FIRST, the ladies who work there are awesome. That was my first impression. Now, we moved to the area this last year and I apparently convinced myself I'd never need a refill even though the company called me several times for me to schedule one. Then, "all of a sudden" my tank was at zero, panic central! I went in today and not only was the costumer service great BUT they are coming same day to save us and refill the tank. Horrible service, and they lie. They will interrupt you, promise you gas, and never show...I paid $500 and two weeks later ..nothing. They charge you extra if you go to zero, so I called someone else, they filled it no problem. Then employees from Northern Sierra showed up like an armed gang, and put a lock on the propane tank... I've been an excellent customer since 2005. My husband is in the hospital so I've been out-of-town and collecting mail on weekly basis and checking on our house. I came home to find no heat, I'd left thermostat at 60 degrees. I immediately contacted a technician for the Heating and Air, along with paying the expense of such a technician only to find that I'm out of propane. I call Hunts Oil and Propane (formally Northern Propane) and they told me that the company didn't refill because I was past due on my account. Just to say, this company doesn't bill on a monthly basis, it is as they fill your tank. I asked WHY I didn't I receive notification. I was told the company called me three times in March. I told this company that I received no such notifications. The Manager? gave me the number that they called, and I didn't recognize it. We have had the same 3 numbers for over 15 years. I never got a slip in my door or a letter (which I collect weekly). I believe it is illegal to turn off a person's heat without PROPER notification! Hence, the manager COULD NOT SEEM to understand WHY I was justifiably angry. She was condescending! I told her I planned to transfer my business elsewhere, she tried to shoot down the reasons, said they could fill it up but I had 10 minutes to decide; I said NO. Then, she told me I WOULD BE COLD and I told her I was going back to the hospital to be with my husband. Initially, she agreed to pick up their outdated equipment on this day and then, it turned into tomorrow. LOUSY CUSTOMER SERVICE AND I BELIEVE ILLEGAL BUSINESS PRACTICES, I recommend others to go elsewhere! read more

I moved into a new house and the property already had a Northern Sierra tank on it. I was hesitant to use them because of the overwhelming number of awful reviews on this site. I had used amerigas before and they were fine, not great, but the delivered my propane, usually within 2 weeks. But I figured that trusting strangers on the internet was a bold choice given rampant selection bias in reviews, so I said YOLO and called up Northern Sierra and asked if I could sign up with them. I could always cancel if it was the nightmare other review make it out to be. The receptionist was incredibly kind and helpful. I spent a few minutes on the phone with her and about 5 minutes filling out forms. When she found out I was under 5%, she said she would do what she could to get someone out the next day. The delivery driver did indeed show up the next day, was a friendly guy, filled up the tank quickly, and went on his way. From initial phone call to fill-up was less than 24 hours. Everyone I spoke to was kind and helpful. Some notes: I live maybe 15 minutes from their office and it is the summer, so if you're ever going to get good service, it's when you live close and demand is low. Maybe all the other reviewers had bad experiences in the dead of winter living 45 minutes away down an unmaintained dirt road. Final note, this is my first yelp review. I'm not the type to write them. It just seemed stupid to have so many bad reviews here when my experience was quite the opposite. Felt only fair to add some additional data. This is the most UNPROFESSIONAL and NEGLIGENT company I have ever encountered. One of their service members, DAVID entered my sisters property to fill a tank today. He pepper sprayed my nieces extremely friendly dog because according to the manager he was very "hostile". Then some how DAVID, forgot to mention that before he left (the dog was so hostile but still slipped his mind to let us know that he pepper sprayed my dog). This very negligent decision, resulted in my dog going to the vet but even more disturbing then that, this also resulted in my FOUR YEAR OLD NIECE in the ER due to BEING SICK FROM A CHEMICAL SUBSTANCE KNOWN AS PEPPER SPRAY! When DAVID was confronted by his employers, they were told that DAVID said he used hair spray. Well unlucky for DAVID, that's not what the toxicology report states from not only the vet, but also my daughters ER report from SUTTER AUBURN FAITH HOSPITAL! This company thinks that covering my ER bill and vet bill should be enough. We don't, so we will see them in court! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY IF YOU CAN AVOID IT. It took me a month to get my tank refilled and when they finally did, the driver hit a pipe coming off my well pump breaking off the water line to my home. I'm a single mom with 2 kids, I don't know how to fix this stuff on my own! So $325 for an emergency call to a Joe@Blake Pipeline and a day without water (because this all took place on the weekend), here we arrive at this review. I realize the storms backed up service so the delay in delivering propane was semi understandable, but after this mistake and no offer to make it right, I'm left feeling sore and disappointed I have this service. read more

