Food came out quickly, hot and tasty. Tried old favorites, have not had in twenty years, very good. Waitstaff was extra attentive and checked on us, very pleasant. Ample places to sit and easy to find with close parking. Good value, portions were not large, but the right size for a good meal. read more

Food was great, can't believe that I had never been there before. We had a birthday meal there and they were very accommodating. We plan on going back soon! Not a lot of room for big groups but noticed a lot of people were taking it to go. read more

Great Food The Food Just Melts In Your Mouth The Drive Thru People Are Nice And Polite

Sesame chicken had way too much flour batter and barely any chicken. It was soggy, not crispy at all. The chicken wings were overly salty and tasted burnt, like they were cooked in old oil. On top of that, the cashier was rude. First and last time here. read more

Pretty good food - will go back again at some point. The staff was nice enough. Everything tasted pretty fresh.

Filthiest place I have ever been to! Go in and look at their floors and ceilings. I wouldn't feed their food to my dog. Just ate there and seriously feel like puking it out of me. Do not waste your money here. HORRIBLE!!!! Worst food I have ever had in my life. Place should be demolished. read more

The food is amazing and the service is amazing the atmosphere is amazing. It's just really good there. It is this amazingly great.

For 30 years I've been a patron at Hong Kong cafe. The food is great, recipes have never changed, and seemingly neither have the prices. I've moved well out of the area and upon visiting tonight I was immediately brought back to my youth. Best Chinese styled cuisine around, and great service...and the mustard is wonderfully spicy hot! Conveniently located in downtown hickory in union plaza, with plenty of street parking. Please support this local, long running establishment! read more

Ordered Chicken & Broccoli to go. Chicken was on the tough side. Rice was good. Service was good. Ambiance... The place appeared to need renovation. Inside looked old. It didn't feel or look clean, especially the bathroom. read more

Do not waste your time or money. Find another Chinese Restaurant and avoid the Habaichai which is about 10mins away.

For a small no frills Chinese you can't beat its food and prices. Convenient location downtown. Very friendly staff. Lo mien is excellent. Fresh ingredients and food is served very hot. read more

Lovely lady at the counter but nothing authentic about this flavor-less so called Chinese food.

Worst Chinese food I've ever eaten. Had to throw most of it away! The chicken was full of bones and grisel. Will never go back.

Chinese fast food at its finest. *Note, my review is a little biased, but don't brush this off! I came here with my parents because the owner is a long time family friend. Not only reconnecting with lost friends, we had an amazing and excellent time while dining here. The restaurant is surrounded by a town like feeling with the small street lights glowing upon the restaurant. In front there is a lounging area and walkway around the building. Upon walking in, a sense of family and unity washes the restaurant as swarms of high school students and families gather to eat their meals. With my family, we were prepared a feast. This is what we had: 1. Pan Fried Dumplings - Which were delicious. It also came with a sauce that had a little kick of heat to it, at the same time washed over with a bit of sweet and vinegary taste topped off with green onions. 2. Fried Wontons served with Sweet and Sour Sauce - these are wontons, lightly fried with cream cheese stuffed in the middle. It should remind eaters of a crab Rangoon, however it's just the cream cheese. These were also excellent. 3. Fried Chicken Wings - Pretty generic, nothing exciting. If you ever ate at a Chinese restaurant and had chicken wings, then you know this dish. However, I must say Hong Kong Cafe does do it a little different. I can't put a finger on it, but I enjoy their twist whatever it is. 4. Shrimp Lo Mein - I think this one is off the menu, however if asked they would probably make it. This dish is filled with green beans, shrimp, noodles, and even zucchini. Mixed in this dish is a little bit of heat, which gave this dish a little kick in my palate. 5. House Special Fried Rice - Finally for the last dish we had the fried rice. This came loaded with everything, note this is for three and I don't know the real amount per person. However, I know that it is loaded with all the meats and even shrimp. Nothing new, however I promise it will get you full. Overall, this place is great. I know nothing better in Hickory to go eat chinese food, and this place does it well. I will definitely come back here for another visit and taste. read more

I would say two stars but I guess technically I played a part. Ordered sweet and sour chicken. They toss theirs in the sauce, despite the picture inside of fried chicken with sweet and sour on the side. They were nice enough to redo that for me. I asked for it with pork fried rice which they said ok to. When I paid I was charged a pork fried rice platter and sweet and sour chicken meal. 16.00 for one dinner. It wouldn't have been so bad had I got the rice that traditionally came with the chicken but I didn't. All that to say when I got home and tried it the chicken tasted like the grease was old and the rice was not so impressive. Hope they do better they seem to be very well established and I was excited to try this place for a first time. Will likely not go back. read more

