After my chiropractor of many years had retired, I hesitantly started looking for a new chiropractor for a treatment. Dr. Early came on my online search as highly rated. So, I gave it a try. Right away, I noticed that his adjustments were very rough and painful. I thought it may be because it was a while since I have visited a chiropractor, but few weeks into my adjustments, I sustained a very painful injury during one (and last) of my adjustments by Dr. Early. It was beyond painful, that I had hard time keep breathing. It occurred in my left back rib cage area. I asked if I can have an X-ray to assure that nothing got broken, which the Dr. Early agreed to. After taking an X-ray he stated that he sees no breaks, but claimed X-rays can't always show cracks in the ribs. Fair enough. But, what puzzled me, was that, he did not offer to look at the X-rays with me, rather looked at them in the X-ray room by himself and came out to give me the "good" news. Mind you: When I initially came to his office, he took several X-rays for the diagnosis purpose, and looked over them with me in detail and explained what he was seeing and assembled the treatment plan for my condition. Upon the injury, and my panting in pain, he immediately (and defensively) stated that "this never happened in his entire career!", making my pain invalidated, while his entire approach was so ignorant toward my pain. Upon my injury, he immediately asked his front staff "not to send anyone (patients) to the treatment area", while I was there, sitting in horrible pain. I left the office in excruciating pain, and proceeded to an Urgent Care facility, where I was treated. This man, Dr. Early had no decency to place a call to me as a patient for six days to even ask how I was doing? Then six days later, he calls and leaves a voice message asking how I was. No remorse, no apology... I dealt with the pain for almost two months, and barely now feel recovered. So, if you are brave, go see this chiropractor! I would NOT RECOMMEND going there under any circumstances. Really puzzled where he got all the five star ratings??? Something doesn't add up here! P.S. A few months ago, I was having these annoying headaches. My neck and shoulders were so stiff that the discomfort level increased after each passing week. She operates out of Dr. Early's clinic and I will say, she applies just the right amount of pressure where you have that "hurts so good" type of pain I usually feel really great after an adjustment with Dr. Early AND a massage appointment with Janice right after. (Better than a McDonald's combo). On top of feeling physically better, I'm in a much better mental state of mind. Dr. Early and his staff were part of a big transition in my life and we held many philosophical discussions about life's challenges and being human. This i the best chiropractic experience I have ever had. They had an amazing deal going on where my first visit was only $35. This was including xrays, full first consult/exam. Dr. Early made it very clear that if he didn't see my issues as something he could help with, he wouldn't see me as a patient. Which is excellent, no one likes false hope. I was very badly injured by Dr. Paul Early when he did an overly aggressive and ham - handed adjustment on my spine and rib cage. He gave me a severe chest cavity sprain that resulted in two weeks of horrible pain and suffering. As a friend accurately described it, Dr. Early gave me a car accident. Immediately after the adjustment I could feel new and uncomfortable sensations that hadn't been there before he laid hands on me. By the next day, I couldn't breathe without intense pain. Acute, excruciating symptoms lasted for over two weeks. A visit to an emergency clinic two days later determined that I had a severe chest cavity sprain from his "adjustment". I couldn't sleep at night because lying in any one position created pressure causing stabbing pain that made sleep impossible. I couldn't bend forward without stabbing pain, I couldn't lift anything more than about 3 lb without creating pain, and my life was a living hell for two full weeks because of the wrongly executed and violent force of Dr. Early's so-called "treatment". I am writing this review because I don't want this to happen to anybody else. If people don't make public these kinds of injuries, unsuspecting patients can be setting themselves up for similar suffering an injury. My advice is to avoid this chiropractor at all costs. You don't want to go through what I went through. I suffered over two torturous weeks in a straight jacket of immobility in which the slightest movement provoked excruciating pain. The first time I've found relief in years! Since high school, I have suffered from burning pain in my shoulders and neck, especially during times of stress. I came to Sound Chiropractic about 3 months ago with back pain (shocking, I know). I've been had Chiropractic care before, and have had both very good and very negative experiences with them. The issue I had with my back wasn't responding to the normal ice and ibuprofen, so I looked on Yelp to see who was rated highly in Northgate. Pros: Very thorough initial exam - manual testing, x-rays, intake, range of motion testing - the works. Not everyone does that, and it was nice to get a baseline and have data to compare to later. The office staff is very helpful, were able to make calls to my insurance for me, and generally made it a pleasant experience to come in. As for the Chiropractic manipulation or "skill" - it seemed adequate. I've had worse and I've had better, but certainly no complaints or concerns at all about Dr. Early's skill. Keep in mind I'm not a Chiropractor myself, so I can only evaluate from a patient's perspective. They are also very flexible with scheduling and with last minute changes. I've got a long commute home, so my frequent arrival either 15min early or 10min late depending on traffic was always accommodated without complaint Cons: As part of the intake, I had to sign a "contract" for my health that agreed that I would do my part to get well and that the DC would do his part. Oh, and there was the amount of the whole treatment plan laid out in dollars right above where I signed. It was exactly like the experience I had buying a new car, where I had to sign the offer and the salesman ran back to check with his manager. I know it wasn't a legal contract, but he idea of it just turned me off. Additionally, there is a required Monday evening "class" that new patients have to take. It's basically a PowerPoint pitch about how great Chiropractic is. Along with a request to provide referrals. That was a universal experience I had with Dr. Early. I can think of no appointment where I was not solicited for referrals, asked about doing a Chiropractic demo at my office, asked to participate in a "contest" to where my referrals would get me tickets to win an iPad, etc. I was also asked to provide a great review on Yelp, and he was even handing out instructions at the office on how to create an account on Yelp and encouraging everyone to put a 5 star review. Which is why so many of the previews for this business are filtered. Bottom line: Nice people. Quality of care was acceptable - he forgot on several occasions about promises to show exercises, follow up, etc., but we're all human. The treatment was overshadowed by the sales pitch, so If you don't mind getting the hard sell every time you're in, you'll get the care you need. read more

