Wow! This place is great for lunch! My husband and I were in town for a doctor's appointment and walked over here for a light lunch before heading back home to Arizona. We've been coming back to Novo Café lately, and I'm so happy to report that their commitment to excellent service is back! The atmosphere is low-key and inviting; it was surprisingly quiet for a Friday night, which made for a relaxing dinner. Our waitress, Carolina, was superb--personable, knowledgeable, and incredibly attentive. As for the food, the tomato soup, the lasagna and the ravioli with funghi sauce were fresh and delicious. Been coming here for years and love the ambience and food here. The staff does a great job at accommodating preferences and the pasta is always piping hot. The bread to start is yummy - especially with the table balsamic, olive oil and crushed fresh garlic. I have tried many of their pastas and have yet to find one I did not like. We like to sit outside and have a nice meal while enjoying the Cali weather. They have heaters if you get cold. Take out here is easy as there is designated parking for those running in to grab their food. read more

Came by on a Saturday for dinner and the restaurant was fairly busy. Service was a little slow because they were short staffed but they were friendly and did their best to keep things moving. This place was highly recommended to me by a friend and is very convenient to my job so my husband and I decided to drop in for a weeknight dinner. They have a mix of inside and outdoor seating (with heaters) and had no problems getting seated right away. Once we were seated the service was a little slow to get menus and water but after we ordered the waitstaff were very attentive throughout the night. The food was very tasty! We got the Pizza Ruggola and Spaghetti Clams & Calamari. I honestly don't have a favorite and if it's your first time here I would definitely recommend getting a pizza and pasta so you can get both. Overall the noodles tasted really fresh and the goat cheese on the pizza was the perfect pop of taste. Pricing wise it's just a little on the pricey side but not terribly crazy. read more

This place is great! We were staying at the hotel next door and needed to grab dinner so we just walked next door and boy are we glad we did. It's a cozy spot with indoor and outdoor seating. Gabriel, our server, was a delight and the food was delicious! The salad, the pasta, the pizza, the CHEESECAKE (do not pass in the cheesecake!), and even the iced tea available in black, green or passion fruit. Everything 10/10. Went here on a weekend at 1 pm. The staff was great but the reason for the two stars is the food and how the beverages were over priced. The chicken pesto panini was dry, lacking flavor, and the spaghetti novo pasta noodles itself was a bit on the stale side. You could tell it was not fresh. What threw us over the edge were how overpriced the beverages were. We paid two fountain drinks--diet cokes mind you--for $13 total. So all in all, we paid $70--not including the tip-- just for two lunch entrees and two soft drinks that reminded us of cafeteria food. read more

Used to go here in person years ago and remembered it being good but just ordered it via door dash and it was horrible. Not just the food, but the preparation. See photo below.... nothing like finding a lettuce stump in your caesar salad to whet the appetite. This isn't hard during prep to make sure it's not included in someone's meal. But it speaks to the overall meal. My wife had rigatoni arrabiata with salmon and found a piece of plastic in it, unfortunately by biting it. My cheese pizza was just that - cheese. Soooo much cheese. Basically a circle of pizza crust with a mountain of melted cheese in the middle. It wasn't sliced. Hard to when the pizza dough was so thin and moist under it that you couldn't cut out a slice and pick it up. To salvage this disaster, I cut appropriate amounts of cheese to lay on top of the pizza crust and ate it like that. Threw the rest out. Mozzerella sticks - oh yeah more like slabs. Melted and split apart in the box so that was a gooey box of cheese with some breaded crust mixed in. Nothing to actually pick up with my fingers and dip into the sauce. The sauce, which was tomato water. Back to the salad. How hard is it to offer a halfway decent caesar salad when you're charging $14? This was made by someone who did not give a d**n enough to not include the lettuce stump (I get it, it happens, but if it was the only issue I wouldn't be writing this) and then it's just romaine, a few cherry tomatoes, parm slabs and then canned parm shake (way too much of that also) and some bread crumbs. Dressing was like vinaigrette. Let me add that I don't like bashing a restaurant. I know it's a tough business having worked in several when I was younger. But there's no excuse for sending out a meal this carelessly prepared that costs over $100. Nomo Novo for us. read more

