If I could rate less then one star, I would. Was referred to this place from my employers after struggling to find a mechanic who would be able to fix my car. Buddy had my car for a couple months trying to find parts. In that time his technician got into an accident with my car. Fine, they'll fix it and get to working on the real problem. Over the holidays, the owner of the shop decides to leave my vehicle on the street outside of his lot. Tuesday morning I get a call from VPD. "Sir, someone has broken into your car and your car is filling with rain. I call Arbutus service centre, leave a msg, don't hear back. I call back at noon the next day, speak to the owner. "Oh it's not my responsibility where your car is left, I won't be taking any responsibility for the damage caused." You couldn't even call me to give me the option to move my car out of your location if you didn't have time to work on it or it was taking space or was going to sit there over the holidays. That's what you do Steve, you call the client and say "hey, parts haven't come in, I don't have room to store your car, can you come pick it up? I'll call ya when the part is in and you can bring it back. You DON'T leave the vehicle on the street, quite simple. My car being broken into is not what bothered me, nor the fact that I trusted my vehicle with this mechanic or that I spent 5k and the mechanical issue still persisted. It was the shitty attitude and absolute lack of any ownership that made me loose 1000% respect for this person and his business. If that's the new norm, bring your car to a mechanic but you can't trust they'll keep your car safe, I call bullshit. Steve Hennessy, your behaviour, business practise and shit attitude after the fact.....poor poor poor absolutely sh** customer service. Your defiance, arrogance at how you practise business left me with the worst taste in my mouth. I am on my way out of this city and all you did was remind me why I cannot stand where humanity has reached. I looked at you, the experience and just thought "man, people are so awful" Had to scarp my car I was in love with. Now I don't have anything to move with. You ruined my last moth in Van. I hope you can live with this truth. It was in fact 100% your responsibility to keep my vehicle safe when you take that vehicle in. I trusted you to keep it safe. Had it been your own car, your mechanic left it on the street and someone broke into it, you'd be singing a different tune. But you weren't able to empathize were you? No, you just thought of yourself and how to cover your own ass. Since it's 2023, humanity is at its worst, you decided to screw me. Live with that. I strongly believe in karma and I believe yours will, has, is coming. Zero respect for you, absolute zero. You shouldn't advertise on your website things you simply do not practise. You just gotta love BCAA. It's worth every penny. My car had broken down in the middle of traffic on Oak St and sweating like mad in the heat, the BCAA guy towed me to Arbutus Service Centre. Unlike some shops with arrogant mechanics who want to make you feel dumb when you're trying to explain what's wrong with your car, these guys are friendly and professional. Even though the shop was packed full of other cars, they got it done the same day (new alternator). Three months later I had an issue with the alternator they installed so got towed once again to them. I was expecting some kind of charge, but they replaced it at zero charge including the labour. My dad, brother, and I all bring our cars here to get them fixed. The mechanics here, like mentioned in the other reviews, are friendly and incredibly helpful. I bring my car in the morning, and they have always been done before closing. I needed a new horn, and wanted to put a new one in myself, instead of paying for it to be done, and the head mechanic came out, showed me where the two horns were, and explained how I could replace them. It's not even that this shop has good service, it's that the people really genuinely want to help you out. (The ONLY reason I give them four stars is because I have only ever taken my car here, so I don't have anything to compare it to.) read more

These guys are amazing! I've been using them for several years now, but for quite a while already, they know my name and my car on sight, in spite of the fact that they're always very busy. And speaking of always busy, they always seem to be able to fit you in and have your car returned to you the same day. They only charge what they quote (no hidden or surprise charges) and take as much time as you need to explain what the problem is or was. I have never felt any pressure from "upselling". If other work is needed they'll tell you what is needed, why, and how urgently. As long as they're within driving distance, I won't be going anywhere else. read more

I went to get my car fixed because it was making a weird noise and jerking forward once in awhile. They told me it would cost $1200 to fix everyhing and my breaks needed replacing. I thought, dang that's a lot of money but if you fix everything then ok! In the end, I had to go back 4 times!!! My car started making a squeeling noise so i brought it back, It is still jerking forward today. Do not go here if you can help it. Went to get my truck fixed and they claimed to have fixed it and after I went and picked it up it still wasn't fixed. They made up a completely different problem that they determined after 5 seconds of looking under the hood while I sat in the drivers seat. The mechanic then came all the way up to my window sticking his head in to talk to me.... so inappropriate, especially during COVID. Will not be bringing my truck back here ever again. read more

