We had a garage door issue and Gil's was the 3rd garage door company that we talked to. Garage door company #1 sent a rep that was very pushy and super sketch. He also wanted $600 to lower the door prior to assessing and quoting on recommended repairs. Garage door company #2 sent a rep that was still very aggressive, but at least they were able to get the door in a somewhat functional condition (door rollers back on the rails, cabling back on the drums, spring tension redone) for $200. It was functioning in manual mode, but in automatic, the door would stop 2/3s of the way down and go back up. Company #2 incorrectly diagnosed the problem as an internal issue with the limits on the door opener. They also wouldn't give a straight quote or a recommendation on what to fix. It was more of an a la carte - if you want to replace the springs, $699; cables + drums + springs ($1529); garage door opener $2500+. This would be like going to a car mechanic for squeaky brakes and getting menu pricing of replacing each part of your car. I digress... here's the actual review: Because of the first two companies, I was ready for more shenanigans from Gil's. However, the representative that arrived was a breath of fresh air. Avi examined the area and gave us his assessment. The door was balanced and no visible issues with any of the parts. The Chamberlain wall mount unit was unlikely to be the issue as they are fairly robust units and probably just needed reprogramming. I told him I wanted to try and reprogram it myself and asked for a quote on a replacement in case it was an opener issue. Avi was extremely professional, honest, and taught us a little about the mechanics of the door opening system. Even though we were able to resolve the problem, I would definitely go with Gil's for any major repair. After seeing all three repairmen, I took some time on the weekend to see if there was anything I could adjust. I noticed the rail was two separate pieces of metal and that they weren't aligned perfectly with each other. I used an adjustable wrench to bend the rails a little to fix that. I also added some lubricant to the rails and cleaned the safety sensors as well. Garage door is working like a charm now. read more

I called and was offered a same day appointment which was nice, even though I had a non-urgent issue. The technician arrived on time and had called earlier to give me an ETA too. Honestly, the whole appointment was really confusing for me. I'm not sure if it just depends on the technician, but I didn't get that "free quote/estimate" as advertised on Gil's website. I felt like there was a lot of upselling initially, such as pressure to get entirely new cables, rollers, and springs when my initial concern was the gap between the door and floor (potential rodent entry). When I questioned if this was really necessary and that I wasn't interested in pursuing any of those services same day, the technician made comments such as "when it breaks let me know" which was unsettling. Later he did say that I could reuse the rollers and cables I already had to save money which changed the tone of things. He also kept asking personal questions which was uncomfortable. At the end of the appointment, I was slapped with a $721 bill - for what??? Note, if you want to avoid the 3% charge, they recommend paying via Zelle or Venmo (they did refund me the $21 (3%)) since I paid via Zelle. Initially the technician just asked me to Zelle/Venmo him (I didn't even know the amount yet!), but I refused without seeing some kind of invoice first which I did receive in the customer portal minutes later and did pay. Anyways, after the technician had left, I called back to ask for clarification on the services with the price breakdown (learned that it was $175 each for panel repair, motor limit adjustment, springs retention, door rebalanced). I contacted the company again to seek clarification on the services such as whether or not there's standard pricing or if written contracts are typically utilized. I wish there was more explanation on the services. I guess the technician/company could tell I was confused about the situation and at least offered to rectify the situation a few days later which they did. They wanted to emphasize customer satisfaction which I do appreciate. I think the overall experience would've been much more pleasant if everything was in writing and there was actually a (no-pressure) free estimate as advertised. Overall, I don't think Gil's Garage Door & Gate Services has any ill intent and they do value customer satisfaction. Maybe it just depends on the technician. Also recommend buddying up with someone during the appointment to avoid being asked personal questions or reduce possible upselling. Other than that, Gil's work quality seems fine and they are very quick. read more

