What a great store! I have seen it on my trips to the International District for years, but I have never been inside. I recently got into the Gundam hobby and thought it was time to check this store out. The interior is small but packed with stock, and a few very impressive display cases containing some great scale models. There were several other customers in the store and the owner/operator had a good report with all of them. He took time to talk with me and answer my questions and was very friendly and knowledgeable. I really appreciated his tips and advice. Hike the store is small it has a very good selection of model lines and models. It even had a few premium boxes which I was excited to see. Beyond the models there was also a very good selection of hobby tools paints and supplies. I will absolutely be coming back here and can't recommend it highly enough. read more

Awesome toy collector store right off the subway stop in ID. When I moved to Seattle I decided that I wanted to rekindle old hobbies of mine and building Gunpla is one of them. Thank god I found this little store. The service here is really great with the owner of the store being extremely knowledgeable on anything Gunpla related while not being overbearing on wanting to pressure customers into purchasing something. The variety of kit selection here speaks for itself. I think after 10 mins of perusing anyone would be able to find something that they would like. For a small locally owned shop the prices that are set for kits here are very fair too. As soon as moved to Seattle (I live on Mercer Island) I looked for my local hobby shop to supply my Gunpla hobby. Tom Dang's Int'l Model Toys is now my go-to shop. His shop contains anything a modeller would need to take a Gundam plastic model kit from box to shelf including tools, paints, solvents, decals, finishes, etc. It's a bit small but stocked to the ceiling in beautiful diorama displays and merch. What's more, he stocks tons of hard to find kits, which if you're lucky, you'll find what you've been searching for! I have been eyeing some PBandai kits for a year and so glad I waited to stumble upon them in a brick and mortar shop. Even better, the prices are very close to MSRP. I don't know how this is possible with a small shop in downtown Seattle but props to Tom. I would still gladly pay a premium to support the local business. In SoCal, I exclusively ordered my hobby supplies online and am so glad to support Tom's shop. He has been so incredibly helpful and friendly all the times I've visited in the past few months and I will continue to return for all my kits and supplies. read more

A hidden gem in Chinatown. This place is the perfect destination for Japanese pop culture. There were some impressive gundam statues on display as well as a huge Godzilla figure on top shelf. I spoke to the owner Tom and got a chance to appreciate the store more after hearing how much work he put into the models. Each model was meticulously assembled and painted. It looked like they won a few awards for their hard work. You can tell the shop was created as a passion, from someone who truly loved Japanese/anime culture. There were so many cool items and I wished I had money to grab them because in a few years, their value would be so high. For collectors, this is a must-visit toy shop. read more

Its a very small store. But they do have some pretty cool stocks. Or Gundam toys. I am not sure what is a good deal and what is not. As I don't usually buy Gundam kits. Came inside because the store really stood out in Chinatown. Its interesting how there is a very old grannie sitting inside the store. I guess she is also the owner. When you walk inside you really got to becareful because you can easily knock things done. I find the store fasinating. Did I end up buying anything. Unfortunately No. I did see two Korean end up purchasing to Gundam kit. I would consider this place as a guys hobby store. read more

Wow. Living in the midwest, I don't end up seeing many stores dedicated to one thing with a fairly narrow audience. Like the bubble tea place just down the block, this store is everything I could imagine a store for model toys to be. My husband was so excited! He walked in, looked around, talked to the people, got their card, and ogled at all the beautiful gundams etc. We came back the next day so he could buy something. I think my three star rating on this place is more because the kinds of toys I was looking for were not here. I am more interested in action figures and this place has more like models. The characters that are rendered plastic here have no bendable limbs or anything like that. If you are however into those kinds of things this place is great! Oh Yeah, this place allows my inner Nerd to come out. I had to pickup some supplies and the Gundam Fix Figuration 0040 Kyoshiro Maniax Red Warrior caught my eye so I bought it. The price is alittle high but I hate waiting so it was okay for me. The prices and the old lady wasn't very much help but I think the normal staff was probably sick or on pee break. This location is sandwich between Piece of Cake and Fuji Bakery in the ID. No parking but I just park in the 3 min zone because I knew what I needed to buy today. This is a terrific hobby shop! They have a giant selection of Gundam kits, other mecha kits and action figures from around the world, though mostly from Japan. they also have a huge selection of Tamiya paints and supplies and Gundam Markers. I met Bruno and he was very friendly and helpful with different techniques. Their prices are about $10 more then they need to be but I was very pleased with what I saw. Their displays are immaculate! Wandered the International District and stopped in International Model Toys earlier this afternoon with the kiddo. Pink Gorilla was closed and nothing that stood out at Kinokuniya, so it was a score to wander in. Kind of a squeeze since there several others also with the same mindset. Taking a stroll through the International District, we were fairly surprised we didn't see more comics/anime shops and stopped into this one after the figures in the window caught our eye (particularly the pink-costumed Chun Li kicking really high with her well-muscled legs). It's a small shop -- just a tad bigger than an end-cap booth at an anime con -- existing in the shadow of the historical Chinatown gate, but there's lots to see, neatly displayed. If you're into putting together Gundam figures, this is your hot spot in Seattle. We were greeted on entry and found the staff -- consisting mostly of 20-something-year-old guys -- quite friendly. read more

