There were a couple mechanical issues and a few very mysterious electrical issues with the car that I've had three different mechanics look at and try to fix and give up on. He picked up the car twice and returned the next or end of the same day. My car is purring away and safe to drive in the city again. Thanks!

The dealership diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the issue was caused by over filling engine oil. They also found engine oil on the engine air filter housing, MAF sensor, throttle body, cylinder heads and exhaust. The dealership did not find any pre-existing damage to the vehicle, I paid for the dealership diagnostic examination, repair service and clean up out of my pocket. Performance One denied any wrongdoing, and refused to reimburse me for the monies paid to correct their damage. I had to file a complaint to BC Small Claims Court, wherein the court ruled against Performance One, awarding me with the repair invoice amount, search fees and court fees. The judge also noted that AWG Performance One has wasted my time, their time, and the court time. Making a mistake is one thing, but when a mistake is made by a business, one would expect they would own up to it and not need customers to take them to Court. Not withstanding the "comments" from various male friends, I knew the clutch on my 10 year old Nissan Sentra needed to be done. I've had my fair share of distrust over the years of mechanics and repair shops. Most of them seemed like rip off artists to me...speaking down to me as if they were trying to impart knowledge that was way over my head. It always felt like they really just wanted my money. Enter Performance One: I've been coming to Performance One for the last year and a bit for oil changes and such minor things. In that time, I've had some good conversations with the manager, service advisor and both mechanics. Even for a simple oil change, if I had questions, they gave me answers. That makes me feel good. So earlier this week when I went in for my regular oil change and the mechanic said "Your clutch has to be done right away. I'm not kidding. Don't put this off any longer or the transmission could be damaged and then you're really in trouble." It was a no-brainer to get them to do it. I'm not going to kid you, a clutch job is expensive. And I admit, out of curiosity, I called around anyway to get some other quotes...and friends shared their stories of how much they paid over the years for the same kind of work. I found the quote from Performance One to be very reasonable (the quote from my Nissan dealership was outrageous!) The service manager gave me some options to choose from and explained the pro and cons of those options. The mechanic popped his head in and gave his two cents as well. Again, giving me the information helped me feel that I am part of the process and I know what's going on. I took my car in first thing Friday morning and it was done late that afternoon...spending the day in their upstairs lounge as the work went on. AND HOLY CRAP. The clutch they put in is FRICKEN AWESOME. I am so happy! I'm not fighting to get it into 2nd or reverse anymore. I was actually good with paying this bill because I think driving will be a pleasure again. Thanks guys, you've got my business and I'll wholeheartedly recommend you guys any time.

These guys are my heroes. I'm not even kidding, they totally saved me and then went above and…read morebeyond after that. Long story short, someone keyed my car and damaged my door lock a couple of years ago. I made the claim right away but then procrastinated on following through with the repairs (for which there is a 2-year time limit if you want it covered by your insurance). I figured I'd have all the time in the world to get it done but then suffered a health condition that took me out for the months leading up to my 2-year deadline. So there's me, trying to find an auto body shop that would take my car in for repair on less than a week's notice. I initially didn't realize how ridiculous of a request that was until I spoke to my insurance provider and then called a large number of other auto body shops. Turns out they all have a 6-week waiting list right now. I literally got laughed at when I called some auto body shops to ask if they could take me right away. But Boyd Autobody Richmond was sympathetic to my situation and agreed to take my car right away, despite how busy they are. I was already on cloud 9 and so incredibly grateful when I went in to pick up my car. But little did I know, they still had one surprise left for me. After paying my deductible and getting my keys, I walked out to my car to examine their work. It was perfect. I then jumped in my car, prepared to drive off, when I looked around and saw that my car was immaculately clean. I was shocked. To put this into perspective, my car has not been that clean in years. I have two huskies, both of which shed like you wouldn't believe and love to run through mud, as well as the sand at the beach after getting wet. And then they get in my car. I literally gave up on trying to keep my car clean years ago. And I'm pretty sure there was close to an inch of husky hair than had accumulated on the floor of my back seats, which I tended to ignore because I have a little 2-door BMW so it was hard to get to that area and I never really had to see it anyway. So let's just say, I was convinced my car would never be clean again unless I paid at least $500 for a professional to detail it. I in no way expected Boyd Autobody to clean the inside of my car like that...and BMW certainly doesn't do it whenever I've taken my car in for servicing (not that I can blame them, lol). But Boyd Autobody Richmond went above and beyond on that front. I don't even want to know how many hours it took the poor guy assigned that task to complete it. I was so impressed and grateful that I ran back inside and asked if I could give the guy who cleaned my car a tip. But they, with a smile, said no, it's all good, and they would pass along my thanks. I am never taking my car to another auto body shop again.

After almost 12 months (that's right 1 year) my friends car has finally been returned. Please keep in mind, my friend had to contact a lawyer in order to assist with the return of his vehicle. The condition in which his vehicle was returned to him just shows the lack of care for the consumer and the outright disrespect to provide the service that all these "5 Star" reviews showcase as the quality this so called "Automotive shop" provides. Don't take my word for it, I have receipts - please see all 9 photos below; there is mold build up, a broken window and the brand new battery appears to have been replaced, that's just to name a few.

This shop is actually not on Palm, but at the back of a building that faces palm. The entrance faces the side alley. The shop looks fairly cluttered both in the shop area and office, but to me that really just means they work on that many cars. There was a lineup the entire time I was there. They have 2 hoists, though 1 was out of commission the day I was there. The office has a waiting area, but there is really not much there other than a vending machine. Thank goodness for smartphones. Victoria (the owner) was very familiar with the problem with my car, and mentioned all the various problems known for that model. These are problems that are plastered all over the various car forums out there but aren't officially recognized by the manufacturer. The fact that I didn't have to argue with her (unlike the dealership) made me feel much more comfortable trusting my ride with her. My timing chain was properly inspected, and she even let me into the shop area to take some photos of the various engine parts for my own records. Special mention here, as I truly appreciate a shop that doesn't treat their customers like idiots. I also requested that my alternator pulley be replaced. This job isn't difficult on paper, but requires a custom tool, and an insane amount of torque. The pulley on my car was so seized that they broke their tool, so I basically had to get this done elsewhere. They also changed out my serpentine belt (which had to come off for this job anyways) and charged me 0.7h. Not the best because the belt had to come off again for that pulley at a later date, but reasonable. Overall I was happy as my objective for the appointment was achieved, but there were 2 things where they can improve on. 1) The appointment literally took the entire day (8h) instead of the 1-2h I was expecting, because of that broken hoist. Thank goodness I had the day off and decided to stick around the area. If I had known this, I would've simply rebooked for a different day to make it easier for everyone. 2) When the tech replaced the valve cover, she routed the vacuum hoses incorrectly. I was wondering why my engine cover would no longer sit flush and was now getting squished by the hood. Fortunately I had a photo from before, so I was able to fix this when I got home. However, I feel the shop has a responsibility to put things back together properly. With that said, I do feel that the shop does try to do good honest work. I will be back for more mechanical servicing in the future.
