This is such a cute Italian bakery!! They had such a nice variety of baked goods, pastries, cookies, gelato, and cakes. They even had frozen entrees, pizza dough, and other things that you could take home and make. Unfortunately no hot table items such as sandwiches are served on the weekend, so I was unable to buy those and try them. I ended up buying vegetarian arancini, which was delicious! I also got some cannolis which they made fresh to order. The ricotta filling was really good! The prices for everything were also quite reasonable. I've been here a few times to purchase cakes, cookies, bread and pastries. The service is friendly. The bread is baked fresh daily and have quite a few selections. The Italian cookies are sold per pound. They have many cakes for sale, tartofu cakes and regular ones. Pricing is very reasonable here and products are fresh. This place is located at the front of an industrial complex where I was getting my car serviced. I dropped in for a coffee and snack while waiting. They have a lot of pastries and cakes on display, and a selection of gelatos. There's also a sandwich counter and some gourmet looking foods in fridges. Seating is limited to two tables of four. I opted for a cappuccino and a puff pastry. The coffee was good but the pastry wasn't nearly as good as it looked and I was surprised that they put it in the microwave oven before serving it. It looked really good like it would be flaky and crispy but it turned out to be a little soggy and not much filling inside. I was a little disappointed. read more

Novello Desserts is a small family owned bakeries in Markham area. It is nestled on the side street surrounded by auto body shops and industrial units. Novello Desserts makes all their offerings in house, that includes gelato, baked goods and hot food. The Cappuccino is A-OK.. a strong roast. Tasted great with the little white chocolate nutty cookies I ordered. I told the lady I want my coffee to stay and when I was checking out their cookies, she already made that in a freaking paper cup... sigh.. maybe those mugs are for decoration only?? Drinking my coffee facing the Gelato is not recommended.. as fending off the temptation of having a gelato right there is not easy....... for $3.75 you will get this big cup, though I stuffed from my lunch and I know I can still eat that with no problem. The sandwiches though are not as appetizing as everything is pre made and the server just snap them all together.. but the ciabatta buns they served on looks so good. I just watching a couple wolfed down their veal sandwiches in recorded speed. The freezer does have pasta sauce, frozen cakes and other Italian food for purchases. Nice little bakery tugged away in a industrial looking area on Bullock. This Italian bakery offers a big selections of desserts. The mini desserts are perfect size, around $1.5 each. They have canoli, eclairs, tiramisu, mini cheesecakes, cupcakes, cookies etc. Selection is plentiful. Cakes are decently priced around $25-35 depending on the cake. I picked up cake and mini desserts for a party and was not disappointed. Next time I would like to try their gelato. They also offer frozen Italian food as well but I have yet to try. One major downside is that they close fairly early so I can't grab a desserts post dinner read more

What a wonderful establishment! When you walk in, the store has a wide variety of savory treats and sweets. Desserts, cookies, pastries, sandwiches and pizza dough are only a few items that fill the store. This establishment also offers seating for those who want to take in the ambience. I liked my experience at Novello's. Service was friendly and helpful in explaining what each dessert consists of. We ordered: Sfogliate ($2.50) - Novello's sfogliate isn't the shell-shaped good that you might come to expect - rather it is oval-shaped with powdered sugar and cinammom on top. It's a layered, light, and not too sweet pastry that has delicious custard inside of it. For its size, the price is really worth it. It's a pastry big enough for two. I really liked this pastry and would recommend it - it's not a dessert that leaves you with a heavy and full feeling - it's a light dessert with the right amount of sweetness. Six cookies (100g/$2.50) - these were Italian cookies - they weren't labelled but they were drizzled in either dark or white chocolate. They're thin and crunchy and came with what tasted like a hint of almond. They weren't my favourite to try but they're a treat nonetheless - they'd probably go well with coffee. Blueberry cheesecake bite ($1.25) - pretty good and well-presented, this was a nice small bite and worth the price. I'd recommend Novello's - they have a variety of pastries and desserts, coffee, gelato, frozen Italian dinners to take home, and cakes for order. The value is good too! The sfogliate was a pastry that I thoroughly enjoyed and I will definitely be going back to try their other sweets, gelato, and frozen entrees. read more

It's a pretty good gelato place. I like the nutty flavours and their pistachio and hazelnut are very good and true to flavour! These two flavours are also always available (atleast everytime I've been here) which means I get to satisfy my cravings every time I visit! The gelato is creamy, they fill your cup with as much gelato as possible, and they're cheaper than other gelato shops (I don't remember how much it cost but it was reasonable!). Staff are also friendly. I'd like to try their other pastries next time and I've been considering getting their gelato cakes too! It is a little hard to find because it's in the plaza where all the mechanics are...but I guess it's the perfect place to wait while you get your car fixed! read more

