I have had Doug do several projects around my house.  First, he put in a back door and ramp off my back bedroom, then he put up a free-standing awning that a handyman could not install because he couldn't figure out how to do it.  Doug put up this awning all by himself, and it's quite heavy and awkward. When I first met Doug shortly after moving into my home, Doug noticed that the water heater was not vented.  The building inspector failed to notice this and did not report it.  Doug said that the water heater door, which faces outside, was not up to code and the heat buildup could cause a fire.  On further examination, Doug noticed that, yes, a small fire had occurred and melted a plastic part. Doug immediately went to the hardware store, bought a vent plate, cut the proper opening in the door and installed the vented plate. I do not hesitate to leave Doug alone in my home while he works if I'm gone.  He is very honest, is good to my dogs and his prices are very reasonable -- so reasonable, in fact, that I add to my payment and chastise him for not asking for more.

The old concrete patio was cracked and lifting everywhere, there were deep tree roots, a rusted, disintegrated wrought iron fence and gate that were tied to chicken wire to keep from falling over, a concrete step right in the middle of the yard which was both a tripping hazard and divided the already small yard into two even smaller sections, and a small area around the back which was overgrown and unusable. My husband and I kept saying, "We need to do something about the backyard", but we had no idea where to begin. Sean was very generous with his time before starting the project, meeting with my husband and me many times to help us hone in on what we wanted. He listened to everything I wanted and everything my husband wanted and when we had a question or weren't sure, or when my husband and I couldn't agree on something like what type of patio we wanted, ie. flagstone, pavers, concrete, etc. , Sean would humbly make recommendations or suggestions and I can honestly tell you that he was always right. He knows what he is doing and the best decisions we made were when we listened to him...because he listened to us. Sean and his team created beauty out of nothing...worse than nothing...they first had to take out the mess that was there. Things didn't always go easily. With any project there will be unforeseen challenges, but HOW your professionals handle that is key. Sean is a class act and always took care of everything with complete professionalism and courtesy. Throughout the project Sean always let us know what to expect which helped smooth the way with our HOA and kept us in good graces with our neighbors. When it came to dealing with permits, inspections, etc. Sean knew what was required and we knew we were in excellent hands. He was responsive with emails, texts and calls, and in short, never ever left us hanging or in doubt about anything. Whatever project was being worked on: demolition, laying the conduits and drains, designing the patio, pouring the concrete, the precise layout of the pavers, installing a glass fence and gate instead of the rusty iron rail, creating and building a beautiful fireplace and seat bench from scratch, lighting and electrical, plants and softscape, even the design of the drains, etc., Sean found the right workers and teams for each job and every detail was done with care and to perfection. I cannot say enough good things. Choosing Sean and Van Slyke Landscape was one of the best decisions we've ever made. They transformed our backyard mess into a place of beauty and peace. I would liken no longer using this landscaping company to removing an infected abscess. There are…read moreso many things wrong with their so-called "maintenance", I wouldn't know where to start. Basically they are untrustworthy, neglectful, dishonest and incompetent. What they say they will do, is not what you will get, or they will just not do it. They charge over twice as much as other services and work far less hours than they state they will and do not give you the services that they charge for. Our yard was filled with healthy plants before we hired them, half died throughout the months they began, by the time we switched over to another service they had killed over half the yard and we spent thousands of dollars repairing the yard with another service. Our new service is extremely competent , they listen to what we need done in the yard and get it accomplished with care and knowledge. Terri was overall very difficult to deal with, she was moody and could be very nasty and rude. She would never take any accountability for her actions and negligence that lead to damage in the yard by herself and the crew. It took a long time to recover from how awful the yard looked after using them, they are just the worst service we have ever had to deal with.
