Upon sitting down, we were greeted with not many words. Soon to find out I think there was a language barrier. We were never asked if we wanted something to drink. We marked our items we wanted on a piece of paper they give you with the menu. As you eat they put the receipt ticket of what you ordered on the edge of the table or a chair and mark off items as you receive them. Not a great feeling as a guest. We had a reservation at 630, ordered 2 rolls and seaweed salad. Our seaweed salad came out within 5 minutes but at 740 I let our server know we were still waiting for our rolls. They came out 10 minutes later. I'm not sure if they were short staffed or lost our ticket but it took a verrrrrrrrry long time to get our food. We did the red dragon roll and rainbow roll. I was searching for a Japanese restaurant to celebrate a birthday with friends, and found Nozomi after searching online and seeing their quite good yelp reviews. The B-day was on a Friday, so we lucked out because they open earlier on Fridays and their happy hour begins when they open at noon. The happy hour menu choices were plentiful and extremely reasonably priced...especially for the portion sizes. By the time we finished our meal, between the four of us, we must have ordered 15 dishes off both the HH menu and the regular menu. It was all quite delicious. The Miso eggplant still has me drooling...as does the miso cod, the Kobe fried rice and the hamachi crudo. The decor is very comfortable and modern. This has quickly become one of my go to spots for sushi I'm Denver. It's a quaint sushi spot and the sushi chefs at the bar look like they're all Japanese, so you know it's going to be good. The sushi is super fresh, and they dress their nigiri to give it extra flavor and pop. Their rolls are also really well made with great sushi rice and interesting sauces and topping combinations. Though a little pricey, it's definitely worth it. Some highlights for me on the menu are their salmon belly nigiri, miso eggplant, and the red dragon roll. read more

Literally the best meal of my life. I've had fine dining on both coasts, Europe, and Vegas, and this was an incredible experience. Even my girlfriend's picky daughter loved her food. We got lobster, Wagyu steak, six different rolls, plus dumplings, soup, and seaweed salad. And walked out with only a tiny box and keeping in mind my girlfriend ate minimally because of a recent surgery. The owner and the staff were incredibly attentive, and the owner was working so hard you would never know it was her place! I went back to get take-out, it was incredible too! This spring we summited the sushi world with an omakase at Michelin-starred Udatsu Sushi in Tokyo. Since then we've bounced from restaurant in restaurant in our hometown of Chicago trying in vain to equal the experience. Maybe Nozomi isn't Udatsu, but the quality, presentation and service was as good--if not better--than any of our Chicago go-to's. We worked our way though some incredible sashimi and nigiri--the black cod was out-of-this world--before wrapping up with a couple makis. Service was impeccable. I kept trying to peak at the guys that were making sushi lol. I had the miso soup which hit the spot. We had the most delicious crab wontons. We came here Monday for happy hour right before our flight back to Austin. It is such an unassuming location in the LOHI area. It was quiet when we arrived since it was a Monday at 4:30 pm. Its a pretty dark restaurant with a lot of seating throughout. We were greeted promptly and sat at the front back of the restaurant, which accommodated our luggage. We didn't order anything off the regular menu, so I can't attest to the items on the normal menu, but the Happy Hour is really where it is at! The items we tried were the 3 temaki rolls for $12 (salmon, spicy salmon, and yellowtail), we ordered shishito peppers, shumai, and two rolls (Philadelphia and Salmon). Everything came out quickly, and all the fish cuts were fresh and delicious! If we are back in Denver, we will definitely come back to check out more of the menu! read more