Went there for a second time. It's a great place to visit after a 3 hour trail. I had gelato (coffee and hazelnut favour for me and vanilla favour for my dog). I loved mine. Not sweet (I'm not a fan of sweet things). I should say it's just right amount of sweetness. For coffee favour, the coffee bean mixed inside is a brilliant idea. It balanced off the sweetness but it's not bitter either. I'm so thrilled that hazelnut is good too. Forgive me for limited vocabulary. All I can say is that my gelato is better than the favour of Starbucks hazelnut coffee lol. My dog loves her vanilla gelato too. She finished in a minute and she still wants more. We also got a box of pastry. Unfortunately, we finished most of it before I can even take a picture. We had almond tart, Cannoli, sfogliatella, and some others that I cannt recall their names. The tiramisu is awesome. the coffee beans on top is genius. and everything else is good too. The sfogliatella just reminded me of the ones we had at Naples. One in short, a great place to visit. Novello's just north of Markham Mazda along Laidlaw Rd.....is a family runned italian bakery that's serving up italian classics from Canolis, macarons, and gelato to chicken/ veal parmigiano, and lasagna!! On a humid afternoon while waiting for an oil change I.........we decided to head up the road for some Gelato. The place is small, clean, and exhibits an open concept to show off all the delish baked goodies, and hot foods. I have been here before and have ordered cakes from them, and I must say they put their heart and soul into everything they make.....after all its for the love of food, and reputation ;) Iriana ordered a small size half banana and half watermelon. I felt the banana could have been a tad more sweeter, however it was light, but a little bland for my liking :) I decided to order their large (bad idea, as it was a lot lol) half lemon, and half mango. The lemon gelato was perfect, though Iri found it a little too sour based on her facial reaction! I loved it :) yea...im pretty sour. The mango, a little sweet complimented the lemon, and I was a happy camper! Overall great place, and its the only italian bakery in the area. :) My overall score for this place is 4/5 read more

I'm not sure why anyone would complain about the pricing at Novello. FYI people, this is a shop that makes everything from scratch! Food, desserts etc. No comparison to supermarkets AT ALL! Pricing is good and service is great too from the staff. Very helpful and knowledgeable about their products. Their baked goods are amazing! I'm Italian and i've been to Italy numerous times. Some of the best cannoli's and zeppole i've tried in the GTA. They have a great variety of gelato too. Last month, i tried food from Grace's Kitchen (owners catering biz) which is their catered food biz. Have to say, i wasn't impressed. Nicely packaged and neatly prepared but seriously lacking in flavour. Sauce was a bit too on the tart side, not enough cheese and the meat was meh. I felt like i was eating Italian food made the Canadian way. Nothing like my nonna or my mom would make. read more

Located in kind of an industrial part of Markham where if you look left and right, it's filled with auto body shops. And if i didn't do a yelp search while in the area, I would have never known that a place like this existed. Cute little place with a large selection of Italian baked goods. Picked up some focaccia, apple turnover, almond croissant, and a loaf of bread. Focaccia salty, fluffy, oily, topped with onions, loved it. I didn't have the apple turnover, but I was told it was gobbled up quite fast so I assumed it to be good. Almond croissant was a disappointment. I was expecting it to be the same as a French almond croissant, but I kept eating further and further into it, and there was no almond paste. So i felt a bit disappointed. Are Italian almond croissants just regular butter croissants with a few sliced almonds on top? The loaf of bread, I'm not quite sure what it was called because the hubby chose it. I wasn't a huge fan of it. Had a nice crust, but was almost too soft? I found the inside of the bread a bit soft for my liking as well. I was as if the bread was made with a cake flour, so it was very smooth (if that makes any sense at all) with no chewiness. I personally prefer the more rustic type breads with a thicker crust and more chew (due to a harder flour with more gluten). Overall, not bad, will be back to check out more of their offerings. read more