A long overdue review for this gem in Burbank! My favorite is the pasta funghi -- a delicious mushroom pasta with a delicate cream sauce. My first experience here in 2021 blew me away! I loved the quaint feel of the outdoor patio, and how the service was top notch. I remembered the perfect crust on the cheesy pizza and how the pasta melted in my mouth. We returned last night for a birthday dinner with family. We made a reservation and we were seated on the patio. Our server attended to all of our drinks and we ordered lots of food. We had the mozzarella sticks, cheese pizza, a gluten free vegetable pizza, the Burrata toast (wow!!!) and lots of pasta dishes. We ordered the salmon, I had the carbonara pasta gluten free with a ball of Burrata on the side, we had the bolognese pasta, and the Caprese chicken with potatoes. All of the dishes were devoured! I can't say enough nice things about this restaurant. I will 100% return. Quality of food, portions, service, atmosphere all deserves a 10/10 read more

Are you sure just order Novo on Postmates and it's always the salmon with the caper sauce and the steamed veggies they're steamed veggies are delicious. The broccoli and the cabbage and the salmon is always good. BEWARE! If you're going to go to Novo Cafe (in Westlake) to listen to music, you will be charged an $8 "Concert Fee" when you are given the check for your food/drinks. There is NO notice whatsoever in the restaurant, on signs, or on the table that you will be paying for the band. The restaurant is not really set up to accommodate a band away from diners. As a matter of fact, two groups left the restaurant because the music was too loud. AND, the owner actually told the band their music was too loud!! I won't be going back. read more

TLDR: 5/5 A cute hole-in-the-wall Italian place serving up (lets be honest $$$) Italian and American Italian-style food. I thought it was so delicious. Listen I would not have expected shredded chicken (a choice), avocado, and caramelized onions to hit but it really did. The panini was toasted perfectly, it was a substantial size, and everything in it blended really well together. The chicken shockingly was not dry it was quite moist actually. I think having a dash of heat would've sent it. This one also comes with pesto which I can't have but I'm sure that would be so good with it. It came with a nice side of salad too which was great. I boxed the other half. Garlic Cheese sticks?: 3/5 Pretty basic to me. Service: 5/5 To what others have said you pay for your meal and then sit down which I certainly had no issue with. We came around 11:45 am so just shy of the lunch rush so I felt like we got really good treatment. The cashier who was also the server was so friendly to us. When I double-checked to make sure i didn't get the pesto one (bc I'm allergic) she ran back to the kitchen to confirm. I think she checked on us at least twice. Our food came out decently timed I think it was harder considering some had salads and others had pasta or pizza but no complaints truly. Vibes: 5/5 It was just the perfect day, so all the more reason to love the vibes out the outdoors at this place. Ample room, tables are spaced out, its great. Parking: Only street parking. This is kinda the tail end of the busier street so you might have more luck at this place. Its off the corner of a residential so that might be your best bet. Would definitely come back! The pasta and calamari was great, but the lamb chops were very overcooked (grey and tough) and the service was poor. Probably took 45 mins to an hour to receive our food after it was ordered. Not blaming the waiter on this as well but he was obviously overstretched and was not checking in on the table often. I had the Drunken Sea , and it was easily the best dish I've had from an Italian restaurant in years. My family and I were craving Italian food, so we decided to check out Novo Cafe because it was nearby and one of the few places that opened late in the area. We easily found street parking and arrived to the restaurant around 8:45pm on Saturday. The outdoor patio still had diners and a few parties inside as well, but there was still plenty of seating. We ordered three dishes, including the Classic Spaghetti Carbonara, the Pizza Rugola, and the Seafood Risotto, which was from their daily specials sheet. The risotto was my fave because it was so aromatic and satisfied my cravings for something warm & flavorful. The carbonara was good, but saltier than I expected - probably because it was loaded with pancetta. The pizza was also good as the crust was crisp, yet soft and there were fresh toppings. However, out of all the toppings, the goat cheese was overpowering, so just beware if you're not a fan of it. The staff was kind and attentive, and the restaurant had a warm atmosphere. I think it's a good place to bring family and friends, and I'd come back to try their lunch menu and desserts. read more

