Chilaquiles
Wayne R.

Stopped by for breakfast after returning to the OC from LA. I used to live down the street and ate here regularly before 2010, so this was a bit of a nostalgia trip. Ordered the chilaquiles with black beans and eggs. The portion was generous, the eggs were cooked perfectly, and the coffee was exactly what diner coffee should be--served in those classic small mugs that somehow make every refill taste better. As always, the service was friendly and the food arrived quickly. It was a relaxing Saturday morning breakfast and a nice trip down memory lane. I'll be back.

Staff are always amazing here, in particular the general manager Sunday! helpful, kind, and really on top of it

What a blast from the past. This Norms was my very first job. I forgot who the manager was before Brian, maybe Steve (gosh I'm getting old). Surprised to see many familiar faces and one of the chefs now was a busser/dish washer when I was working there. Happy to see improvement and higher positions filled from within. Norms has changed alot; for the better. Little tablet kiosks at the tables, revamped menus...they even sell merchandise. Took my friend out to go eat and decided on the Verde Burrito and Mediterranean pasta. Was alot better than expected I'll tell you that. I might have to come more often to explore the new food items. Bert is a such a pleasure to be around. She trained me back in the day along with Rafael when I was doing overnights. Truly, a nostalgic feeling seeing her again. Casual dining at an affordable price.

My partner loves mother effingggg norms. I've never been much of a Dennys, ihop or Norms type of guy but if I had to choose between the 3 I'd definitely go with Norms. It just tastes better and is less like, idk shitty? Plus it's a local legendary establishment, I think it's originally from Hollywood / Los Angeles. The best thing here are the pancakes, after revisiting this restaurant 3 Times recently I prefer the breakfast fare over the other items. One question though, why are the claw machines with the stuffed goodies always broken or out of service? What the heck manggggg. Salud! Nice friendly staff here at the Stabba Ana California location btw!

I open the shop on Halloween night. It was extremely busy and I had to admit they maintained their concentration. They didn't let the stress get to them and they managed to carry themselves through, but I had to try something new on the menu the crisp apple pie and of course you added a scoop of vanilla ice cream and get it warmed up. I swear to God I should've ordered two slices. This is so good. I sat at the counter and enjoyed my cup of coffee. They're going to be a lot of specials to try in November but this location is different than the one I usually go to, but the service is equal to the same and everybody is really friendly... But I'm going to try that ham traditional dinner for 1999 that's coming up next on my dream list.

The 2nd NORMS that I have been to, and it is just as solid as the 1st. NORMS is the best option when everything else is closed, and a good option nonetheless. Staple American diner serving an extensive menu at great value and big portions. Staff are friendly and the interior is kept pretty clean.

Our server Dulce and the Manager Sunday were very helpful and attentive. We came in with a party of over 20 even though we called earlier and ended up showing up with more people. They were able to seat us all near each other and were able to attend to us in a timely manner. Not only did they accommodate with our large size they were able to split our checks. Even when the food was taking a little bit to come out because we ended up coming in with a group of 30, in an already busy restaurant, they came out with a great attitude and were very accommodating. As a server I truly appreciate the way both Dulce and Sunday handle our situation. They were very nice and very helpful. Sorry for our group but you guys handled it amazing and I was in awe of your service.

Dear Yelp Community,…read more Finally, after passing this long-standing local establishment many times, I stopped to try the breakfast (as recommended by a local), and well worth it! I tried a classic breakfast with eggs, toast, and hash browns. Sandra, the server, has been working here more than 40 years! All good, and friendly staff. The interior décor is great! Although renovated, they tried to replace the original feel with wood panels, bright colors, and old-school countertop. Please keep this legacy in business. Thank you for feeding me this Labor Day. Best wishes. Sincerely, Anna

But come to find out after an hour later, the girl who seats you forgot about us. After being seated, it took another hour for the food to come out. Keep in mind, we ordered everything right when we sat down because we were watching the tables as we were waiting for ours. One thing we observed was how the front door worker was seating people. Party of 4 was seated with three tables. There was room to move the tables apart and seat others who had been waiting but that didn't happen. We came here for Mother's Day and it was packed but service was quick. Not sure what went wrong on staff for Father's Day but it was not pleasant.