They also do several kinds of cakes, which I've ordered and had many, many times. All of which were fantastic. I have never had a bad experience here. I have been here many times in the past year and become a little obsessive groupie. Why does all of their food have to taste so good? I've successfully converted several people to becoming devotees of Novellos, which as I'm sure you'd agree is worthy of free birthday cakes for life. Just sayin. They are primarily an Italian cake and sweets shop, but they also make their own gelato, hot lunches (chicken or veal parm on a bun with mushrooms and peppers), frozen entrees (chicken and eggplant parm, lasagna, stuffed manicotti, etc.). They make assorted breads that would knock the socks off a mule A word about their cakes- when you enter the store you'll see a rotating cake case with some of the most delicious cakes. From tiramisu to pecan torte, chocolate ganache cake or Oreo cheesecake, they're all baked fresh, ready to wrap up, take home and binge eat in your bedroom with the door locked. Ok, that's probably just my thing, but still. Their lattes are delish, best with their pistachio biscotti -I know someone so who loves them so much they order the biscotti (from me) for delivery to Nova Scotia. Go there. Order stuff. The gelato is pretty good as well. The only reason I'm not giving a 5 star is because of their service. Amazingly delicious and large variation of traditional and non traditional Italian desserts. Fresh and creamy cannolis, home made gelato, chocolate truffles and so much more! I've had their Italian hot table which isn't as fancy or large in size as other hot tables I've been to but definitely worth the taste. I always pick up a few packs of their frozen meals; lasagna (voted one of the best by my family), cabbage rolls, and even shepherds pie for a very cheap price! Bought a very small fancy cake that was in the display case for our 35th wedding anniversary. I asked if it was buttercream. I was told yes. It definitely was nothing like the buttercream icing or filling I have tasted before. The filling and icing was no different than the cheap slab birthday cakes you get at the grocery store. I took cake decorating years ago and we used icing sugar and shortening for the icing and cake decorations. I could tell by the texture and aftertaste that the icing on this cake as well as the filling was like that. This wasn't just about the $45 but it was such a special occasion. Extremely disappointed. If you bring a box of 12 or more of these delightful italian pastries, I'm sure your company will be happy! They offer cheesecake, cannolis (my favourite), peach cookies, fruit tarts, lemon tarts and much more! I personally only get the cannolis because they are pretty authentic here! A little bit more ricotta could be used but it's fine! They offer the regular ricotta flavour, chocolate and custard cannolis. Each dessert goes for $1.50. Happy dessert picking! read more

I come here while i wait for my car to enjoy a coffee, hot lunch, or frozen lasagna to take home. I usually get the meat lasagna or just cheese. They are huge and so conveinient for when I invite friends or family over. Friendly service here and quality Italian food. I've ordered the Sfoglia cake couple times and it was just alright. The mille feuille sheets weren't crispy and the fruit selection inside wasn't the greatest. The customer service is hit and miss as I find the owner a bit snappy and unwelcoming. The times I've ordered the mini desserts, they always ask up front how many pieces I want. Don't know about you but I don't step into a bakery thinking, "Ok today I will only buy 7!" The reason they ask is they place the pastries directly into the box as you're making your selection. Made a U turn and went to Love Gelato. Closed! Went a bit further south to DQ. Closed! Back north to Garden Basket. Closed! OMG! Just back from Hong Kong and forgot it's Toronto.... everywhere should be closing early on New Year Eve. Oh..... my .......... how could I show up to a party without bringing dessert?! Driving aimlessly on 16th Avenue and Novello Desserts popped up in my mind. Headed back south to Bullock and saw someone just came out from Novello. Went in at top speed and was greeted by a nice lady right away. Told her that I needed a cake for New Year party,and she showed me the cakes in the freezer. There were a few favors to choose from. I picked the tiramisu. She asked the staff to bring it inside and decorate it a bit. I left happily with the cake. 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.... Happy New Year 2015!! A man came out of the store, so I went in. I was told to wait outside because there were too many people inside. When another customer left, I went inside and was the fifth person. One of my favourite places to get pastries in the GTA. They have an amazing selection of pastries at just $1.50 each, from brownies, to cupcakes, to cannolis, to mousse, and cheesecake. My favourites are their chocolate mousse, cheesecake, and brownie of their smaller pastries. They also have a flaky custard pastry called a sfvogate (pretty sure I'm spelling it wrong) that is so delicious. It's the perfect amount of sweetness that doesn't leave you feeling like garbage after you eat it. I have yet to try a pastry from Novellos that I don't like. They also have a hot foods section and I had their pasta or the day once, which was a tomato penne with meatballs. A pretty generous portion for $5, but I will say it was a standard dish. I wasn't wowed, but I also wasn't disappointed. Their meatballs were delicious, though. My fiancé and I also like to pick up a jar of their pasta sauce or some of their frozen foods here and there. read more

If I could give this place more stars I would. Ive tried other bakeries like lamanas in Scarbrough and it doesn't even come close to Novellos. This place is perfect for when you have to go to someone's house. Anytime I take them they're always a hit and cheap. Will def be catering from them for my dessert table at my wedding read more