This place put me on my feet after both my back and hip went out... I was going to another chiropractor who pretty much wasn't helpful at all. And I think they might have made me worse... but here, it was an absolutely delightful experience. I came here for the first time during the last year's awful winter. It was the only chiropractor place open in town, I'm sure, on that day. Dr. Early took X-Rays, did a thorough exam, took a thorough history, and started me on my way... he was encouraging when he had to be, too - and approached my health en total (rather than just paying attention to my back). And, unlike my last chiropractor, they didn't ding me $25 for forgetting an appointment, but understood that life happens. I came in for an auto accident, but when I mentioned i had a hip injury due to training for a marathon a few yrs ago, he began doing a little work on that each time, and was able to do what my MD, PT, etc had been unable to do. I can always get an appt within 15-30 minutes of the time I request, and they never keep me waiting. If I arrive early, they fit me in as soon as possible, and if I'm a little late, they don't cancel my appt like some places would--they still fit me in as soon as possible. When I started going to see Dr Early about six weeks ago, I had a lot of upper back and neck stiffness, a couple of pinched nerves, and pronounced weakness in my right side. I've had chronic low back pain for over 15 years that I learned to deal with after failed visits to other chiropractors. A friend recommended Dr Early after my pain got too unbearable, and I couldn't be more grateful. Why can't I give them 4.5 stars?? -.5 because they are upstairs. Why do I have to walk up stairs to see my chiropractor? This is the most painful part of seeing them... I was in a car accident earlier in the week. Hit n Run no less, with absolutely no clue/help as to how to go about getting better. I called the chiro recommended by my local doctor, and they didn't want to see me for over a week. Bah. I decided to search yelp for something new. Scary when coming to chiro's, but I read a lot of reviews and did the best I could... Dr. Early himself answered the phone, and in addition to being sympathetic, wound up giving up his lunch break to see me immediately that day. He spent over an hour creating an extensive report and plan, taking xrays and in depth questions to figure out where my real issues are. He also is a doctor that appears to be very much about "those who help themselves are better helped", and really stresses that my treatment is my responsibility. I really like this, it makes me much more confident he's going to do everything he can for me, but that ultimately, my healing is my job. I also experienced Mel, a massage therapist out of his office. She was truly so gentle to my thrashed muscles that I didn't realize she was doing much - but the difference from when I laid down to when I stood up was phenomenal. She has incredible hands and talent and I highly recommend her! My other massages in the past have consisted of beating my muscles to a pulp and calling it good - her gentle, soothing, stretching hands really seemed to have helped though. Another note should be added for Mandy, the receptionist, very kind and prompt. I know the first day I was in I was on pain killers, so not fully there, and she never made me feel stupid or awkward. She's always greeted me by name, and has a good sense of humor make you feel more at ease. All over, a great staff, and so far, a great experience. I scheduled an appt for tuesday 6 pm with dr. early. When i got there, with time to spare, i was told my appt was for wednesday which it wasn't since dr. early himself wrote down the appt. Instead of making room to see me since i moved my schedule around to accomodate (i was going to be a new patient, first time there) i was told i had to reschedule because they were expecting a new patient. I was nearly immobilized when I first came to Sound Chiropractic in January of 2009. My spine was zigzagging all over the place, and I was a starving artist out of options. I had gone to a couple other chiropractors that were very insensitive about my condition, and inflexible when it came to payment plans. Everyone at Sound Chiropractic is incredibly kind and compassionate, they took me in and worked out a great payment plan that worked for both parties, and helped me out of my extreme and constant lower back pain. While I began going to Sound Chiropractic in order to keep walking, I now go for the occasional maintenance adjustment. Now that I've been straightened out, and am now going to the gym...something I was afraid I wouldn't ever be able to do again. I often walked by the door to Sound Chiropractic working in the same building but never mad time to check it out. Finally one day as I was in pain from a stiff shoulder and weakened left arm I stopped by. Dr. Early got me in right away for an appointment, he addressed those pressing issues as well as chronic pain in my upper back from a accident on an ATV in 2007. The difference has been night and day- I thought I was just going to have to live with that daily pain in my upper back for the rest of my life- At my lowest point I was taking up to 2400mg of Ibuprofin daily, for multiple days in a row. I couldn't sleep comfortably even taking all that and was limited in my activities due to the pain. I used to love to cook and bake, and have over the last 4 years cut down dinners to quick fix meals. I was in pain and my husband's stomach was suffereing. Slowly with Dr. Early's constant care we are working my spine back into shape- In the last 2 months I have only taken Ibuprofin a handful of times. I'm getting my sleep now and have dived back into cooking and baking! Sound chiropractic is fantastic! Dr. Early listens to my pains and tells me what he can and can't do. I dislocated my hip, fractured the socket (SNAP!) And bruised my sciatic nerve. I can't really walk right, which causes some problems. When it gets too painful to walk with a normal gait, I get an adjustment and feel so much better. After a car wreck, I show up, use my personal injury protection on my car insurance and it can't raise my rates. This office deals with my evil insurance company, and I rarely have to do more than show up and receive expert care and warm greetings. One of two (sometimes both) wonderful receptionists will always greet me by name, make smalltalk and just be generally pleasant. I very much welcome this before noon, when I trend to frequent this place. Since discovering sound chiropractic over a year ago, my quality of life has improved drastically! read more
