I don't know what some of the reviews are talking about regarding the clerk. Maybe we dealt with different people! My experience was great. The guy was super nice, and even had his cute dog with him. Nice selection with good prices. I got a raw smokey quartz point, a carnelian tumble, and 2 other tumbles for about $8. What a deal. While taking the nearby underground tour, we passed this place. I bookmarked it IMMEDIATELY! There were so many types of rocks and geodes here, at all kinds of prices. From 3$ to thousands of dollars for the rare stuff. I spent 70$ in here, but could've easily bought way more. The prices were also a lot better than what I've seen at other places near home (SoCal) The shop was huge, and there were also entomintology displays for sale. Pieces of meteor were also for sale here :) The clerk was very nice, and knowlegeable. He said they've been around for 30 years, hope they're around for a lot more read more

Me likey dinosaurs. I don't know what it is, but anything related to archaeological finds are still fascinating to me even as an adult. When I was little and on a "dig" I remember being elated when I found a tortoise shell in my backyard--only to remember that it was my poor pet whom I had buried a few years earlier. I think I stopped digging in the yard after that. This place is a gem (sorry for the pun.) I spent a good hour just looking at all the interesting stuff they had: mammoth fur/tusk, 350 million year old Ammonites, petrified wood, geodes, and fossils of all kinds! Some stuff was as low as $4 and went up to the thousands, as you can imagine. The ancient crocodile skull was pretty amazing, as were the carved rock sheets that house squid-like creatures called Orthoceras. If you have a piece displayed in your house, it would surely be an interesting conversation starter! I am going back to pick up something for Father's Day, and to touch as much stuff as they'll allow me to without slapping my hand ;) If you are interested in fossils, rocks, and other interesting eye goodies, check this place out! My friend and I stopped in today after seeing the rain-gear clad duckies in the window and of course the Velociraptor really drew us in. Such a neat and quite beautiful shop. Prices seemed reasonable for their offerings and they had an interesting selection of items. Neither myself not my friend knew much about most of the items inside but we loved looking at everything. Wow was this store a find. I usually don't like wandering around Pioneer Square. To me, most of the food sucks and there just aren't a lot of stores I like. Too expensive or too touristy. But we passed by this particular shop and decided why not. First off, it's a geologist dream. Rocks, gems, fossils and all the like. Beautiful stones I've never heard of, sculptures, jewelry. Really just some exquisite pieces. What caught my eye though were the fossils. All sorts of prehistoric beauties at reasonable prices. And what sold me was megladon teeth. I have a shark obsession and have since I was a little girl. I dreamed of owning a megladon tooth and to hold a huge $1000 giant shark's tooth was incredible. I got a more affordable one and figure I'll just work my way up. Also they had tons of amber, diamonds don't do it for me, I'm a sucker for a nice piece of amber though. And they had some really nice pieces, all unique. Even some huge cuts with all sorts of pretty insects. What surprised me was that things were affordable. You could easily afford a unique gift for someone or something a little sophisticated for yourself. Very cool store and I know what I want for my birthday already! read more

Nice selection of gem stones at a great price. Picked up a couple of amethyst stones to make a necklace for mom.

This store was a delight, as was the owner. There was everything from beautiful $5 polished stones to museum-quality crystalline lamps and Earth relics. The owner was friendly and knowledgeable, and went to great links to safely wrap my large petrified wood turtle in tons of bubble wrap and send me off with a canvas bag with two strong straps. We also enjoyed a conversation about the ills of society and what our options are to serve in a meaningful and yet effective manner. All in all, a lovely experience. Highly recommend. read more

Pretty cool place - found some rocks I needed for peace and calm. But when I asked for a student discount, the owner/clerk told me that if I had a gucci belt on (which was fake) that I shouldn't need one. He made me feel pretty bad and he knew it because after I paid he said, sorry, didn't mean to pick on you. Maybe part of selling shouldn't be profiling people and saying mean things and making them feel bad for asking. read more