!! WARNING!! They were supposed to deliver a tank and fill it on a Friday. I called them everyday that week to confirm because I had a painting company and flooring company coming over the weekend paint and install the flooring and the house needed to be warm. They never showed up and did not even have the respect to CALL me not let me know. If I knew I could have rented heaters. This cost me over $1000 because I still had to pay the workers. They don't have the best price in town. But they can be reliable, sometimes. Actually they come to my road on mondays. But sometimes they are 'short on drivers' and they can't make it for two weeks. People on the phone can be helpful, sometimes. Or like today I told her my tank was at 15% thinking they would be out the following Monday. But since it's a holiday they won't be able to make it until the next Monday, almost two weeks away. I said I won't make it until then and she said there was nothing she could do. Ok so I Called Sierra Propane for a partial fill of 150 and now you have to pay before they deliver to you which was 440 dollars in itself others to fill was gonna be 660 around that. They came and filled my entire tank!!! And when I called no accountability whatsoever and I still had to pay for somthing I didn't ask for! Then today I get a bill of 216 dollars and I didn't even have a anyone fill my tank! No original receipt saying how much was put in and I know for a fact it wasn't filled because it was just filled and paid! Seriously??? No accountability?? You know I literally don't have the money to pay for this BS when it wasn't filled ill pay for the amount that was ment to be paid but not 216 dollars there's definitely an error. Just got off the phone with Northern Sierra Propane, appalled that after they 100% admitted filling the tank was their error (even though they had a no-auto fill on file) and all they could do is offer $0.11 per gallon off the price. What!!! So for a bill of $232.06 they offered $10.09 credit for their error!!! What ever happened to customer service and doing whatever it takes to make the customer feel like they want to continue using them??? They offered NOTHING....I will never recommend them to anyone--what will that cost them?? Bad choice Northern Sierra. read more

We have had this company for 4 years and have watched their customer service take a huge nose dive. Thankfully we only need around one delivery a year, once we finish the propane we have we will have them take their tank and find another company. read more

NORTHERN SIERRA PROPANE ARE THIEVES!!! The next day after I wrote the previous review, without notification Wendy @ Northern Sierra Propane had their driver TRESPASS ON MY PROPERTY and took the propane tank (that had been recently filled and paid for a week ago) and told me it was because I threaten to take them to small claims. I have no trespassing signs and a gate and had no notification they were going to take it. She told me they can take their equipment anytime they want per their contract. I told her I wanted to be reimbursed for the fill of propane that they took with the tank and she replied it would take 4-6 weeks to pay me back. NOT ONLY DID THEY NOT REIMBURSE ME FOR THE LOSS OF PROPANE FROM THEIR MISTAKE ON LEAK BUT THEY TRESPASSED AND TOOK THE TANK AND THE NEW GAS THAT I JUST FILLED , PAID FOR AND REFUSED TO PAY ME IN A REASONABLE TIME ...in 4-6 weeks?? THIS COMPANY ROBBED ME. Now Wendy, how fake can you be with that comment on my last review, apologetic for the bad experience? You took my tank without notifying me and refuse to reimburse me? Please...don't explain to me how propane works, explain to me how can YOU be such a CROOK...your company should be shut down. I should call the sherriff FOR TRESPASSING AND STEALING and will be seeing you in court. I have been told by others after the fact NOT TO USE your company, your company is known to be thieves. After switching from Amerigas, anything would be great, quite honestly. But Patti went above and beyond to be accommodating, she knew her stuff and was a pleasure to speak with. When the techs came out, they were equally as wonderful. Even if they were more expensive than the other companies, I would probably still go to them for their customer service alone- BUT THEY'RE CHEAPER! This is the kind of company I want to support and have in my community for a long time to come. read more

We have been with NSP for well over 12 years and have experienced nothing but great customer service. I know propane gets high in the winter months, but they are more than willing to work with you on your bill. We had to have our regulator replaced and of course it was at 5:30 in the morning when we noticed the problem. Called the answering service and they relayed the message to Mike. He called us and was out to us within the hour, driving on icy roads as well. That's what I call "customer service" Thanks Wendy, you and the girls in the office are always so nice to talk to you....keep up the great service. read more

The other reviews must be fake cause their prices are some of the highest in the area. If you've been with them for several years your cost per gallon is way high. You have to call and threaten to change providers to get the cost back down. The owner is nothing less than a thief read more

BUYER BEWARE!! They quoted 30 cents more per gallon for propane than the next highest quote in the area. When I confirmed the price, the lady was quite rude and glibly replied: Well, maybe you should call one of them back and get your tank filled. Sure am glad I own my tank and I'm not held hostage by this company. read more

We have had nothing but positive experiences with this company. The prices are great and they are always here when we need them. I think we have been a customer for over 10 years now and plan to be for another 10 or more. I would not switch companies if you paid me. :) read more
