Archie McPhee's had been my go-to for gag gifts and miscellaneous watchamacallits for nearly 20 years. The store has the oddest assortment of stuff of any store I've ever been to. Best to come in with a "theme"--ours was pirate and boat stuff this time--and the staff will gladly point you in the right direction. (Great staff, BTW.) Yup, we found an assortment of things we could use. Or you can just buy their grab bag (more of a grab box) where they pick out a bunch of knick-knack gag gifts for you. Popped here at long last after passing it numerous times. One of those off the path, yet in your face attractions you check out whilst in Seattle. Archie McPhee is an oddity, novelty gift shop that has all sorts of quirky and "weird" toys, gags, decor and other gifts that ranges from silly and odd to practical...or perhaps practical jokes. A place you stop at for your April fool's gags, Halloween add-ons or party favors and collectible pez dispensers. Rember Pez? Some of the random things found within are as follows: Unicorn horns, & Elf Ears, vintage style lunch boxes, campy signs, Axolotl plushies, Birthday party supplies, masks and of course the Rubber chicken museum which is .... about what you'd expect. My middle school teacher and rubber chicken enthusiast would've love it here. (If you're reading this Mr. Kornhauser, check this place out). The staff are very nice here and its dog friendly which is part of what further prompted my visit. If you're looking for specific off beat toys, gags and gifts or similar this is the place to come. It's a fun little gift shop I always drive past on 45th with different little gimmicky or prank items you can buy. I took my girlfriend here for fun, and it was a nice little stroll around the store with lots of amusing items to look at. They also have a little "Rubber Chicken" museum inside, with a gigantic Rubber Chicken standing in the store as well. Almost more of a funky museum than a retail store (they actually do have a rubber chicken museum and a couple other display items, some of explicitly dubious authenticity.) You can, of course, purchase things, but the sheer uselessness and unnecessarily high prices of most of the merchandise emphasizes the fact that your not here to get something you need, your here to laugh at things you obviously don't. Items I've purchased here over the years include Possum flavored candy canes, a screaming figurine of the Scream painting, and "hypnotist glasses" which are just holographic paper spirals in glasses frames. It's random useless junk, but the curation shows a wacky internal logic and sense of humor that makes Archie McPhee a joy to visit time and again. read more

There's really nowhere quite like this store. Every novelty you could possibly think of and more is under this roof. Both Seattle specific and worldwide favorite gag gifts are available here. Every aisle is worth walking through as you'll smile or laugh with every turn. A great place to take a kid with ten dollars in their pocket to spend or to find something silly for the person who has everything. The staff is knowledgeable and just as quirky as you would expect. Been coming to this place for years even before it moved to the present location. Now I'm taking my grandson here for his first visit! Still the same fun place with all kinds of weird stuff and funky vibe. Can't begin to describe the things you can buy here- punching nun hand puppets anyone? Bigfoot cards? Little rubber ducks, plastic appendages? The staff is nice and look like they're having fun at work. Did I mention the rubber chicken museum? The only downside to this iconic store is the small parking lot. We went around couple of times before someone finally pulled out. Street parking is hard to find too. The whole family enjoyed our trip to Archie McPhee. It was a day when both teenagers were grumpy and getting on each others nerves. It was the perfect antidote for their moods! Awesome place to visit. This place really cheers you up with the craziest, unusual yet mostly hilarious things. I end up buying things I didn't know I needed! The rubber chicken fascination that Archie McPhee has is legendary along with the finger puppets, figurines, etc. There is always something new at this place. I usually bring my family when going here and we wander around oohhing and awwwwing and typically laughing. We always walk out of here with a smile on our faces. A true Seattle treasure! I've been wanting to go here for quite some time and when I finally got the chance to, it just didn't do it for me. The staff are friendly but the parking also could be an issue. Archie McPhee is a legend in the novelty tchotchke world. They're like the Yeti of stuff that you didn't know that you needed...When I was in Seattle it was a must to pay a pilgrimage and step foot in the world of wild, wack and weird...sounds like a poem by Ozzy Osbourne.... The building itself is famous for its wall of wacky murals which is a great place for photos to send for your next Christmas card to all the relatives that you secretly hate and wish that you could trap them in a Stephen King novel... I googled AM's history and it turned out the owner Mark Pahlow started out selling rubber lizards out of his house in LA and the name Archie McPhee is after the owner's wife's great uncle...you gotta love it! There are no rules for building an empire! I have good friends in the area and I always request stuff from here for holidays or birthdays...I love anything from here. One of my favorites are the grab bags that you can buy for $10 and you get a mixture of stuff from squirrel underwear to Antisocial note books to pocket rubber chickens.... you should always carry one so that you can tell the police that "we" were at home watching TV if you are ever asked where you were Wednesday night around 9PM when the neighbor down the street was murdered with a teapot from her cupboard. Archie McPhee is a store you have to visit if you're in Seattle. It's a giant gag store with odd knickknacks and odds and ends. I absolutely love stores like these. They have party supplies, miniature items, chemistry items (bottles, beakers, pipettes, goggles, etc), candy, and there's so much more. Going in, there's so much to look at and explore, it can get a little overwhelming. They also have a lot of rubber chicken items and have this tiny rubber chicken "museum". They also have the World's Largest Rubber Chicken that you can take a picture with. It's technically not rubber though. They used to have a photo booth and I miss it! But definitely come here to take a look at all the little funny gag gifts they have, I spent an hour in here looking for a birthday gift for a friend. Archie's lives up to the hype. I knew I was going to be in town for about a day and I had searched for many different things to do. Believe it or not, Archie Mcphee's was a top spot I wanted to stop in on my way day vacation in Seattle. To get there I drove through a retro neighborhood. The stores all seemed to be throwbacks, with neon lightning for many signs that reminded a person of chain restaurant signs from the 70's/80's. When I arrived and parked, I immediately knew I was in a fun oddball place. The walls by the parking lot were full of odd characters part animal, like a Dorothy from wizard of oz type character, with a ravens head. inside the place was strange and interesting as well. there was soooo many strange things. As I like to give gifts that are funny or different I found my shopping basket full of oddities pretty quick. I made some tough decisions, and put half the things back. But not before I checked out the rubber chicken museum. 'Nuff said. Archie's lived up to how great it would be. Just wished I could stop in more often. read more

7/5/19 Well this place has a number or fun things, I myself don't see any real use for most of this stuff. The staff I saw did not approach me and I did not approach them. Looking around, my wife saw the Chinese Horoscopes and bought 3 of them. If I am correct, the horoscopes says to never marry a rat....mom according to the horoscopes the rules have changed. Overall great store! purchased a mystery bag a while back and received "Punching Shakespeare" (pictured) in the bag. Excellent product, but was slightly disappointed when arm component broke after heavy usage. I was informed Shakespeare was not under warranty . A place for those people that miss the Spencer Gift days. But Archie McPhee has more of my favorite items. Those being army men type figures. So many cool and different varieties. My favorites I've found there are zombies and skeleton warriors. You have to visit frequently as they change up those figures depending on the different season of year.