This place is fantastic. Do you love fossils? Quartz? Mystic crystal revelations (okay, I can only guarantee the crystal part of that one)? Then this is the place for you to go to get your fix of all of the above items and then some. I've never bought anything here yet but it's all reasonably priced and I will have to make an investment here very very soon. Tread carefully, they have some pieces here that are in the multiple-thousands of dollars price range. There's a reason this Pioneer Square gem closes early. I suspect it's the drunks. read more

After learning about the strong energies of crystals, I decided to visit Agate Designs. You enter the store, which is in the heart of downtown Seattle (expect to pay for parking down the street) and right away you are surrounded by enormous beautiful sparkling crystals. The owner, Mark was so helpful. I brought in a few crystals of my own and Mark looked up each one for me to tell me what kind of energies they emit. He helped me find multiple stones, and was not pushy or busy with anything else. Prices range from $4 for small stones and crystals, to $3,500 for some of the big guys! I highly suggest this shop if you are interested in crystals. It has been family owned for over 30 years and I bought a few that I absolutely love. read more

Occasionally my partner and I enjoy "playing tourist" and walking around downtown Seattle. We ended up noticing this place while walking through Pioneer Square. We both enjoy looking at rock and gem type stores (she does especially), so we couldn't resist a visit. Agate Designs is a store that's very fun to browse in. They have a very large selection of semi-precious stones, fossils, and items made from them, including jewelry and art pieces (including some huge slabs). The owner was friendly, but allowed us to browse without pressuring us to buy anything, which I always appreciate. Many of the items here were out of my price range, but they have a good selection that spans a wide range of prices, with plenty of small and affordable items. The owner also has a friendly dog :) If you enjoy these types of stores, then Agate Designs is definitely worth a visit. read more

If you like crystals and fossils, definitely check it out. The prices are good, considering the merchandise and the nature of the business--honestly, storefronts that specialize in non-wholesale crystals and fossils are never cheap. There are bins of inexpensive gemstones that cost a a couple bucks each, glass cases with more expensive specimens, gemstone jewelry in a wide price range, and gigantic display pieces that are awesome to look at but you probably aren't going to buy unless you are rich or a geologist. One warning: When I was there, some of the gems in the bins were either misplaced, mixed up, or mislabeled; and the employees working had no idea. If you want something out of one of the bins and actually care what type of stone you are getting, consult a book or someone who knows what they're doing (or do your research). read more

Everything in the store is beautifully arranged and you can tell that the quality is good. But the prices are much higher than the other stores in the region and the store clerk is not friendly at all. He was talking to another couple when we walked into the store and he seemed friendly enough. But after they left, he sat down behind the counter and I don't even think he acknowledged us. Maybe he said hi. Either way, he was seated and I'm pretty sure he was cutting his nails behind the counter (at least that's what it sounded like to me) and I was turned off. We bought a calcite for $10 (seriously, a piece of rock for $10 because I felt obligated to buy something and it's one of the cheaper items in the store). Not worth the hassle of finding parking to go to this store, at least for us. I still give it 3 stars though because if you're looking for something really nice for your house, I'm sure you can find it here. read more

Very unusual and reasonably priced stuff. Fossils! But artsy fossils... sound weird? I ended up buying a slab of Moroccan seabed rock with a school of squidlike creatures in it. They polish the fossils and they stand out in 3D and look like black waving grass until you look closer. Lots of cool weird stuff that you can afford. I wasn't sure what this place was from the outside, however, something in the window caught my eye that prompted me to go inside off the beaten path to my destination. I love polished stones. I've been a sucker for beautiful gems, stones, and minerals since I started my "rock collection" at about 8 years old. Sometimes I like to wander in this store just to look around, because there are just so many beautiful things to look at. It can be a bit dangerous though, as it's hard to leave without buying something! The owners are friendly, but also just kind of leave you alone, which I appreciate (can't stand being followed around or incessantly asked, "can I help you?") I'm a pretty bubbly person so I wasn't sure if the cashier(possible store owner?) was just a low-energy, laid-back personality, or I was picking up on something else? I was left alone enough, which I appreciated, often times (as a person who isn't White and wasn't super affluent appearing) folks have the tendency to follow me around and ask if I need "help". This wasn't that severe but I felt as thought the cashier felt bothered by me needing to be rung up?