I have not utilized Gil's Garages yet...however their pre-game is great. I was able to narrow down a team that I could afford, give feedback, and depend on. What I like most was that they provide their own finance company. I was quoted about $2700 for my special size garage, I think 14 x 7. And given the option to put $1000 down to start the order and fabrication of the door and installment payments of less than $350 a month to finish the deal. Who can beat that! Fantastic business and I can't recommend them highly enough after having other "free estimates" upsell me in other areas such as electricians. Our garage door lights have been continuously going on all night due to a malfunctioning motion sensor. I called and set up a free estimate visit today. I received a message to confirm my appointment this morning and David was courteous enough to give me a call fifteen minutes before his arrival and asked where he can park. He reviewed the situation and called his supervisor who walked him through how to manually disable the motion sensors on our panels with left side buttons I never knew about (see pictures). He tested it out and told me he will call tomorrow to see if the lights went on again overnight and if the problem was resolved. David also showed me the new LED models by Liftmaster that have built in cameras and sent me a detailed quote with all the features and explained the lifetime warranty and Gil's 4 year warranty on the parts as well as the battery backup feature which is great in case of a power failure or emergency. There is a keypad panel that comes with the new models for opening the garage without the remote from the outside. Nice feature for getting into the house without a key. Will definitely ask for this new model with the LED and camera for my birthday present to make it easier to back my car up into a tight garage space and I know which company and technician I'll be using. My garage wouldn't close with the remote despite all attempts to troubleshoot as instructed in the manual and online. Sometimes there is no substitute for a competent professional. I looked at several companies on Yelp and decided to call Gil's. The service rep was able to get me an appointment the next morning and the technician notified me by text 20 minutes before arriving as they said he would. After he arrived, we tested the door and of course, it worked fine. But eventually he was able to see it fail and he said he would evaluate the system and text me when he was ready to give me the good (or bad) news. He was very efficient and thorough. He presented me with the optional solutions and talked me through the costs. We settled on trying the easiest, least expensive solution, which was to replace the sensors. When all was said and done, my door worked and didn't cost me half a paycheck. He did advise that it may need additional work down the line, but now I know exactly who to call! read more

These guys are great. My garage door broke around noon on a Thursday. I called them later in the day hoping they could come on Friday. They scheduled a Friday appointment, but asked if the technician could come Thursday evening if his current job finished early. It did and he did, and my door got fixed Thursday evening. Their prices are competitive and while only one pulley broke, they replaced the other one, too, so that I don't have to have them come out and fix that one later. Our 25 year old Genie garage door opener become dislodged and inoperable earlier this week. The garage door arm dislocated from its bracing with a very loud thud. I had previously had a great experience for a repair done in early 2024 from Gil's Garage Door & Gate Services. I immediately called Gil, who had a fellow by the name of Jacob come out to my house the same day, late in the afternoon. Jacob quickly and efficiently diagnosed the issue. He replaced my old garage door opener with a new Lift Master LED opener. He was professional, efficient and proactive in his installation process. Jacob also suggested that we replace the garage door springs I agreed and another person from Jacob's team (Emilio) arrived the next morning, installed the springs, adjusted and tuned the new garage door opener and updated the bracing for the opener. He noted that one of the garage door hinges was bent. He suggested I replace both hinges, which I quickly agreed to. He installed and tuned the hinges. The door and hardware work perfectly now and are super quiet. The pricing for the work done was fair and reasonable. I made an appointment because my garage door wouldn't open. I scheduled an appointment for the next day. They gave me a noon-2 window for the arrival time. Around 12:30 the tech called and said the job he was on was taking longer then expected and he thought he would arrive closer to 2, but would text when he was on the way. I recieved the text about 30 minutes later. He arrived before 2. When they got to my house, I walked them through the problems I thought I was having. Aryeh verified that things looked good and asked me to try the opener. The door opened. I felt a bit dumb. He reassured me that things like this can happen. He did recommend doing a service on the system. I had them do it because I have no idea how long it has been since any mainenace had been completed. He also programmed two new opners for me. I've previously had hit-or-miss experiences with the Yelp Project feature of requesting quotes from multiple service providers at once. The free-for-all approach usually means shooting fish in a barrel, but in this case, Gil turned out to be a great find and one I can recommend to other homeowners without hesitation. It started with the automatic garage opener I had been using for my home. The opener predated my purchase of the house by well over three decades. A couple of years ago, the door started to open just to the midway point, and I had to manually push the door the rest of the way to get it open. So much for automatic. The situation recently got worse to the point where I thought I'd get a hernia if I continued my Flintstones-era practice. So I used Yelp project and received responses from all five producers on their short list. However, it was Gil who was not only the fastest but the most conscientious. In other words, he did something unusual. He listened. Gil came by *on time* the following day and saw that a screw just needed to be tightened to address the most immediate problem. I was grateful because he did the fix for free and didn't make me feel like an idiot for not knowing to do that two years ago. He also didn't try to push me to buy a new opener, which I appreciated. At the same time, we recognized the age of my opener didn't allow me to add a battery back-up feature. As you know, during the most severe periods of the California forest fires, PG&E was cutting off the power frequently and over long periods, and I feared my car would be stuck in the garage just when I needed to escape. Given that well-founded fear plus the presence of two other garage doors with automatic openers of equal vintage, I asked him if he could install three new operators. Gil gave me an estimate within a half-hour of his visit, which I found quite reasonable, and we set up an appointment right away. Gil came by *on time* and did the job himself over the course of 4-1/2 hours, which was exactly how long he said it would take.
