Brazilian agate cabochon that I made in the Beginning Lapidary class
    Tyra H.

I attended the Beginning Lapidary class yesterday and loved it. Carly is a phenomenal instructor. She walked us through the process of cutting a calibrated cabochon from beginning to end and explained why things are done the way that they are so your end product will look amazing. I left with a fantastic cab and lots of knowledge to improve my skills at home. I'm lookin forward to taking more classes here! The shop itself is also pretty great! I could spend a whole afternoon inside just looking at all of the beautiful specimens!

Slabs for cheap! Some real hidden gems to be found in here.

This place is a Lake City gem. See what I did there? An actual gem and rock shop, not one of those stupid new age crystal shops. You walk inside and all your eye can see is rocks and stones. They have fossils and my favorite, the petrified poop! He offers precut gems and rocks of all shapes and sizes. There is a huge table with stone slabs where you can buy small to large stones slabs to make your own creation. Granite, tiger's eye, jasper and obsidian are just a few things you can find in bin. There are even cool little things like the purple glass from the sidewalks in downtown cut into gemstones. You can literally buy a piece of Seattle history to wear forever. I heard that when the Kingdome came down he did a few projects with the material. Just browse the cases of cool rocks from all over the world. Everywhere you look you'll see something that will catch your eye. Also check out the jewelry near the front by the register. They do host different levels of gem cutting classes if you are wanting to improve your gem cutting skills. There is a table are where you can work at near the filling cabinet full of rocks. Or if you're feeling confident you can drop a few grand into a machine and take your newly found hobby to the next level! Be sure and say hi to the shop dog. What a wonderful life to live!

Super cool shop full of all the minerals and gems you could hope for, with plenty of jewelry as well. Staff knows their rocks, and it was great seeing such a cool collection on display even if we didn't end up getting anything but the ring. Plus there's a fun resident dog who I always look forward to seeing on the stoop. I found the coolest Tanzanite ring that I wear every day. I actually didn't get it the first time I stopped in but couldn't stop thinking about it, so I went back a week later and wear it ever since!

Finished faceted quartz from the last class.

I love this store! They have an amazing selection of rocks and minerals at great prices. They also offer unique workshops and classes for cutting rocks, jewelry making, and more. I took a gem faceting class here recently and it was very fun! We learned to cut quartz with a gem faceting machine over the course of four weeks. The teacher was very helpful and attentive and I hope to take more classes here in the future.

    Lots of stuff to see!

This place is awesome. Great specimens, nice people, good prices. If it was closer, I'd be here all the time.

Ask the Community - NW Rockhounds

I have quartz crystals that I'd like to make into pendent necklaces. I think I want to try drilling holes into them with a small diamond drill bit, but I don't know where to start. Does NW Rockhounds have tools like this to use and/or rent?

I expressed interest in their lapidary and jewelry making classes, which are held in the upstairs area of their studio.

Tacoma was out but the sweet sales associates offered to order or call Seattle. I overheard them on the phone confirming various sizes. So I thanked them & drove up to Seattle. I noticed the Seattle location didn't have the sizes I was told, I asked the guy in charge of frames/ stretchers and he claimed I asked for one size then showed me a different brand from what was confirmed over the phone, a heavy duty variety. When I expressed frustration of being told the wrong thing, he walked off pouting, didn't offer to order any for me like Tacoma did. Not wanting to leave empty handed I grabbed a couple off sizes so I can work. On my way to check out, I informed my friend of what just occured and placed the stretchers at the register. The clerk said "You need to check out over there, Sir." My flabbers were gasted! My monocle popped out! I said "Sir? I'm not a sir!". This was strange and shocking to me. So I went to the proper clerk saying "They just called me Sir. What part of me gives man? I've never been called a man." So yeah I'm mad confused as to why my petite, adorable self in pink & lilac got called a man by someone who would not appreciate being misgendered themselves.... On Pride weekend of all times. And why wasn't I offered to have the supplies ordered for me like in Tacoma? Basically I received a wild goose chase, a bad attitude, lied to about what I overheard confirmed on the phone, and casually misgendered by Seattle staff. Very sad since I prefer supporting local. The Tacoma shop is a vibe with kind, helpful staff. I'll stick with them and Jerry's Art a Rama online. Apparently several reviews report bad behavior from staff over the past year or so. Don't need the funky ahh attitude when I just wanna create.

After I stammered out what we were asking, the shop owner asked what age or skill level we needed and then just started pulling kits of the shelf. "Got any cars, what about armour?
