But a new reason was realized this past weekend at the last JJWL Tourney in Stockton--The owners demonstrate their care and connection with their students by ensuring there is always someone with them! See I signed up my boys late to this tourney, sucks because I missed out on a cool rash guard ;) but for this tourney my boys had staggered start times so I got to see more matches while waiting for their appearances. I started to notice something that was not apparent to me from the last few tourneys we attended (in all past events my boys went at same start times but different mats so I was always running back and forth). Some kid competitors do not have coaches sitting in the chairs supporting them! I found this astonishing because those kids are out there competing and there was no support. I also noticed that every Beda BJJ kid competitor had a coach, sitting there while in action and also before and after. This is what truly sets Beda apart in my opinion.

My son is always excited to go to class and since transferring to Na has shown a new excitement and passion for martial arts. All the teachers are great and show a great deal of patience with the kids. The teachers have also done a great job ensuring every kid gets one on one attention regardless of the class size as they have many instructors at hand and pay close attention if any student needs help. Teacher Daniel is an awesome teacher and always does drills that are fun but there is usually a clever listening drill that accompanies the physical drills. All the teachers are great and are capable of running the entire class on their own. They all show a great level of expertise, excitement and confidence. This tells me that this is how their students will be to once they rise through the ranks.

Eastern Ways easily exceeded our expectations. They were very organized and kept the kids' interest at all times. A group of energetic 10 year olds sitting at attention is an impressive feat. The party content was tailored to our son's interests and even included Kung Fu weapons forms demonstrations. The party room was decorated beautifully and the staff was attentive to the needs of the kids, as well as the parents. The pizza was purchased from a local supermarket but all the kids asked for seconds (I had thirds). Soda and water were the drink options. We brought cupcakes from home and they supplied the candles. They had a unique way of having the birthday boy blow out his candle. There were 5 staff members doing the demonstrations and tending to the guests. They checked with us before they did anything to make sure it was ok. We've had numerous birthday parties for our boy's and these folks are tops in service and courtesy. They're patient, energetic, encouraging, and supportive. Every one of them genuinely cares about the kids and their development. My son completed his second-degree black belt at this center a few years ago, and at that time we…read morehad an excellent experience under Ms. Bowman, the original owner, co-founder, and lead instructor. However, since the new owner, Ms. Gomez took over, we have seen a significant decline in the quality of teaching, a persistent lack of individualized attention, and a significant increase in class sizes that compromised the learning environment of the students. The situation deteriorated to the point that two weeks ago we decided to withdraw our 9-year-old daughter from the program and enroll her in another, far better Taekwondo center in Folsom. The current ownership appears to prioritize increasing student volume over providing individualized attention. Students of different belt levels are frequently combined into the same classes, creating confusion for both students and parents. Additionally, the progression through belts and training milestones seems unnecessarily prolonged. They blame it to supposed deficiencies in students' "readiness" for belt testing, rather than acknowledging the impact of inconsistent teaching or insufficient oversight of their less experienced junior instructors. When we raised valid concerns about our daughter's lack of advancement and the quality of instruction she was receiving, the response from staff was dismissive and placed responsibility solely on the students and parents (e.g. suggesting that students were not practicing enough at home or that parents were not teaching them proper forms), rather than addressing the issues brought to their attention. Their current practice raises serious concerns about a potential conflict of interest, as unnecessary prolonged training directly increases the duration of monthly fees they collect from the students. When we questioned these delays and asked for clarification, they responded defensively and repeatedly, suggested enrolling in additional significantly more expensive private lessons. This clearly gave us the impression that the recommended solutions were financially motivated rather than acknowledging their teaching quality.
