These guys are my heroes. I'm not even kidding, they totally saved me and then went above and…read morebeyond after that. Long story short, someone keyed my car and damaged my door lock a couple of years ago. I made the claim right away but then procrastinated on following through with the repairs (for which there is a 2-year time limit if you want it covered by your insurance). I figured I'd have all the time in the world to get it done but then suffered a health condition that took me out for the months leading up to my 2-year deadline. So there's me, trying to find an auto body shop that would take my car in for repair on less than a week's notice. I initially didn't realize how ridiculous of a request that was until I spoke to my insurance provider and then called a large number of other auto body shops. Turns out they all have a 6-week waiting list right now. I literally got laughed at when I called some auto body shops to ask if they could take me right away. But Boyd Autobody Richmond was sympathetic to my situation and agreed to take my car right away, despite how busy they are. I was already on cloud 9 and so incredibly grateful when I went in to pick up my car. But little did I know, they still had one surprise left for me. After paying my deductible and getting my keys, I walked out to my car to examine their work. It was perfect. I then jumped in my car, prepared to drive off, when I looked around and saw that my car was immaculately clean. I was shocked. To put this into perspective, my car has not been that clean in years. I have two huskies, both of which shed like you wouldn't believe and love to run through mud, as well as the sand at the beach after getting wet. And then they get in my car. I literally gave up on trying to keep my car clean years ago. And I'm pretty sure there was close to an inch of husky hair than had accumulated on the floor of my back seats, which I tended to ignore because I have a little 2-door BMW so it was hard to get to that area and I never really had to see it anyway. So let's just say, I was convinced my car would never be clean again unless I paid at least $500 for a professional to detail it. I in no way expected Boyd Autobody to clean the inside of my car like that...and BMW certainly doesn't do it whenever I've taken my car in for servicing (not that I can blame them, lol). But Boyd Autobody Richmond went above and beyond on that front. I don't even want to know how many hours it took the poor guy assigned that task to complete it. I was so impressed and grateful that I ran back inside and asked if I could give the guy who cleaned my car a tip. But they, with a smile, said no, it's all good, and they would pass along my thanks. I am never taking my car to another auto body shop again.

Buddy had my car for a couple months trying to find parts. In that time his technician got into an accident with my car. Fine, they'll fix it and get to working on the real problem. Over the holidays, the owner of the shop decides to leave my vehicle on the street outside of his lot. Tuesday morning I get a call from VPD. "Sir, someone has broken into your car and your car is filling with rain. I call Arbutus service centre, leave a msg, don't hear back. I call back at noon the next day, speak to the owner. "Oh it's not my responsibility where your car is left, I won't be taking any responsibility for the damage caused." You couldn't even call me to give me the option to move my car out of your location if you didn't have time to work on it or it was taking space or was going to sit there over the holidays. That's what you do Steve, you call the client and say "hey, parts haven't come in, I don't have room to store your car, can you come pick it up? I'll call ya when the part is in and you can bring it back. You DON'T leave the vehicle on the street, quite simple. My car being broken into is not what bothered me, nor the fact that I trusted my vehicle with this mechanic or that I spent 5k and the mechanical issue still persisted. It was the shitty attitude and absolute lack of any ownership that made me loose 1000% respect for this person and his business. If that's the new norm, bring your car to a mechanic but you can't trust they'll keep your car safe, I call bullshit. Steve Hennessy, your behaviour, business practise and shit attitude after the fact.....poor poor poor absolutely sh** customer service. Your defiance, arrogance at how you practise business left me with the worst taste in my mouth. I am on my way out of this city and all you did was remind me why I cannot stand where humanity has reached. I looked at you, the experience and just thought "man, people are so awful" Had to scarp my car I was in love with. Now I don't have anything to move with. You ruined my last moth in Van. I hope you can live with this truth. It was in fact 100% your responsibility to keep my vehicle safe when you take that vehicle in. I trusted you to keep it safe. Had it been your own car, your mechanic left it on the street and someone broke into it, you'd be singing a different tune. But you weren't able to empathize were you? No, you just thought of yourself and how to cover your own ass. Since it's 2023, humanity is at its worst, you decided to screw me. Live with that. I strongly believe in karma and I believe yours will, has, is coming. Zero respect for you, absolute zero. You shouldn't advertise on your website things you simply do not practise. Lol your customers come first? Yeah right!

Reg, the manager, was just outstanding and would happily explain everything to myself and my son as to what they were doing, what problem there might be, show and demonstrate the problem, and then give an honest appraisal of what the costs would be for parts and repairs. I now have peace of mind that if anything goes wrong Reg and his team will fix it under warranty. Taking your vehicle to Holm's is an easy decision to make especially for those who, like myself, depend on honest people to do an honest job for an honest dollar. This shop is actually not on Palm, but at the back of a building that faces palm. The entrance faces the side alley. The shop looks fairly cluttered both in the shop area and office, but to me that really just means they work on that many cars. There was a lineup the entire time I was there. They have 2 hoists, though 1 was out of commission the day I was there. The office has a waiting area, but there is really not much there other than a vending machine. Thank goodness for smartphones. Victoria (the owner) was very familiar with the problem with my car, and mentioned all the various problems known for that model. These are problems that are plastered all over the various car forums out there but aren't officially recognized by the manufacturer. The fact that I didn't have to argue with her (unlike the dealership) made me feel much more comfortable trusting my ride with her. My timing chain was properly inspected, and she even let me into the shop area to take some photos of the various engine parts for my own records. Special mention here, as I truly appreciate a shop that doesn't treat their customers like idiots. I also requested that my alternator pulley be replaced. This job isn't difficult on paper, but requires a custom tool, and an insane amount of torque. The pulley on my car was so seized that they broke their tool, so I basically had to get this done elsewhere. They also changed out my serpentine belt (which had to come off for this job anyways) and charged me 0.7h. Not the best because the belt had to come off again for that pulley at a later date, but reasonable. Overall I was happy as my objective for the appointment was achieved, but there were 2 things where they can improve on. 1) The appointment literally took the entire day (8h) instead of the 1-2h I was expecting, because of that broken hoist. Thank goodness I had the day off and decided to stick around the area. If I had known this, I would've simply rebooked for a different day to make it easier for everyone. 2) When the tech replaced the valve cover, she routed the vacuum hoses incorrectly. I was wondering why my engine cover would no longer sit flush and was now getting squished by the hood. Fortunately I had a photo from before, so I was able to fix this when I got home. However, I feel the shop has a responsibility to put things back together properly. With that said, I do feel that the shop does try to do good honest work. I will be back for more mechanical servicing in the future.
