Took my mother-in-law (no jokes please she truly is a lovely lady!), to Nova Era yesterday mid-afternoon. I needed a late lunch and she needed a nice pastry. This location smells wonderful. Just that indicates how great the bread will taste and it indeed does. They also have a nice assortment of pastries. If you couple that with excellent coffee, you have a winning combination. I had their Nova Era club sandwich, on a fresh ciabatta like bun. A well-travelled friend, with whom I lunched in Lisbon, got me turned on to Portuguese style baking. He asserted that the bread in that country was the best in Europe. I harrumphed, being a Francophile, but was proven wrong. They do say that "the proof of the pudding is.....". This bakery just does that fantastic bread and nice interpretation of a club sandwich loaded with a breast of chicken. It was very delicious. My lunch companion had a 'mutant' chocolate croissant, with chocolate filling and drizzle. She took one half home as it was too much to finish. She had an expresso which she said would "wake up the dead", and I had an Americano which was perfect. I have been there 3 times and its always consistent, simple and yummy! They have a bunch of locations around town, and they have Epi and Cobs beaten cold. In the general realm only Nino D'Aversa comes close. They have far better servive than the competition. Try it!

Pastel de Nata. Would've been great if they didn't taste like plastic/bleach

I always go to Nova Era for Portuguese Tarts but have never been in this location so I went there yesterday and it was so packed which I thought is a good sign. Got a Mochaccino and a dozen tarts, loved the mochaccino. However the tarts were such a waste of money. The whole batch taste like plastic/bleach.

Here she is. A Nova Era pork Bifana

This review is from 2014. Lol.. I am from Vancouver which has little to no Portuguese presence compared to Toronto. All I can say say is the Bifana I ordered was absolutely amazing. Fresh, tasty and filling. Good coffee and very nice ladies that were friendly.. I am coming back to TO for a day and my mission is to have a Bifana here Space is also big and good for a group.

    Comfy seating area.

Service is extremely slow, even when the café is empty. Most of the waitresses aren't very polite. The wifi doesn't work well, and the coffee is awful. Some of the cashiers will round up the price when I pay with debit, which they're not supposed to do. Watch out. Sometimes, the servers ask the seated customers for their orders from behind the counter, instead of walking up to the table. They constantly mess up orders. However, the food is fresh, and the seats are comfortable. They have soy milk, which is great, because I'm lactose intolerant. The pastries are delicious! Although Nova Era isn't perfect, it's better than Caledonia Bakery. I always walk the extra bit to Nova Era instead.

The ham and cheese sandwich paninis are delicious. Unfortunate the customer service is lacking--very slow service, could use some serious improvement. Overall it was good

What a gem! This bakery is tucked into the southeast corner…read moreof Yonge & College, and walking inside feels like stepping straight into Japan. The pastries and mochi breads are absolutely exquisite! I tried the black sesame mochi bread--light, pillowy, and filled with a delightful little white mochi surprise. The crème brûlée almond tart was incredible too, with its thick, eggy custard and a blueberry-almond center. And the Hitotoki matcha tart? Gorgeous and just perfect. It was my first visit, and I discovered the bakery through their 2nd-anniversary IG post. I bought about $20 worth of treats and got to spin their prize wheel--and I actually won the Grand Prize: a limited-edition gold Nespresso & milk frother kit! I literally jumped for joy. Yet another reason to love this incredible bakery!

It was okay. Tried three items:…read more Matcha Lava Tart - The staff said this had the strongest matcha flavour among their matcha items. But there was no "lava" at all... just a layer of cream sitting on a thick tart base. You do get some matcha flavour, but definitely not that rich and flowing matcha sauce I saw in those online reels. Matcha Mont Blanc - Too sweet. The green noodle-shaped topping is actually made from a kind of bean paste - not much matcha taste, but had a strong bean flavour instead. And again, it was too sweet to my liking. Taro Tart - This one was good. Taro-flavoured cream on top, with taro paste underneath, then a layer of custard with mochi at the bottom. Had a rich taro flavour. Still a bit sweet, but not as overwhelming as the Mont Blanc. Overall it was not bad, although TBH I haven't really found great matcha desserts in Toronto so far.

My wife always judges a French Cafe by their Butter Croissant ($3.00) and she liked it! She also noticed all the  staff speak French sp it gives it even more legitimacy.  She also ordered a Flat White ($4.50) which was also good. I ordered a Plum Almond Tart ($7.25) because it was the prettiest. It was super delicious so it was definitely a good choice! Service was courteous and friendly. You place your order at the counter and bring it to your table. Someone will come around to clear the dishes when you are done It is a great place to have a nice casual time eating and socializing. They make all their food in-house in the basement. There are products for sale such as coffee beans, fruit syrup, maple syrup, smoked sauces, olive oil, scented soap, wine glassware, etc. I will definitely come back again to try other items. There is free WiFi. The neo-bisto is not wheelchair accessible since there are stairs leading up to the entrance. There are two gender-neutral washrooms. There is free street parking on their one-way south-bound street. Review 2023-017

Hopped on my bike and a half hour later I was there. The friendly staff helped me by answering my question regarding eggs and which items did not have any in the recipes. This place was also super poppin' when I got there. It was earlish in the day around 10:30am and it seemed all the tables were pretty much taken. They are adding a dinner menu which is very exciting. Their pastries are phenomenal!!! Picked up a plum and pistachio tart, a chocolate mousse cake and an apple Danish for my mom. Plus a chocolate caramelized croissant. So much butter, and yet so good. Brought my container, which they happily used. The last time I visited this spot back in 2022, I vowed I would come back and take up space in that beautiful bay window seat. Yet I haven't followed through with that yet. One day. They also changed the name, since I was there last it was called Le Conciliabule Lab. Le Conciliabule means, "speak easy", as their website says. It was used back in the day to describe a place where people would come together and talk about everything and nothing. I can definitely say that happens here. What a beautiful concept, "everything and nothing". Now named Bisou, which means kiss. That's actually really simple and sweet. Since every pastry and any food item or beverage enjoyed here is a kiss for your tastebuds. Love it. Keep going team. You are amazing!