We agreed, thinking they would simply move our food to the new table. However, when we moved, the waiter just handed us a new menu and asked us to order everything again. Meanwhile, our food and drinks were taken to the kitchen or thrown away, even though they weren't even half eaten. We've been here twice now. First time was great! We both had the bolognese and it was excellent! Service was good, nice experience. We went again and it was the opposite. The carbonara was the worst we've ever had. It's supposed to be creamy, the velvety sauce should coated the pasta. We received the pasta sitting in a bowl of watery sauce. It was absolutely terrible. Also got the rosemary chicken, and mixed veggies. The chicken was so dry it was like eating shoe leather. It needed some kind of sauce to make it moist. The veggies were good. We also ordered the calamari which was excellent. We were hungry and had an appt. so didn't complain this time, although we did mention it to the server, who said he would tell the kitchen staff. We've been coming here somewhat regularly for the last 4 years. Friendly staff. Attentive. Decent food. We aren't a big group or demanding in any way. Just 2 adults and a well behaved kid. An easy table for most. Tonight we came and received good service from a server named Gabriel. Except when the bill came, I noticed the total was a bit high. I checked closer and Gabriel had included an automatic gratuity of 20% on our bill. I was a little put off considering we weren't a large or demanding table, but servers deserve tips, so I made no issue of it. That is, until Gabriel ran the card and returned with the final check to be signed. Conveniently, the itemized check with the 20% tip line item was no where to be found. Instead, all he gave was a receipt with a total and a big blank gratuity line. I signed the bill and circled the total with a note that a 20% gratuity had been included already. Then I went up to the counter and asked for the itemized receipt. The woman behind the counter was kind enough, but then I asked when they had changed their policy about including mandatory gratuity. Her eyes grew wide and she lowered her gaze as she shook her head and mumbled about how it was not policy, but it was done by our waiter. Gabriel quickly hurried over when he saw this and asked what was wrong, to which I told him he forgot my itemized receipt with the final bill. His eyes grew wide too and he started fumbling through excuses while at the same time claiming he had actually given it. Needless to say, it was glaringly obvious what he was up to as I pointed out the included gratuity note on my final bill. The most disturbing part of the whole exchange was the fact that other workers around him all seemed to understand what was happening. All with the same guilty look as they listened to me calmly talk about the "error". The shift manager beside him printed an itemized receipt for me and Gabriel asked if I would like for him to remove the tip. I told him to keep it and went on my way. So, for anyone who wants to eat here. Be warned. If they think they can get away with it, they may try to trick you into double tipping. They also appear to be charging more for entrees than the price they have in their menus. Almost every item we had was price between $2 to $4 more than what they had in their menu. Needless to say, while this has been our go-to spot for the last 4 years for a casual italian dinner, we will no longer be coming here. Real pity. read more

Did not love my first lunch experience at Novo! Maybe it caught me off guard that it was counter service while I was hoping for a nice sit-down wine-induced working lunch. Maybe the March rain got to me. Either way I'm sure I'll be back another time a colleague convinces me to drive out to Burbank for a $40 lunch I ordered the pizza rugola because I love prosciutto and I was hoping to have leftovers for days. The size of the pizza did NOT disappoint and I enjoyed it multiple times after. It was tasty, but not near the best prosciutto & honey pizza I have had. A little light on the honey glaze and heavy on the arugula. Crust was crispy and cooked nicely, and I did enjoy that that used a lot of prosciutto! One of my friends got the chicken specialty, and it was one of the saddest dishes I have seen. Just a couple plain looking chicken breast slices. I gave her some of the arugula off of my pizza and still had plenty to spare. The fries reminded me of fries from a summer camp or music festival. Don't think they were made fresh, but very crispy and tasty nonetheless. Felt silly going up to the counter to order a second glass of wine but I did what I needed to do at the time. On a Saturday night, it was refreshing to be able to pop into a restaurant without a reservation or a long wait. The restaurant seemed busy with people sitting inside and outside but there were still multiple tables to choose from indoors. I really enjoyed my drunked sea pasta which had a good amount of seafood and the pasta was cooked perfectly. While the service was a bit slow, I wasn't in a rush and prefer quality cooked food over speed. Someone at the table did comment that the bread on the table was cold and not that tasty though, so that was a bit of a letdown.
