Me and my other half were there Sunday for lunch. There were two teenage girls taking care of people as they came in. Well if that's what you want to call it. They were dressed like they just came from living off the streets. All they did were talk to each other and play with their cell phones. We were told the wait would be 20 minutes. The people ahead of us were still waiting after thirty minutes. A waitress told the one girl that there were two tables ready and still nothing, we all sat there another 20-25 minutes longer. Me and my husband got really frustrated and left. They really shouldn't have people that are not mature enough taking care of their customers. Fir the person who made rude comments about old and wrinkled, I am indeed old, wrinkled and do have underlying health conditions. This place suited me just fine. The tea was no where near too weak. Maybe that person like it straight out of the pot. I don't. To that person who said every dish was tasteless, all y'all must have had the Covid and lost your sense of smell and taste. We were away from home for the thanksgiving holiday and just HAD to visit the town that shared our last name on the way back, hence our search for something to eat in Denison, TX. There were only just a few great sounding options, so we went with one of the steakhouses, the North Rig Grill. There was no one up front to seat us, so we just sat ourselves in the bar area. The servers were dressed so casually, even in a bar environment, it was off-putting. It took at least 5 minutes to be acknowledged by our server. She tended everyone else with lightning speed, but was in NO RUSH to say Hi and take a drink order. When she finally did, I smiled and let her know it was our first time there and I inquired what types of drinks they had. Without even looking in our direction, she hurriedly said they were a full bar. Ohhhhkaaaaaayyy. We end up ordering a sweet tea and Arnold Palmer. Bad move as BOTH were horrible. So... in case you haven't read my other reviews, but my hubby is a disabled Army veteran and has a service dog, Maximus, and so Max is ALWAYS with us. The day's drive was a bit much, apparently, and Max started yacking foam on the concrete floor of the bar. Oops!!! How embarrassing! Poor thing was taken outside by my hubby and (thankfully for me) was pretty much on an empty stomach having skipped breakfast and lapped up just some water today so clean up was a breeze for me. Our server comes over and (without sounding concerned for our service dog or the situation we found ourselves in) she says, "what happened?! What happened?!" I say sheepishly that our dog got sick and so he was outside for a bit. She doesn't say anything and just walks away. Let's just say this bleeping beep doesn't ever return to serve us. My hubby and the pup return and we wait and wait... We are now greeted by a new server who seems to be in a wicked rush and takes our order. I swear to you, I was so irritated and was ready to ask to pay for our drinks and go eat and the restaurant next door. Of course it didn't help that the table next to us kept hitting the back of my chair, unapologetically might I add, but I just changed seats and was fine. So... let's talk FOOD! The hubby ordered a bacon cheeseburger (not a surprise) and fries and had no complaints. The burger looked super thick and tasty! I had the Flat Iron Steak, medium-rare with a wild rice and squash medley for sides. I was not disappointed! The steak was cooked perfectly, so very hard to find, and the squash medley was amazing. The food was the one redeeming factor in the whole North Rig Grill experience. I wouldn't go out of my way to dine there again. read more

This is the Bacon Cheese Burger, an order of onion rings, and a sweet tea. I was told that all of the burgers came with only one patty. However, when it came, I understood why!! It is HUGE!! This was a VERY good burger. The onion rings were fantastic as well...only four in an order, I guess; or at least that's all came on my plate, but they were very good. And the sweet tea? It was FAB!! We ate outside on the deck where it is open seating (very nice & comfortable), waited for about 20 minutes to place our order...& then another 35 minutes to get our food. However, to be more than fair, they were pretty busy. The food was worth it, the price was good, and my date (wife of 28 years) occupied my time perfectly. We asked for silverware 2 times and she went somewhere to get something else that was okay a little annoying but not mad, so then I just went to the front to ask the hostess for silverware that they were rolling I only needed 2 and she said it isn't ready I said we already have our food can we please just get 2 once again they aren't ready I was told as she is telling me this another girl was taking some rolled silverware out of the box. I walked away and watched them take silverware to 2 tables that did not even have food. We tried to eat here. We walked in and there was no one at the hostess station, and we were the third family in line. I assumed they were seating someone and would be right back. Nope. After standing there for at least 5, maybe 10 minutes, and having at least one employee walk by without even looking up, my wife tried to get the attention of the bartender, with no luck. Finally, after literally waving our arms like we were in distress, a waitress came over and asked what we needed. We told her there were 3 families waiting and no one to acknowledge us. She replied that she was busy, and would be back in a little bit, or we could try to find a place in the bar. By the way, there were numerous open tables, and she obviously busy talking with another employee. I've given the 'Rig' many more chances since my first review in 2011 and I'm happy to say that they've turned over a new leaf (I'm thinking that it was just opening week jitters). Wait time for a table in the dining room is much faster and the expansive menu is now up to par: hot, filling, great tasting. There aren't many bars in the Morton Street/75 area of Denison, so when we choose to go out (preferably just a few blocks from home), we come here. The atmosphere is fun with live music on the weekends, but the bar area is always packed and it's incredibly smokey, so unless you like leaving a place smelling like a cigarette, beware. The outside patio and huge flat-screen TV are nice on breezy days! read more

