This store is packed with super fun hobby products as well as a ton of small fidget items and squishy toys. Paul is very helpful and friendly and is always kind when the kids ask so many questions! My friend Devin recommended me going into the store to check out the RC cars and WOW...it is so fun! They have an indoor track and they even let me bring my doggie in when it was too hot outside to leave him in the car! Overall, great fun place to pick up toys, RC cars, and even more for the serious hobbyist! Pretty good place. Always fun to browse through a good hobby space. Good variety of hobbies represented here. The selection could be a little larger; seems they take up a lot of their usable space with their car racing track which limits room for other items. Staff seems alert and eager to please. Parking is fairly easy as they are in a major shopping center, though they are located on a street that Redmond Town center closed off for pedestrian traffic (for pedestrian safety) so you have to walk about a block from the parking areas. I've had nothing not positive interactions at this store. The new location is HUGE and looks super inviting and fun for people of all ages. This is where I buy specialty paints and hard to find materials and supplies. The staff is knowledgeable and kind, willing to help pick out the best paint for the job/material I'm working with. The prices are average and probably more expensive than ordering from someplace like Amazon, but remember, if you don't shop local soon you'll only be able to shop online. Horrible customer service. I went to buy a rc plane for my son. The picture on package was deceptive. We asked the checkout staff if the plane was suitable for flying outdoors and was told that it was. We opened the box in the car and realized that the plane was no bigger than a drone and too small and cheaply made to fly outdoors. Came back to the store within 15 min to exchange for something bigger . Another member of the staff opened the package and mentioned that some parts were missing in a very rude and aggressive tone. I said that a bag containing the missing parts might have been left in the car and went back to check the car . This staff member became increasingly rude and said that he cannot sell this package to anyone because it had been opened. I got the missing parts from the car and he reluctantly put the parts back into package. It felt like he was just looking for an excuse to not refund/ exchange. After some back and forth he reluctantly agreed to exchange but by that time we did not want to buy anything else in this store. We got our refund processed and ended up ordering a plane on Amazon. read more

I think I bought my first HPI kit here in 2001. I had it assembled, barely drove it and put it in a box. Took it out in 2018 and had some questions and came back here and Tom helped me out. Terrible place! Stay away!! I bought a Xmas gift for my grandson who had gotten a 3d printer. Since the 3d printer was new to him I was unsure about getting the painter. I was told no problem, he could return. Not true!!! We went to return it - the box had never been opened!!- and they refused to refund or give store credit. The man was dismissive and rude. We got my son a 3D printer for Christmas. My 75 year old mom wanted to get him an airbrush to go with it. We talked to the Redmond, WA Hobby Town. The gentleman there convinced my mom to get the $214 airbrush. I explained that my son was new at 3D printing and didn't need one that big. He worked hard at selling the big one to my mom. He assured us that we could return it and at least get store edit at any point. So my mom bought it. My son finally got it up and running towards the end of January and he is positive he doesn't want an airbrush. So we brought it back today asking for store credit. We were hoping to get filament and spray paint.. We were firmly told the 14 day policy holds and there would be zero wiggle room. It is unopened and we have receipt. The man was unbending and rude. They had a good selection and variety of hobby items, although not fully stocked to some others I've been to pre pandemic, I can't really hit them for it, due to shortages and shipping. 0 Customer Service. Bought a Traxxas 1:18 scale Defender crawler last night. As soon as I took it out of the box, the steering servo was out of commission. I called Hobby Town for an exchange, and they told me they do not have an exchange or return policy on opened items but that I could call Traxxas directly for any warranties. This is like buying a Samsung TV from Costco and discovering that the speakers are toast, but Costco tells you to call Samsung yourself. Hobby Town = Once the transaction is done, they are done with you. So why would I ever buy anything new from these guys directly? read more

Was so stoked to find a hobby shop so nearby... and that's about where the pros end. The poor overall score/reviews should have been a tip-off. First off, the store is pretty small which okay maybe they can't help it - but then to top it off, there's just not a lot there. Second, the staff is pretty standoffish and quite frankly a bit snobby. If you don't come across as a hardcore hobbyist they just don't seem interested in speaking. Third - BUYER BE WARE: you can't return or exchange anything unless it's in the SEALED original package so heaven help you if you open it and find it's broken because they will NOT help you - even within the first 14 days of purchase. Absolutely no interest in helping customers. We will never step foot in there again. (And I'm sure they'll be thrilled about it lol) read more

