    Best Garage Door Company!

I called NorthGate Garage Doors on Monday June, 10 and spoke to Tim. told Tim my problem and he put me on hold, came back and said he would have Greg out at my house in Novato that morning. i received a txt telling me he was on the way. Met Greg, and he confirmed I needed a new Garage Door and all the stuff that was required since buying the garage door 1993. I got the estimate late in the afternoon. I ordered the door with everything I need on Wednesday June 12. On June 20, the door was installed my Mike. Mike was so clean and organized. You could not ask for a more professional team to work with. I hope to never need a Garage Door again. However, if I do, it will be from NorthGate garage door. Thank you, Team, for a great job.

Great new door! Thank you Dale and Christian!

Yesterday (Sun,…read more1/25/26) we had an uneven load issue resulting in the improper tension and the two end lift cables misaligning the door so I frantically called and requested service via their online tool. Josh got back to me within a half hour asking for photos and descriptions to aid in resolution which I provided. Amazingly Josh scheduled their technician Matt for an appointment the next morning (Monday)..! Well Matt was incredibly understanding and quickly assessed the series of tasks to release the door, adjust the spring/torsion and accommodate for the slightly uneven driveway to ensure an even bottom seal. Further, Matt re-aligned the tracks, bracing, inspected and lubricated the rollers. It's still boggling to me that Matt was able to accomplish this repair in less than an hour.! I wish I could give Matt and "Door Pros" 10 stars instead of just 5. I wholeheartedly recommend "Door Pros" to everyone who not only needs a better garage door but also the years of support, service and trust you gain with great products. Thank you so much Matt! - Phil R.

The kind of guy that promises you the best in the world. Well when they delivered the door to install it the door was still wet from the stainer Door Pros had stain it. They swore it would be fine! Fast forward to 2026. I have had Door Pros out over 20 times to try and get the door properly working but every Tom, Dick, and Harry (smokers who smelled like a tobacco factory) they sent must have never been to garage door repair school. Joe the lead technician in the beginning told us the door needed to be taken off and sheetrock cut out so the door would run properly. The next Joe Schmoooo told us something different. So every guy that came out in 3 years had a different story. The last guy 2 months ago said it was installed wrong and he would have the owner call me next week but NEVER a call back. I even spoke with Josh the owner a few years ago and he said they would make it good. We finally said GOOD RIDDANCE to Door Pros. They aren't Pros at all. Just a company that gives a lot of talk and gives you no action. We called another company in SF and in once visit they told us Door Pros had installed the whole door wrong. Wrong springs, bend rails, etc. etc. The door after one visit works beautifully. So stay away from Door Pros. Listen to your gut. I wish I did as we wasted 3 years of our lives with that awful company. Too many photos to post but believe me I have them in a file of companies NOT TO USE.

He also wanted $600 to lower the door prior to assessing and quoting on recommended repairs. Garage door company #2 sent a rep that was still very aggressive, but at least they were able to get the door in a somewhat functional condition (door rollers back on the rails, cabling back on the drums, spring tension redone) for $200. It was functioning in manual mode, but in automatic, the door would stop 2/3s of the way down and go back up. Company #2 incorrectly diagnosed the problem as an internal issue with the limits on the door opener. They also wouldn't give a straight quote or a recommendation on what to fix. It was more of an a la carte - if you want to replace the springs, $699; cables + drums + springs ($1529); garage door opener $2500+. This would be like going to a car mechanic for squeaky brakes and getting menu pricing of replacing each part of your car. I digress... here's the actual review: Because of the first two companies, I was ready for more shenanigans from Gil's. However, the representative that arrived was a breath of fresh air. Avi examined the area and gave us his assessment. The door was balanced and no visible issues with any of the parts. The Chamberlain wall mount unit was unlikely to be the issue as they are fairly robust units and probably just needed reprogramming. I told him I wanted to try and reprogram it myself and asked for a quote on a replacement in case it was an opener issue. Avi was extremely professional, honest, and taught us a little about the mechanics of the door opening system. Even though we were able to resolve the problem, I would definitely go with Gil's for any major repair. After seeing all three repairmen, I took some time on the weekend to see if there was anything I could adjust. I noticed the rail was two separate pieces of metal and that they weren't aligned perfectly with each other. I used an adjustable wrench to bend the rails a little to fix that. I also added some lubricant to the rails and cleaned the safety sensors as well. Garage door is working like a charm now.