Ambience was apropos and enjoyable, even met some locals and struck up a great conversation at the bar. I make the occasional trip to Denison with my bf who needs to work in the area from time to time. We always used to stop and eat in Sherman until he went to the North Rig Grill with other work guys. They all had steaks, good service and he suggested we go try it out. I like to check places out online before hand and unfortunately I wasn't finding very good reviews. But I know how that can go sometimes so I was determined to go in with an optimistic mind. Bottom line...great meal. Bf ordered the filet with a loaded baked potato. I hesitated between the filet (my preferred cut of meat) and the flat iron. I decided to go with the flat iron and I was not disappointed. Thicker than any other flat iron I've ever had, it was cooked perfectly to my specifications (med rare) and I ate the entire thing. 10oz of wonderfully juicy and tender meat. I don't think it was a true flat iron cut, rather, a choice center cut sirloin. But either way....it was delicious, affordable ($13) and I was pleased. I ordered fried okra and black eyed peas as my sides which were also great. We saw onion rings go to another table and decided to share a side of those too. They were incredible. Next time I'll order the black eyed peas again and onion rings. Bf was also happy with his filet and loaded baked potato. I felt the establishment deserved a good and recent review. *Added note - went back a second time and again, had the flat iron cut with okra and black eyed peas. Delicious again. There are 2 separate sections...a restaurant section and a Sports Bar/ Restaurant section.. Service is fast and friendly... I ate in the Sports Bar Section... Smoking is allowed, but was not noticeable as such... I had the Chicken Fried Chicken...with sides of Macaroni & Cheese and Fried Okra.... All portions were large... One thing..if it is windy and from the South...do not sit near the door that leads to the patio..because with people constantly going in and out..my napkins kept blowing away from the table and off my lap , as they were paper...so a suggestion would be to have cloth napkins.. read more

The service is a toss up, I've had a few instances where you feel like you are ignored and have had to ask for refills when it wasn't the busiest. When the weather permits, sit out on the patio! Perfect place to enjoy your drinks and eats, and the patio is pet friendly, something hard to come by in the Lake Texoma area! I rated it 3 out of 5 mainly due to the actual service being a gamble, my review is not weighted on busy times, but the less busy times when I have received food with wilted veggies from sitting under the heat lamp too long. read more

I love eating at the Rig. Been coming since I moved into the Texoma are 7 years ago. I have not ever been disappointed once with the food. The steaks and sides are wonderful. Loved this place. First of all there are two sides - I went two days in a row and both times I sat on the "bar" side. There is a good size bar area over here and there are quite a few tables to sit at as well. One very large round table - we had 10 people at the table and we were comfortable. They also have the usual 2 and 4 top tables and those were put together one night for a very large group. Lots of TVs too. If you walk out the door to the parking lot on the bar side - there is a very large patio with a bar, tables and a big screen TV. The other side of the place is a full sized dining area. We had an assortment of typical bar food; wings, fries, burgers, fried jalapenos, and some burgers. Everything was very good, much better than average bar food. A couple of the people at my table were regulars and they said the place has some of the best burritos you will find anywhere. I enjoyed the place. A lot of regulars and the staff was very friendly and attentive. The owner came by the table to check on everything - always a nice touch. Will def make this a place to stop when in town. read more

Good roadside stop on US 75, complete with a faux oil derrick in the front. It appears to be a typical diner on the outside, but the interior is modern with a stained concrete floor and open layout, with view of the kitchen through an arched window. The African game trophies on the wall seem a bit out of sync with the North Rig theme, but they are interesting to look at while you wait. We ordered the Sunday special, all you can eat catfish, which was light, crispy and perfectly done. I got mine with a bit of blackened seasoning, which was great. The black-eyed peas were nicely seasoned as well, and the mac and cheese (rotini pasta!) was a satisfying side. There is a bar so you can order a pint to go with your meal. I started with iced tea, which was a bit on the weak side, but drinkable. I ordered the rib eye steak with cajun spice, and fries. The steak was done correctly and was tasty. The cajun spice was a touch salty, but still was okay. The fries were good, no complaints there. Overall, it was a good meal, service a little slow.