I took my 10 + year old Honda in for a starter motor replacement a couple of weeks ago and got the work done at a reasonable price (I checked around by phone). My radio was not working and I had to find a serial # then contact Honda to get a code to enter to get it started again. Big hassle. I never bothered. When I picked up my car these guys had done this for me without me even mentioning it. Yesterday, I was driving through Vancouver on my way to Squamish when the coolant reservoir on my 1994 BMW M3 ruptured. Through a BCAA recommendation, I wound up at Arbutus. Although I had no appointment, Randy, Fellette and the staff cleared a space in their very full day to tend to my problem. Randy sourced a replacement reservoir (not an easy task) and by early this morning, I was on my way. And based on the circumstances, their cost was extremely reasonable. It was quickly evident the folks at Arbutus know what they are doing and treat their customers with a level of service we all hope for but so rarely get. Thanks guys. This is an amazing shop, real genuine mechanics you can trust! Would highly recommend to everyone. I took my 2006 Chevrolet Optra here on multiple occasions for all sorts of things: flat tire, spark plugs, oil leak, oil change, etc. They always did their best to get me in and out of the shop as fast as possible, even cramming me in between appointments when the situation was dire or emergent. They always explained things in a clear and concise way that made it easy for me to understand, despite my very little experience with cars. Many mechanics would take advantage of my lack of knowledge, but these guys always found the cheapest most effective solutions for my needs. I have been dealing with Arbutus Service Centre for the 30 years I have lived in Vancouver. Randy and Steve are the most straightforward, trustworthy and reasonable mechanics I know. I have recommended them to many people. I don't know what to make of the people giving one-star reviews. However, my review will be discounted by Yelp's software system because I submit few reviews. Caution poor quality parts are used here! Started coming here because of the customer reviews. Had all 4 rotors, calipers,pads replaced here. Calipers failed once during the warranty period. 2nd time past the 1 year warranty I had to pay again and even they failed after. 3rd time onto another set of rotors again within a 3 year period and out of pocket a few grand! This time I'm going somewhere else. Beware don't be fooled. Complete brake job should last a few years , not a year!!!!! Better off elsewhere unless you enjoy coming back and waisting your time and money. read more

$19.95 to check all fluid levels? Riiight... Never again will be coming here, a simple oil change (plus an air filter change which was sprung on me at the last second) ran at $84.17. Be careful here. We had work done on our overheating flex. They replaced our transmission cooler and did not realize our cooling fan was not working, so we continued to overheat! They put in a new cooling fan and it was noisy and never went off, so we took it to ford and they showed me the poor install that was done. read more

I had car problems so i had my car towed to Arbutus Services at 8am. Randy greeted me at the front desk and I advised him that BCAA thought it was the alternator. He fitted me in and told me that my car would be ready before end of day. After his service guy inspected the car, he told me that it would be ready by 2pm. I asked if it could be ready by 1pm given I had a meeting to attend to. At 11:45am, I got the call that the car was fixed. I just wanted to say he went above and beyond in my mind, but maybe that was the typical service level. I was grateful he fitted me in let alone exceeding my expectation. I can't say his garage will do the same every day but his service is always first class. read more

I have been going to these guys for over 15 years. They are friendly competent and, above all else, honest. When most of us take our cars to a mechanic, we have no way of knowing whether the work suggested is really needed. That is why an honest mechanic is so valuable. My wife's dealership told her she needed new control arm bushings and a fuel injector service (car is a 2008 Mazda 3). The total cost would have been close to $1,000. I took the vehicle in to Arbutus and found that all it needed was a new cabin air filter. I had a similar experience with my Honda years before when the dealer told me I needed an expensive repair. Arbutus looked at it and said I didn't. I kept that car for 5 years after and the repair never needed doing. You owe it to yourself to see these guys. First rate service, good prices and HONESTY. read more

The oil of my BMW was leaking, $3500 and 7 visits later, the oil was still liking. I had to take the car to the BMW because there was a recall and replacement for a factory malfunction of one airbag , they saw the oil leaking problem and I was told that it was because the oil filter housing and the Vanos oil line was leaking. I had no idea what they where talking about, but at least they where able to detect why the oil was liking, something these guys never did, but where more than happy to take my money! read more