I couldnt agree more with many of the other reviewers. This store is marginal at best. Their inventory is pathetic. I went in for a simple 9g replacement servo, one of the most common parts there is that fails and needs replacements quite often, and they had none...come on guys. This is probably the 10th time I've gone in there to find some common item and found no help. Its not like they cant order online from a different suppliers and double the price (which they arent shy about doing) The staff is worse than off-putting. If you arent looking to spend hundreds they cant be bothered to help you. Super snobby, and condescending about a hobby that is extremely complex. I brought in my son's remote control car which had been bought of Amazon. When I asked the person behind the counter if they could fix the remote (which had stopped working) he was really condescending, telling me it was proprietary as many of these "toy grade" are. Even when my husband said it was listed as hobby grade, the guy said, "yeah they will say anything to sell a product. I totally get that we didn't buy it there but I was looking to spend money locally to have it repaired. There was no effort to provide more information, what could possibly be wrong with it, or even offering to show us what they might have that could be comparable if we wished to replace it. Hobby Town USA always has useful stuff for crafters and hobbyists! Whether you're into board games, Star Trek models, or just need a good knickknack after one too many snow days, they're here for that! We found that they had a really good modern game selection, at super reasonable prices! We spent half an hour waiting here and shopping looking through what they had while waiting for Haiku to open across the street. :) My husband and I didn't end up getting anything, but our friend found several small things he needed for a project! read more

Employees are not very helpful. I went in to buy paint. The racks of paint mostly have no price labels. I asked the guy at the counter what they cost, he put it down next to the register and went and did something else, talking to another customer about cars, nothing to do with a price check. Then he came back and said he didn't know, he guessed they were "probably 3 to 5 dollars". Not quite happy with the answer, but I'd already come out to the store, I bought 6 paints, they were actually about $6.50 each. Do they not have a way to check prices or did he just not care to? It's hit or miss depending on the employee you get, I have had both ok and good but never great service here. Yet, nonetheless I manage to spent a good amount of money here. I've shopped here simply because It's closer to me and I believe in supporting local hobby shops so it's an easy stop but both this and the Everett location have no RC repair or solder ability onsite. Also the Everett location is much friendlier... different franchise owners- but If I need repairs I'll make the trek to RC hobbies in Covington or J&S hobbies in Marysville for much more patient and knowledgeable service. read more

Went to the Redmond, WA store with my son who was interested in an traxxas RC car but needed some help and advice navigating thru the options. So, I'd imagine that the "helpful store" would at least show some interest on helping out a kid and potential long term customer. One guy said he didn't know much about these cars and pointed me to person-B at the store. Person-B couldn't be bothered with answering questions and seemed almost annoyed that we were asking questions. He gave short gruff advice that amounted to 'you need to know what you are looking for - he delivered the minimum wtih a hint of attitide. Later (and this was annoying), the original person-A was full of knowledge answering all kinds of questions about the same RC cars for another set of young adult customers. The same guy who told me he didn't know much about the cars. There were maybe 4-5 customers in the store at the time and it's not like they were being sought out by many customers. Update: Went on a different day to RC Hobbies in Covington and had a remarkably friendly & more fruitful experience and bought an awesome RC car. They encouraged kids, were friendly and offer help and advice to kids who need to fix their RC cars in the future. read more

Shitty customer service. By far the worst hobby shop. I had them put in a new spur gear because mine stripped and they noticed some rubbing inside. They told me I might have to fix some things because the spur gear wasn't sitting right. Once he put it it he said that it should be fine. I then took it out for a drive and it stripped almost instantly. I called them and asked what they can do and one of the employees not the manager did not want to work with me. For a 7$ part. Don't work on cars if you won't take responsibility for it. Takwuwilla locations seems like they know what they're doing because they won't work on cars in store for that reason. Franchise stores like these are downright shit.***waited to go in to see if they could help again before I posted this but the manager instantly started interrogating me like I'm the one who put in the part in. Completely rude, he got in my face and told me "well the service was free why are you mad?". They literally put in the part wrong and blamed me. Final say, they don't know what they're doing so don't go there if you want the worst experience. *update pt.2* My friend was with me when I went in to talk to the manager earlier today. I had to buy another spur gear (metal this time) and my buddy bought an arm for his senton. ASKED MULTIPLE TIMES IF ITS FOR THE RIGHT MODEL! Manager said yes. Went home, helped my friend put it on turns out it's for the newer models. You seriously can't trust these people. They do not give a shit not do they know what the fuck they're talking about. Keep your expectations extra low and you'll do fine when trying to deal with this location. My first experience here was when I came in and asked the guy behind the counter if they stocked the Losi 5ive-T.... Not missing a beat, the reply I got was (in a snippy tone) "what would you want that for? You can't even run it around here" ... Mind you, this is a $1500 5th scale SCT and where I would run it isn't even an issue... One would think there would have been some follow up questions but that was all there was... Needless to say, I just left shaking my head... On a different occasion I had called in with a simple stock question regarding a lipo connector. I was immediately put on hold. Gave up after 10 minutes of silence and called back. He then tried the same again and when I declined, spent more time telling me how he couldn't help me than it would have taken to ask what my question was and answer it. I have visited the Everett and Tukwila locations and the experience there was night and day different. The folks there were very helpful and offered extra information and product knowledge... If there was another hobby shop on the east side I wouldn't step foot in this store at all... Sad that a business only has customers shopping there because they lack other options and not because they actually want to go there.... read more