Hong Kong Cafe - Sesame Chicken - Chinese Near Me - Hickory, North Carolina

This is a cheap place to eat. It's nice and clean, comfortable and altogether pleasant. The server, who I think is also the owner, is a happy, chatty lady from Honkers, who clearly believes in providing good service. There is no booze license, so we ordered hot green tea. It was served in Styrofoam cups which matched the plates that contained our food. Still, as I said, it's cheap and good and definitely 'home-style'. I ordered wonton soup (in a styro cup) which was wonderful and was served with a matching plastic thpoon. I also ordered egg rolls which were not so good. But the vegetable lo mein which followed was sensational. My wife had chicken moo goo gai pan. It was also very good. It came with rice and an egg roll (rice-good, egg roll- yuk). However, all this came in at less than $20 and I have to say it's the best $20 I have spent on food in a darned long time. For a quick, later night nosh before hitting the hotel, it's a little Asian oasis adjacent to the best, boutique strip mall in the county. read more

Not good. Building is worn out. Cracked, water stained, acoustic ceiling tiles gives you an idea. Food was subpar, especially for a basic Chinese dish. The egg roll was old, as was the dry fried rice. Service was super slow. I have no idea how this place has 4 Yelp stars. read more

First impression from the outside was that this is in a nice little area where shops are. I drove a few minutes to get here. Second impression from inside was that it was messy. Cluttered with boxes visible to all. It was nice that I could see the kitchen, but overall inside was blah. Third impression of the staff: meh. I stepped to the counter and the lady had just picked up the phone, which I had no problem with. What I didn't like was when she hung up she simply said "yes." How about some customer service, but no biggie. THE FOOD: Definitely nothing to return over. The General Tso chicken looks and taste like it was it was a prepackaged product. VERY little chicken. It reminds of something you could buy frozen. The rice was not the kind of fried rice I expected and the dumplings were disappointingly small (see my photo). The dumplings were $5.95 and certainly not worth it, though they taste ok. The egg rolls are good. Overall impression: Nope buddy, not impressed. read more

Really enjoying my triple delight beef, chicken, and shrimp. The egg rolls were so crispy. They give you a lot to eat. I could not finish it all--will have my Mongolian beef tomorrow. I travel to Hickory a few times a month,, and one of my first stops is for the BEST CHINESE FOOD IN North Carolina ! ! The Sweet Sour Chicken is delish,,, and POT STICKERS are crazy good, Completely home made, NOT this frozen stuff so many reheat, this family makes the dough from scratch even ! ! ! (though you do have to ask for them they are NOT on the main menu ) She never fails to make it a fun night at the HK Cafe ! ! read more

I ate here Sunday evening with my boyfriend. I got the moo goo gai combination plate and he got the chicken and broccoli special. I'll agree that they have some of the best Chinese food I've ever had, but a few hours after we left, I started experiencing some abdominal pain and nausea. I don't want to write bad about the place because I love their food, but I'm pretty certain I have food poisoning. Me and my guy both do. I haven't felt the same since I ate there and I'm not sure if I'll ever go back. read more

This place is very unsanitary and the food tasted horrible And not only that .... I know for a fact the fry rice was really old .... They put lots of ginger to camouflage the horrible taste we are very disappointed ... because you're not cheap .... we always eat out ... and we know when is fresh food .... this was not fresh at all .... nasty so be careful with this place is not representing Chinese food the way is supposed to be it was a bad experience for me and my daughter We're never step in the restaurant ever again thank you read more

My favorite old-school Chinese place! Place your order at the counter. Peruse the handpainted menu board or the laminated to-go menu on the counter. (Ignore the generic picture lamp menu--it belongs in a strip mall.) Wait for your beverage, then seat yourself. Pam or Laura will bring your food to the table and keep your drink refilled. Best App: House Tray Hidden Treasure: Chinese Vegetable Soup Entrees include: Cashew Chicken, Vegetable Egg Foo Yung, Moo Goo Gai Pan, Shrimp with Broccoli Don't confuse your taste buds. Try the hot jasmine green tea, iced sweet tea, iced half & half tea, even the UNsweetened tea is good! If you must have a fizzy drink, they also have Coke and other Coke products. PS--It's all comfort food! read more

Freshly prepared and tasty Chinese food. I ordered the dinner special for less than $6. The portion was very generous. The Egg-drop soup was spot on! About as perfect as fast Chinese food can get. Seems to be popular with the locals. Highly recommended and conveniently located across the street from my favorite coffeehouse in Hickory "Taste Full Beans." read more

Never have I been steered so wrong by the other reviews. Even the 1/2 star reviews mentioned that the food was great. Not even close. Some steakhouses trump "melt in you mouth steak" but they are referring to taste not the actual texture. You are supposed to have to chew steak. Just in case you think I'm being hard on this place after one meal....true. However I ordered several things across the menu and would not recommend this place to anyone. Tasteless food smothered in greasy sauce that all could have been eaten without teeth. Can't comment on the condition of the restaurant because I did takeout but the receptionist was friendly. Nope. Not again. read more

Just did a take out from HongKong Cafe . My finally shock was one of the order I was order was given to someone else .
