Sep 01, 2024 update: A surprise project popped up, so I needed a computer immediately. Returning it would have set things back a day or two, so eating the cost of a new charger was preferable. With the included 90W charger, the computer would sometimes trickle charge or trickle drain when encoding FHD video using the graphics card (NVEnc). No such anomolies with a 135W charger. It's too bad we couldn't work things out, but when the store does not respond, there is zero chance of a good outcome. Note in the reply (at a different website) that there was no apology... nothing. I bought a used laptop from North Van Laptops with Windows 11 installed. Three months after the purchase, an error message popped up saying that my version of Windows 11 was no longer supported and needed an upgrade. For this, the device must pass a Microsoft "health test". Well, my used laptop did not pass the test. Apparently, the processor is not supported, so Microsoft refused to install the newer version, leaving me with a useless laptop and wasted money. North Van Laptops took no interest in the issue. Lesson learned: don't try to cheap out with a shady used laptop from an unscrupulous seller. read more

I brought my desktop into NV Laptop because it wasn't connecting to the google browser. They ran a diagnostic and found out that I was on an old Windows program and suggested to upgrade to Windows 10 or Windows 11. After the upgrade, they noticed some unknown files that was taking up 90% of my 1TB storage so the person recommended deleting the files because this could cause the browser not to connect. The cost of the repair and upgrade was reasonable. I will return in the future if I have any computer issues. When a place promises to call you back in 24 hours with an estimate for repair on one of your most valuable material possessions, you really want to hear back within that time... When you have to call THEM back and ask about it, you might start to worry when they have no idea yet as to how much it will cost because they have just piled it up with others' said material possessions. Fast forward 3 days, no calls until finally they do call and you have just over an hour to go pick up your now "fixed" laptop. Sure, It was working again but it looked pretty rough. Deep scratches on the lid. My poor little laptop was now surface-scarred and I, although not materialistic at all, will not do that to my most valuble material possession ever again. read more

I took my iPad in here to get fixed, everything seemed fine until they didnt give me a call back for a couple days. So I called in and they said it could not be fixed. I told them I would come pick it up and they said it was not necessary. That I should just leave it with them because it was parts and that the iPad was not fixable! So I rushed in to find my iPad 1 64GB 3G displayed in all its little components! So long story short I did get it back, but in half decent condition. One of our laptops fans stopped working so the computer would not boot up. The fan is in a complicated area of the laptop so we couldn't do it ourselves like we normally do. I like this place for a couple of reasons. First, there is no up front fee for a diagnosis. The first time I dropped off a computer it had something wrong with the motherboard and the computer was not worth the cost of fixing it. So they returned the computer with no charge. A similar experience at a different computer shop cost me $50 or $60. Second reason is that the others repairs they have completed for me have been done within a week and reasonably priced. I own a mac and the hard drive went. These guys are much more affordable than apple repair. I didn't have a problem with the service or characteristics of the employee's as mentioned by the other reviewers. Both people I dealt with were really nice. Read the other reviews and I have to say, I could relate to each of them...but thought the Russian mob one was the funniest and probably the most accurate. They are total crooks - they know you're desperate and charged me $50 just to get a same day estimate. Joke. Also, they told me that my 8-month old Mac had a hard drive failure - that they tested on their system. They wanted almost $300 to put in a new hard drive. I ended up going back to the Mac store - only reason I didn't do that to begin with was because it was December 23rd at 4 pm and I wasn't super keen to drive downtown...wonder why. Anyhow, I took it to the Mac store and of course I didn't have a hard drive issue at all it was a software issue. Big shocker there. Do not trust these guys. Also, seriously rude to deal with. Please don't set foot in this place. They tried to tell me that my hard drive needed to be replaced for $90 and to have windows reinstalled for $89. When I went to pick up my computer after deciding not to have it worked on the Russian guy at the desk didn't say hello he just put his hand out for the pick up receipt went and got the computer put it on the desk with a filthy look and didn't say anything.