I've been in an out of this shop for years. I really appreciate that knowledgeable staff, and the fact that they are in Redmond, and the fact that I can support local businesses. But, my recent experience has forced me to evaluate the value of buying local. I just bought an Apprentice trainer airplane to fly with my kids. It is 1 week old. I had pre-charged the battery and got it working, and then turned the switch on the plane to "OFF". Unfortunately, the battery appears to be dead. I was told by the staff at HobbyTown USA that I killed the battery because I left it plugged in, even though switch is off. They also pointed out to me that in the long list of pre-cautions in the manual there is a bullet pointing out that one should unplug batteries when done using. I clearly did not do that. So, I can totally understand that I may have killed the battery. But, the instructions did not state that by leaving the battery connected to the plane when the switch is in the office position that the result will be the loss of a $60 battery. I asked Hobbytown to warranty the battery. The said they would not do that. They also did not offer to let me buy a new battery at any kind of reduced rate. I go to a local store to have someone help me when I have issues, and most of the time I end up paying full retail for that service. I am very disappointed that they did not offer to confirm that the battery was indeed dead, did not offer to take care of it for me, and did not offer me any discount on replacing the battery. I'm disappointed that the service was so poor in my local shop - a shop that I have visited quite a bit, having purchased multiple airplane, helicopters, and r/c cars. I read more

These guys are AWESOME!! They have kazillions of those lil hard to find parts, AND ALL THE NEWEST STUFF! The selection is amazing!! I'm a guy with mostly Truggys and Buggy's but I also have a few boats, planes, and crawlers!! These guys have it ALL! Not just the different stuff ready to go straight out of the box, but all the lil pieces that may break along the way. AND YOU DONT HAVE TO WAIT FOR A WEEK TO COME IN THE MAIL!!! The customer servce, well what customer service? My girlfriend and I went in around mothers day and I wanted a drone. there was no customer service at all. Its not like it was packed with people so we kinda chaulked it up to "one of those days". Fast forward to 7-25-2015 and I went in looking for drone landing gear and found some landing gear I thought may work. Mind you this is NOT western Washington's premier drone destination, and I asked if the landing gear would work with my Nova drone. Rather then the guy behind the counter even using any type of technology to find out my question, he said " no, ive never heard of that drone." Im sure because he has never heard of it then he must be right? Right? My girlfriend has no patience for lazy people and we went to Amazon and got what I needed. Prices are a bit high imho, but its nice to have a brick and mortar hobby store to goto in the area. They have a great selection and the staff seems nice enough and knowledgable. You can find everything from educational science kits, to static models, to advanced car/plane/heli/tank/boat RC, to slot cars and trains. Update: I just took a chance on Hobbytown, 'cause I needed paint and didn't want to head across the Sound. This place has significantly improved... The remodel that seems to have been in progress for ages is nearly done; things are far more organized, with more room to walk around, and the paint racks were stocked and in clear view! The staff were friendly as well. They're still building their stocks of plastic kits back up, but I will definitely be coming back here... I liked this store! It didn't have a whole lot of selection...and it was kinda small, but my husband bought everything he needed to buy his model and we even got something small for our son! They have cool stuff and the employees are super nice and friendly :) This store is definitely geared more towards "male" hobbies, like building models and stuff...which is good, but if you were expecting to find craft-type stuff, this is not the place. read more

I've been in an out of this shop for 2 years and only bought small things for kids, staff did not seem to be very helpful or interested in casual shoppers or shoppers that would not spend big money on models. Then i decided to buy something more substantial. But, my recent experience has put me totally away. I just bought an entry level flying machine to fly with my kids. I had pre-charged the battery and got it working, and then it turned off all of a sudden, and did not respond after that, LIKE it went dead. Then it would not start at all, i tried everything, reseting, linking, etc. The battery charger was flashing and i had eliminated the battery from being a problem. I brought it back to check it with my kids along, from the start they questions everything I was telling them and getting an attitude from the start as a tactic. A junior member of their staff in Redmond, tried to convice me that my story was not true, and lead me to say that I killed the battery and there was no other explanation. Even thought their own batteries and specs are not up to consistent models. They also pointed out a bullet points in the manual i had (not directly related to the problem) well as a series of statements that can only lead to arguing and conflict, which I had restrained from responding, since being a scientist but mostly a father, i did not find really convincing, and productive towards a resolution. This was a 5 dollar part, and they did not immediately offer any resolution, only more attitude about how they know things better. When I offered them a satisfactory resolution , they even tried (probably not intentionally) to short change me and when they realized it, they did not respond to this in any reasonable way. I'm disappointed that the service was so poor in my local shop - I would rather buy things only from now on or go to a larger store in another city. What a waste of time in that experience, I would like this store to improve or hire and train better people. read more
