The owner was incredibly kind and opened the glass doors of display cases for me to take a closer look at things, which lead me to purchasing the two beauties below. At purchase, I asked him to write down the names and origins on the back of my receipt so I wouldn't somehow forget their respective info. Their prices were high for someone on my budget, but at least I knew they weren't grown in a lab. You could tell the owner is truly passionate about procuring stones and sharing his love of them--I felt like I had really delighted him by obtaining these "treasures" from his collection and adding them to my own. :)

Subsequently, I lost some interest since I don't live nearby. While I was in Ballard on a recent Sunday, I rushed to the market to see if it was still open. Officially, it was not; they closed at 2pm. But they were still packing up. I believe they are not allowed to sell after the official closing time; I asked one vendor, they declined. The staff wants the streets to reopen as soon as possible. As I walked the two blocks, several vendors still have some items on display on their tables. With a bit of wink, wink, accidentally dropping cash on the table and accidentally taking things off the table, I walked away with goodies. I won't say what I bought to avoid anyone getting into trouble. Street parking was easy enough nearby on a Sunday.

Went to the help desk, asked about specific plants. The staff person just pointed and said, "go in there" to the greenhouse. Went there, was told, we just sell houseplants in here, go outside through the automatic doors". Went outside, no one, not one person out there. We walked around for a bit, still no one. Gave up and decided we could find help online and at another nursery. The coffee shop. Great idea, poorly managed. Saw some senior group had taken all but two tables and a couple of chairs for their get together. I found two chairs against the wall for my mom and I, but no tables. Made our order, sandwich and egg bites- they are brought in prepackaged from an outside company. I had to walk back and forth from my chair to the coffee counter to check on our drinks and warmed up sandwiches. After 20 minutes, have one drink and cold sandwiches. Had to go back since they forgot a drink. We ate a few bites of our sandwiches- threw away the rest. No more interest in getting the order right. Also saw one of the staff people counting out cash onto the counter next to the coffee machine. Cash and coin I believe should not be placed on counter space next to food or drink prep?

I've been coming here since I was a kid exploring when they first opened in Edmonds. Since then the quality has only gone up. The owner is the sweetest lady you'll meet and the jewelry is dangerously addictive. This is an amazing spot for consumers of all ages. The kids can look at the rock bin, sarcophagus, and the life size velociraptor that sits in the front window, while the adults can admire the beautiful rock specimens, high quality sterling silver jewelry, and other cool decorations scattered throughout the store. The atmosphere is happy and calming while you browse and the people working are always ready to help and chat with you about everything from the stones to the weather. Overall it's a fantastic place to spend some time at whether your down in Edmonds for the market, or just wandering and taking in the sights. read more

I expressed interest in their lapidary and jewelry making classes, which are held in the upstairs area of their studio. I was very pleased to find that this was a proper rock shop (none of that new age-y stuff) with truly passionate and knowledgeable owners who can tell you the origin and geological info of everything in their collection. It was clear to me that the owners care deeply about the local community they've cultivated in their studio, which is a real contribution. Everything was well organized and reasonably priced. I made off with some exceptionally beautiful cabochons for my jewelry making collection - any hobbyist or professional jeweler would be thrilled at the collection of faceted gemstones and polished cabochons, all organized in drawers by type and color. I had a fabulous time and can't recommend this place enough. I will definitely be signing up for one of their classes next!

She had driven by Elegant Gems several times and decided to stop in for an estimate. When she came home, she told me about this little shop on 5th with this really nice fellow that KNOWS ALOT about gems and such. He did give her an estimate of the repair and explained the issues clearly. I then decided to up the anty and surprise her with a bigger diamond, so I snuck down and met with Brent. He showed me three different options and clearly explained the different grades, handing out a very gentle re-education to loose stones. I decided on one and the ring turned out just stellar and best of all, my wife went all nuts. This was perfect on so many levels and Brent's simply the best.