It's very small, so there was about a 5 minute wait before a table opened up. There were only 2 people taking orders and serving food, but the place is so small that was plenty. If they had any more staff it would have been too crowded. They only serve breakfast, but have a lot of different options from pancakes & waffles, to omelets & eggs benedict, along with some Hawaiian and Mexican dishes. I had their Classic Breakfast, which included 2 eggs, sausage or bacon, with an upgrade to hashbrowns from home fries and toast. We got there around 12:30pm and the food came out very fast. And it was SO GOOD! Like, the best breakfast I've ever had and I'm not really a big breakfast person. SO, SO GOOD! I would definitely come back again if it was closer to my area. Unfortunately, it is too far for me to come on a regular basis. But definitely recommend!

I walked and the host-Juan, the name was on the receipt. I asked Juan what would he recommend, he told that the machaca was awesome. So I do, and waited outside for the order. Juan came out to hand me the food, what a gentleman. I drove off and found a spot to park and eat the food. Right off the bat, the food was out in a plastic container with the 4 holes on the bottom not on top. These holes were made to let steam escape, and hot food on plastic-another review for another day. Food came with 2 small salsa containers(bland), and 3 flower tortillas-loved them. Machaca was so little, it could fit on top of one of those tortillas. I mean, it was a potion, not a meal. The cost was almost $23 tip included. Now, from experience, restaurants bank on 30% profit-bless their heart, well deserved. Doing the math, $23x30%=$6.90 ~$7 rounding. $16 was the cost of Machaca. 2 eggs? = 25 cents Shredded beef = 50 cents Oil = 5 cents Tortillas = 5 cents Tortilla foil = 3 cents Salsa = 5 cents Upside container = 5 cents Labor = 50 cents Utilities = 10 cents Rent = 95 cents Total $2.53 Even if inflation was 300 %, which is not even close, more like 14%, Why the extra $10, after the profit of $7?. Economy is not well, and we all are feeling the pain, like real pain. When all retailers continue to charge unrealistic prices, it becomes inhumane. I am lucky that I can afford to pay during these horrible times, but something must give. Btw, I have eaten way better machaca somewhere else, and I didn't pay $23. Have mercy, pass it on.

Ok, here we go. Let me start with a confession: I hate…read morediners. I hate them with the fiery rage of ten thousand suns. In my experience, diner food is usually tired, dry, uninspired, and about as exciting as eating an anvil. So believe me when I tell you that is not this place. Surrounded by newer, shinier restaurants near CHOC, Victory Diner has some miles on it. Frankly, it's easy to overlook, and I nearly did. What a mistake that would've been. The burgers are good, the fries are good, and the food is gloriously unapologetic comfort food. Imagine you're a parent at CHOC. It's 2 a.m., you're exhausted, worried sick about your child, and you just need to escape the hospital long enough to get your head screwed on straight. You don't need gourmet cuisine. You need something warm, satisfying, and familiar. Victory Diner delivers a hug from Mom on a plate. It's not fancy, and it's not trying to be. It's simply comfort when life is kicking your ass. And sometimes, that's worth more than the fanciest meal in town. Don't let the appearance fool you. You'd be missing something special by passing this place up.

June's (I believe they are changing the name back to Pop's soon?) is located off Main Street in downtown Santa Ana. There's plenty of paid street parking around, and they have indoor and outdoor seating. I would recommend sitting outdoor or in the left hand main room, because the right side where we sat felt like the overflow area that doesn't get attended too as frequently as the other areas. Service was nice in that everyone was pleasant and apologetic for the delays in service, however it took a very long time to get anything from a menu to a water refill. They also didn't pace the serving of food well, as my wife would get her food, and then I'd have to wait another 10 minutes for my meal to arrive. On the food front, the portions are huge. I got an omelette that tasted good, but was unfortunately made incorrectly. Their fried zucchini is fresh and also massive, you definitely get your moneys worth. I also tried the French toast which was just ok, it wasn't very flavorful but came in a large portion. The place is very no-frills, but still pretty good for what it is. I think this place is going through growing pains with the new ownership, but I would certainly give it another shot. If you're in the area and looking for a no-frills diner with big portions, then look no further than here.