This is our favorite sushi spot in Denver! Ever since we moved here, we have always been hesitant with eating sushi (landlocked state). But Nozomi is top notch! We feel at home coming here and haven't gone to any other sushi spot in Denver after finding Nozomi. The fish is so fresh and prepared perfectly. The service is also fast, everyone is very welcoming. We always try to sit up at the sushi bar so we can see all the creations. We like simple sushi/nigiri. We always get the tuna, salmon, scallop (chefs kiss), and yellow tail. I have been wanting to check out Nozomi because I noticed their happy hour menu looked fantastic. We sat at the sushi bar and had an entire sushi dinner for about $60! The happy hour offers 3 hand rolls for $12 and $6 maki. We tried the eel avocado and spicy salmon hand rolls, spicy yellowtail maki, and eel avocado maki. All of it was made right in front of us and was very fresh. We ordered a scallop and bluefin tuna nigiri which was not on the happy hour menu but was melt in your mouth good! We happened upon this little unassuming place on a Sunday night. It was pretty crowded but got seats at the sushi bar right away. The sushi was some of the freshest I've ever had, and I was visiting from Florida! There were 6 sushi chefs working away and the food we saw coming out looked delicious. Another sushi bar that popped up in the Sunnyside neighborhood. If you are not paying attention, you'll miss this restaurant because it looks nothing like a sushi restaurant on the outside. And the exterior store sign is somewhat small. Once inside, a bit of modern feel on top of somewhat traditional Japanese style ambiance nicely coexists in a spacious one story building; this restaurant is definitely unassumingly being on one of the corners of Tejon and 41st. In a way, it doesn't try to look over the top as if to say that it wants to remain humble. Our reservation was at 6:30pm on a beautiful Saturday. It wasn't that busy when we arrived. The night was still young; gradually though people started showing up for their mid evening dinner, one after another. And by 7:30pm it was quite busy. Let's talk quality of the food, shall we? We were pretty impressed with most of the items we ordered. Miso Black Cod almost melted on our tongues. And the side white rice enhanced the whole dish. Even something simple like miso soup was impressively good here. I wanted to order something unique that's not offered at most of the sushi restaurants in Denver so one of the nigiri pieces I personally ordered was the Nasu (eggplant). My daughter thought it was an eel nigiri at first (lol!) This Nasu nigiri was the highlight of the show so unless you are not a big fan of eggplant, you should definitely order it; you'll not be disappointed with this one. Our waitress was attentive to our needs. In a typical Asian culture, carrying on small talks others and smiling at strangers even in a restaurant setting might not be a common practice but workers at this restaurant are efficient and they focus on professionalism and timely assistance. That was what we saw when we dined here at Nozomi. My daughter was so impressed with everything we had tonight to a point where she even said she'd be back with her boyfriend who's a big fan of miso cod. This is my favorite sushi restaurant in Denver. Period. I almost hesitated to review this place since everyone is going to find out what a gem it is and will become an overcrowded sushi den 2.0. But alas-- duty calls. First of all, the sashimi quality is on par with sushi den period. Their crudo sashimi appetizers are incredible, like stop in your tracks holy guacamole WOW. So if you come here you have to get the salmon (sake) sashimi appetizer because when you do you will want to order a second. Which I have done almost every time I have gone there. Oops. Their rolls are also really good, special shout out to the king roll, Tejon roll, and snow beauty roll as well. That said if you want a sashimi fix, the crudo appetizers and sashimi really shine here. In addition to the food, this restaurant has navigated my sesame allergy immaculately free of errors, always making us feel cared for. It's hard to find a restaurant as a reliable. This was our second time at Nozomi. We visited the first time on July 4th because we couldn't find other sushi places open on that day close by to our place. It was such a pleasant surprise to land at such good sushi joint! The second time we showed up with no reservation (not the best idea) but the manager recognized us and put us on the wait list right away. We sat at the bar and enjoyed our favorite dishes. I just had a nice lunch here this afternoon. It's a brand new restaurant in the area that we've been looking forward to since talk about it began during the pandemic. Then the opening signs came up- FINALLY!!! When we arrived, we were the only ones there, and we shouldn't have been, because it was really good!It was very clean inside and the decor was stylish. The staff were friendly and the rolls tasted fresh. We especially enjoyed the yellowtail- so much so that we ended up ordering an extra sashimi (ostensibly for my son...but we got in there too!) No booster seats, only high chairs, but the waitress was really thoughtful to bring a lidded water and chopstick helpers for our toddler. I love how close it is to us and we'll definitely be back, particularly before it catches on and we either can't get a table or the wait is too long to bear with a little person. read more

I love a good ginger house salad but this dressing didn't have much flavor, so I definitely wouldn't get it again. We got the bluefin toro sashimi, toro maki, shrimp tempura roll, den roll, and tejon roll. I have to say it was amazing and I will definitely be coming back. My husband and I were impressed by the amount of fish actually in the rolls. I was also especially impressed with the amount of toro in the sashimi portion. We both agreed the fish was delicious, it felt like it melted in my mouth. I think my fave roll was the Den roll (I subbed salmon for more tuna) The service was good and the ambiance was nice. I tried this place as the reviews were good and it was recommended by yelp; I am a short term resident here in Denver, coming from Austin, Texas. I came away with the following TLDR: I am not a fan of paying extreme premiums for mediocre sushi with mediocre service and a bad atmosphere, I would not recommend this place. I started by calling ahead to reserve a table, with little issue; I got there and stepped in being mean eyed by a waiting crowd, far more so when the server noticed a crowd and went group by group asking if any were us; I stepped forward and confirmed, she then sat us, where we waited for around 10 minutes for initial contact with my server. I should note that anyone with Auditory Processing Disorder or other such issues with loud noises and an excruciatingly loud din need not even attempt this place, it was one of the loudest restaurants I've ever been in, just based on this, as I do have APD, I would immediately rate this extremely low even if the food was good and the service was acceptable, the attention to the layout to prevent the massive escalation of noise just wasn't there. I ordered a soda and an appetizer as well as two California rolls not wanting to spend $75 to get enough to eat. (our app was $20, most of their rolls were $20-30, some slightly less, some much more) Specifically, I elected for California temaki (roll sushi) at $10 for each roll of eight pieces which seemed like a decent price, I was hoping to have some left over; Our appetizer, crab cheese dumplings, came after about 15m and it was overcooked to the point where it was shattering instead of pulling apart cleanly, this may just be my preference, but I'd take panda express' cream cheese rangoons over this, they're the same thing and better overall. It came with what tasted like duck sauce, but it tasted bland for duck sauce to me. What came out after a very long wait, 20m or so more was a small platter of 16 tiny pieces of sushi, I found them cute but it was very expensive for what I recieved. I decided to wait until trying it to judge; it may be amazing! It absolutely wasn't good enough to demand any significant premium; I was honestly thinking that grocery store sushi was better by a longshot, let alone a comparably expensive sushi restaurant like what I am very familiar with in Austin. My food came out to a total of around $50 after tax including the appetizer as I ate most of it once I realized I wasn't going to get enough to eat that night without, a similar price to my companion who ordered one of the nicer rolls and a tuna temaki (I did try one of her significantly larger six pieces of dynamite sushi, and it wasn't anything to write home about, though better than mine it costed triple the price per piece). Our bill totaled out to around $100 after tax and before tip. I have no clue how mediocre sushi can cost that much but I'm not going to come back to try again; that's for sure. If the sushi was amazing I would not balk at the price in the slightest, if it was decent I probably still would not come back at the price, but at these prices it's highway robbery, I would prefer grocery store sushi over this any day.