What's up with the lack of understand in these reviews. The guy is running a shop and a super cool one, not an interior design business. This place has an awesome collection of resin kits, vinyls, cosplay-type loot, cool little anime and video game referencing collectibles, and t-shirts in one little store. Lots of gundam models, some quirky random toys (like a funassyi model ahaha) and some figures, definitely check this place out if you're a collector! A lot of the stuff here is quite pricey but they have a small bin of keychains for cheap (they look kind of bootleg though but you get what you pay for!) The shop is quite small and is next to a cake shop but the staff let you walk around without staring or pressuring you to leave or buy something-which I really appreciate! It's not a large shop, so the capacity is small, but it's full of hobby goodies. They mainly have Japanese figures and anime/manga accessories. They also have paints and posters. This place always has something my husband wants and/or needs for his gundam/macross/whatever the heck he's building collection. When the owner of the shop is running the joint, you're in for a pleasant shopping experience. HOWEVER...I have had a few weird experiences here: 1) What time does this place open? I'm not quite sure. The sign on the door says they open at 11:30 on Sundays. Hmmm....then why is it that they're never open until well after 12:00? I think the open and close times posted on the door are just suggestions as to when they might open up. I don't know...it's happened more than once that they were supposed to be open and they weren't. Oh well. 2) One time my husband and I were there and the clerk guy (not the owner) was on the phone with his significant other fighting very loudly. It was rather amusing, but the "f-this, f-that, you f-ing bitch" conversation got a little old. I really don't care to hear about how your girlfriend cheated on you or how you can't trust her. Break up and run the damn shop already! Overall, though, this place has a good selection of anime stuff and they once sold a messenger bad that said Hentai Inside that made me smile. Very nice gunpla shop. Tom has some amazing diorama and model building skills. Not only was there a large selection of kits but some good master grades which have been low stock in most shops. The shop has good prices compared to large businesses. He had some good recommendations about model building. I will definitely be coming back here for my future model needs. read more

Go there. Drop a few hundred on one of their Gundams, only to find out that you need an advanced degree from MIT or the unquenchable curiosity and determination of a 7-year-old to build it. Weep bitterly at your own inadequacy. Then go back and buy that huge Godzilla model because I'm too afraid to even look at the price and, hey, somebody *has* to buy that thing! It's ossum! Since a friend of ours is a lover of all things Japanese, plus loves comics, anime, etc., we figured this might be a great shop to check out and see if we could pick up some stuff for him. The shop is tiny, but filled with a lot of stuff. I couldn't comment on the quality of the offerings, since it's not my area of expertise. Service was...nonexistent. An older lady was the only employee, who didn't even barely grunt a hello to us. Her 2 children (or grandchildren? or nieces/nephews?) were the only other people in the store. The girl entertaining herself on the computer, and the boy pretending to be....something...growling and stomping around. We didn't find anything that struck our eye as being ideal for our friend, but it's definitely worth a shot. read more

Pretty good selection of model kits and anime figures. The displays are well organized compared to other hobby stores. The staff can be surprisingly unfriendly and rude, though. I think I'll stick to Kick's Hobby instead since that's closer to where I live anyway. read more

I've been shopping here since I was a Teenager. Now as a Dad my kids are enjoying spending time at this store. Even if you don't purchase a model kit, if you stop by the owner Tom will be more than happy to give you tips on model building. This shop has been around for ages (not the whole time at the current location). IMT does have a great collection of import model kits but don't think of it as a hobby shop. They have a decent collection of Tamiya paints & sprays and a few tools but their kit collection is strong. Pricing is a bit high, even for imports. But if you want a certain model right a way, or just hate to wait for mail order this is the place. Last few times I've gone in there has been a guy behind the counter that is clearly a knowledgeable modeler and has been very willing to answer questions and give tips. I would rate him 5 stars on his own if I could. Great selection but loses a few stars for high pricing. read more

I go here once and awhile to pick up paints and other supplies. Occasionally I'll grab a model kit that grabs my eye. Just called the store asking to see if they sell any model size samurai helmets. The woman who answered the phone had a strong asian accent. I'm half Japanese btw and my mother has an accent, but I still couldn't understand her mumbling the name of the store when she answered. I was walking around Chinatown and ran into this place. I just wanted to look at their merch and I wasn't on planning on buying anything because sometimes these stores are overpriced and the store owner annoyingly stares at you. The prices are normal just like any hobby store, but the person behind the counter, Bruno, was super nice and helpful. I only purchased items because he was very friendly. He is willing to give you artistic tips and techniques for painting, modeling, and sketching. The prices might be more expensive and I'm sure you can probably get things online cheaper, but the experience at the store was excellent and I would definitely recommend this place to others interested in model figures. read more
