The fridge is several years old but I'd had the compressor replaced less than a year ago. The tech came out and identified that the ice maker needed to be replaced. That's fine, I replaced it myself for $200. The issue I have is that we had left the freezer cracked the night before so the contents were melted a bit. I was clear with the tech that we had left the freezer open and the compressor was fine. We told him this five times. He then decided to test the compressor anyway then tried to tell me the compressor was faulty. It seems it tested properly, but the soft freezer contents were evidence the compressor was out. He then quoted me something like $1,500 to replace it. I told him I wasn't interested since the compressor was still under a 12 month warranty. There was a language barrier, but he seemed to understand what I was saying which is why I was confused why he tested the compressor. He left, and I ordered the replacement ice maker. Later that day, the fridge started humming. Humming loud enough to where sitting in the living room (adjacent to the kitchen) without the TV or anything on was annoying. I contacted the owner who told me explicitly he intended to do nothing to rectify the situation, and that the tech didn't work for him anymore. My only real recourse is to put a review on every site I can think of so that other consumers have more information when they decide to hire someone.

I met with Mark on Feb 21, 2023, our KitchenAid refrigerator's ice maker was not making ice, and our Maytag Washing machine was flashing error codes and not working as it should work. Mark told me it would be cheaper to buy a new washing machine, without even inspecting the washing machine, and again without checking the refrigerator (he opened the door) and said I needed a part for the fridge. The part was on national back order, the part cost about $450. I asked if he would order it, and he said no, it's never going to come in, it's been back ordered for a very long while. He then said that his visit that day would be $85, and I paid reluctantly. My conversation with Mark Pettye and his explanations took less than 5 minutes. As a Contractor myself, I know that knowledge and prognosis are part of the battle to repair or replace anything, however, in my case with Mark Pettye, his information was wrong. After complaining to my wife about my experience with the Appliance guy, she took a look at the Fridge, then defrosted it and replaced the water filter, and to my surprise--viola--it worked, and the ice maker has worked ever since. I called Mark Pettye with Pettye's Appliance Repair, on April 7, 2023, to discuss his diagnosis and prognosis of the KitchenAid refrigerator. He explained that I would still need to replace the part for a permanent repair. I told him he was wrong he said defrosting would only delay the failure for a few months. I challenged him to refund my $85 if the refrigerator ice maker was still working in 6 months, and he agreed. More than 6 months later, on Aug 25, 2023, I called Mark Pettye to tell him the Ice Maker was still working, he said he would come by the following Monday, he did not show up on Monday but did call and tell me he would mail me my refund check (yeah, that's right, the check is in the mail). Needless to say, the refund check never arrived either. I would not recommend Mark Pettye of Pettye's Appliance Repairs. He hops from house to house, not doing work, only giving advice, and wrong advice on top of just advice then charges $85. for nothing...what a scam!!