I called on March 21 and requested a new garage door. On March 25 Josh Keen arrived and managed to tell me his whole life story while preparing the estimate. He did not see or ask me if I wanted a key pad. I was told that Keen had my garage door in stock at one of their neighboring businesses and that once the door was sent to Santa Rosa they would be in touch. On April 22, Derek arrived and installed the garage door but it was not the one that I had ordered and set aside for me. I ordered a garage door with windows and Keen installed one without windows. Another round of appointments were made and a worker came and dropped off the window panel for the upper part of the garage door. A few hours later another worker came and installed the panel and took the solid panel with him. He said another worker would be coming that same day with the key pad. I questioned if he had the right one and was assured he did. Of course he had 2 key pads on the truck but neither were compatible with my door!! You would think that at this point Keen Garage doors would expedite the case to simply install a key pad. But no!! They place me in the appointment queue and offer a complimentary one year membership to have my door serviced. What a joke. Who has time to set up appointments and deal with incompetent office people and workers. Finally on May 6 the key pad was installed. I wondered if this outfit had ever installed garage doors before and I also wonder how they stay in business.

I was informed of a price around $200-300 for single or both springs, plus labor (which many places would not provide unless I had them come out first). It seems like the price could vary depending on the garage door style, size, and weight. Also, another place had quoted me $485 right off the bat therefore this was the best option so far. They let me know that the technician would have all the necessary parts and tools for whatever option I go with (very convenient). Technician Sam called me to notify he was on the way and when he arrived outside. Upon arrival, he inspected our garage and said it would be more than quoted since I had a heavy door (~$400-500). He provided us with two different priced options, differing in expected lifespan and labor (~$100) warranties. The job was estimated to take around 30 mins, depending on if there was complications with the existing parts. Sam was very professional and knowledgeable with all the mechanics and components. He let us know more about what we had installed and what could potentially fail or cause us issues in the future. He also gave us recommendations on how to properly maintain the garage door to prolong it's functionality and life. After we made our choice, he began working right away. During this time, he came to get our attention and let us know that the bearings needed to be replaced soon and we just asked him to do them since it was already disassembled and the labor cost was flat rate. It all ended up taking closer to an hour, and despite the higher than anticipated expense... we felt very assured and satisfied with the outcome we received. We love supporting family owned businesses, especially when they provide great quality and service! Highly recommend.

Long, long overdue updated review (previous review was from a tenant that quickly wrote it after…read morebeing requested to when the job was done): Absolutely atrocious installation, and very, very unprofessional. The garage door installed was not the one that was negotiated during our call, which had a few other additions to it. The installer even FORGOT TO BRING one with a MAIL SLOT!! Unbelievable!! After realizing a garage door does indeed need a mail slot, he said "Oh, well, don't worry, this one is on the house, it's on me man!" like it was some kind of favor or nice thing to do, then expressed "I have to go all the way to Home Depot to get it, but since I'm a nice guy I'll do this for you this one time." I couldn't believe what I was hearing, he seriously thought it wasn't his fault. He then proceeded to install the most ghetto mail slot, it wasn't even straight or aligned correctly, not stainless steel, and when inserting your hand through the top part of the metal that he cut snags the top of your hand and can cut you. The metal part he cut even covers at least 1/3 of the insert hole! He also did not install the new chain that came with the garage door opener and kept saying it's not needed and is an "extra job" to do. Anything that was said that wasn't satisfactory he kept saying "it's fine, it's fine, don't worry about it" and "you don't have to care so much about it, why do you care about these things? I think it's fine and nobody can see it anyway," while there were some dents on the "new" garage door after he installed it when it was pointed out. Even when asked "if you installed it like this at your place, would you be fine with it?" He replied, "I don't really think it's a big deal." So unprofessional. He also tried to upsell me on railings and wheels, and other things I didn't need. Furthermore, when he was contacted about everything, he told my tenant "I'm not the main installer guy, the other guys that work at this company are way better and they can install them 100% correctly, but since they weren't available I had to go out and do it." I can't believe this kind logic and all these excuses, and still expected to be paid fully like nothing was wrong or weird. Very dishonest company and will try to use any excuse to half-ass their job or laziness, as well as using ways and saying things in a way to make the customer "feel bad" or "uncomfortable" to not speak up to them or mention something off. Ever since then, the garage does not properly close, having to get out and hold down the button from the inside since the sensors think there is something in the way or wrong with the rail alignment, the door is super loud, even making a really big "bang" sound each time it goes opens and closes. The garage door hasn't been able to close normally for quite a long, long time now, by garage door remote or normal wall button, often times having to manually close it by hand as well! Also reading other reviews, I was also told that there was tax and was charged for it when maintenance and service labor isn't taxable. Stay away from this company, please! The low star ratings are here for a reason!
