to be a buffet still running at this capacity with this many different foods is pretty impressive. They have a tray of literal McDonald's chicken nuggets which to me is insane because how did you get those?Trust me the taste is undeniably a McDonald's chicken nugget I was shocked. This buffet opened 2/8/2012. It is a Chinese/hibachi buffet. They have plenty to choose from and plenty of seating. I was told this place could seat 300+. I have been several times during lunch. Since the opening the place keeps getting busier and busier. They have a wide variety of Chinese dishes and a hibachi made-to-order grill to boot. I have not tried their hibachi grill, but it appears to be a hit. They have sushi on the buffet, with a person making it constantly. The sushi is good and fresh. The place is new and the owners are the same ones that own China Garden Buffet. I believe they are moving all operations to the new location soon, but don't know that for sure. The service is not top notch, but they are friendly and try their best to deal with the onslaught of hungry Chinese loving customers. Not a lot to say that you don't already know about Chinese Buffets. This one stands apart, because of the choices and freshness of food. Been here a few times when down visiting my parents. A really solid Chinese buffet option with lots of variety. In addition to the hibachi option, there are 4 banks of food in the buffet warmers, plus several meat/fish items over by the hibachi station and a nice selection of sushi. There's also 2 cold buffets with salad and fruit plus a selection of desserts over to one side. I usually head straight for the sushi. There's nothing really exotic. Most of the options involve crab stick as one of the ingredients. There are a few rolls with salmon or tuna, and usually at least one roll that has no fish at all - like a cucumber roll or something. Having polished off a plate of sushi - I then head back to the warm buffet and choose a few things from there. There are LOTS of seafood items available. I like the coconut shrimp, Singapore mei fun noodles, veggie spring rolls, and squid with peppers & onions the best. There are also several soups to be had (the egg drop is excellent). Another big favorite from the buffet - stuffed mushrooms that are filled with the same cream-cheesy stuff you find in Crab Rangoon. There's a few non-chinese dishes to be had. On my last visit these included baked ham, pizza, and fried frog's legs among others. The only areas I can't really speak to is the hibachi itself - though there seems to be a good selection of items you can have them get up - and the desserts. By the end of my meal I'm usually stuffed and lot for a little fruit and some soft-serve. Staff is exceptionally friendly and attentive. They keep the buffets well stocked with fresh items and anything you have a question about - just ask. Love too that not only are drink refills free (FYI they serve coke products), the staff keeps tabs on your table and will hustle over to see if you need to be topped off. read more

I personally thought it could be better. Stuff shrimp were stuffed with who knows what. They were hard & I had a small bone in the piece I tried..thought I broke a tooth for a minute. The chicken nuggets looked like they sat there forever. I'm not to keen on Chinese/Asian food because of the salt. The pizza was good. The plain shrimp were good. Sesame chicken was ok.
