Hey, free food does that for me. Having the Norms app on my phone, I ordered the Galaxy hotcakes w/ butter, syrup & utensils for pickup. Arriving at the restaurant, the cashier was helping someone for a few minutes, when another employee offered their assistance, and quickly brought me my bag o' hotcakes. Quickly out the door, I made my way home. The hotcakes, themselves, were overcooked, but still edible. I didn't eat them, so the account comes secondhand. The process was simple, and handled smoothly. Unlike my previous experience at this location. Free hotcakes is a great promo, but I doubt I'd take advantage of it, again. read more

I can't remember the last time I came to Norms, but it definitely has been awhile. The menu looks different from before and the prices are definitely not the same but that's understandable with inflation. Our server Brenda was excellent but unfortunately she doesn't cook our food. I ordered my usual country fried steak breakfast and got it like I always do, CFS extra crispy with gravy on the side, hash browns extra crispy and eggs over easy. When it came out, none of the special requests I made were met. Not crispy at all in fact the breading was completely different from what I remember. The gravy was on the side so they did get that right. The hash browns were also not extra crispy and my eggs over easy but somewhere in the process, the yolks were broken. I wonder why the changes in the menu snd the quality as well. Even my daughter was disappointed because she was craving their chicken strips appetizer and was told, no longer on the menu. So she had to order the chicken strips as a meal. It too, when it came out was very different from what she is used to. I don't know how it can be so different. Did they change chefs, or did they change their supplier. Whatever it is, it was not for the better. Could it be they never made it from scratch? Probably the only thing I liked that I thought they did right were the Pancakes and the extra side of the kings Hawaiian French toast. Both cooked perfectly. I'll give some serious thinking if I want to give them a try again or maybe try a different location. As a daughter of immigrants, this experience is especially upsetting to me. My elderly parents went to Norms for lunch, and my dad found a piece of glass in his chicken soup. That alone is a serious food safety concern, but what happened afterward was even more disappointing. According to my parents, the waiter persisted--in Spanish--that they should keep quiet, not say anything, and not make a big deal about it. My parents are kind, trusting people, and unfortunately, they listened. It's heartbreaking and exhausting to think that someone might take advantage of their willingness to be respectful and avoid confrontation. What I find particularly frustrating is the lack of accountability from the staff. Finding glass in someone's food should have been treated as a serious safety issue. At the very least, I would have expected the soup to be removed from the bill and for management to acknowledge what happened and make sure my parents felt heard and cared for. Instead, the only thing they removed from the check was the orange juice. The orange juice. Not the soup containing glass. Customer safety should never be something a restaurant minimizes, and elderly customers should never be made to feel like they're causing a problem by speaking up about something this serious. I'm grateful my dad wasn't hurt, but this situation left me incredibly disappointed. As their daughter, I wish I had been there not to cause a scene, but to make sure my parents were treated with the respect, accountability, and basic customer care they deserved. read more

Met up with a buddy at our neighborhood Norms off Lakewood & Rose. Norms, founded in 1949, is 76 years old? and open 24/7. I like the calm, retro diner vibe, serving classic American comfort food--lots of families and elderly folks. I ordered the *Cali-Cado Benny*, an Eggs Benedict w/ toasted English muffins, poached eggs, hollandaise, bacon, avocado, grilled tomatoes, and green onions. It was lightly sweetened, rich, velvety, and smooth. It was good, but my hash browns were bland; I ate them anyway since my friend was treating me LOL. Service was wonderful, gratitude to Reuben. Quality has really gone down quite a bit. Food is good when it's what it's supposed to be. 1) This is not a 6oz sirloin steak. This is a piece of flank/asada ....really, REALLY disappointing especially given how most if not all of the menu prices have gone up. (see pictures) 2) My mom got a salad, the guy didn't ask her what dressing she wanted so I figured it would be mixed in the salad. After 15min of getting our order, I noticed her salad looked REALLY dry. I asked if there was dressing on it and she said "No.." and so I called the guy and he was all "it's mixed in, too light? too light? too light?" so I'm all "...it doesn't have any dressing but can you bring her a side of it then?" He comes back and says "Haha so I figured out why there's no dressing in your salad, they actually ran out soo...can I get you another type of dressing?" They didn't think to let us know beforehand? I have been going to other Norm's locations, specifically the Torrance location, for many years. Today my place of choice was closed, so I went to Norm's as a backup plan. Chose the Meatloaf dinner..they are generous with a decent Chicken soup and a spartan lettuce only salad. Honestly the food deserves 3stars but I bumped it to 4stars because I had good service. First timer at Norms! Came here really late on a random weekday night and had a surprisingly great experience. The sliders were really good. They came out hot and had a nice flavor. Definitely hit the spot for a late-night bite. Our server, Gabby, was so sweet. She was friendly and checked in on us just enough without hovering. There's also a parking lot, which made things easy since we weren't trying to deal with street parking that late. Would come back again for a chill late-night meal. Today I am eating at Norms for the third day day a row. Last two days I ate at the Lomita PCH location because I was attending Apartment Owners Association Convention at Long Beach Convention Center. This Lakewood and 91 Norms is super swamped at 10:30 am Thurs Aug 21. Every booth and table and counter has people in it stuffing themselves with pancakes and fries. Here is where Americans work on living up to their worldwide obese reputation. Today my friend Jessica is treating. I met Jessica at last year's Apartment Owners Association Convention at Long Beach Convention Center 2024. I ordered unusual Eggs Benedict menu creation Eggs Benedicto. $15.29. 2 crispy sope shells, chorizo, mixed cheese, 2 poached eggs topped with salsa verde, hollandaise, green onion and cilantro with pico de gallo. It took 45 min before I got my food served to me but my poached eggs were hard, when I asked for extra soft. So made them make me soft poached eggs, but that took another 20 min. Second time was perfect. My friend Jessica ordered the trout for $9.99. The trout was a bit fishy. The fillet was both sides of the trout and covered the entire plate, so fries and vegetable have to be piled on top of the fillets. In other words, Norms gives you the entire fish. I probably wouldn't order the trout in the future, due to fishiness. There are so many menu choices to pick from. The drink in the photo was ice coffee with salted caramel sauce. $4.39 My experience suffered from staff with too much to do on their hands, to get good service. Not their fault. They deserve a beefy tip for running around doing their best and management needs to hire more servers and cooks. read more

I been coming here for over 30 years. The food and Service fluctuates like a roller coaster. Some years are bad and some years are good. This visit I had was on Sunday 02.16.2025, right after church. I was greeted and Ordered a country style steak and a 1lb porter house steak. All came within 15 mins on a busy day. The porter house steak was delicious!! From the bread to the coffee, all tasted great. I will definitely come back again. Their customer service was excellent. Large portion size is back. Could not find anything negative about my visit. I've passed by Norms for most of my life ( I won't give away my age lol ) and I always say I'm going to go there one day and I finally made it! Me and the hubby came on a Saturday morning around 11:45. We found parking right on the side of the restaurant. We put our name in and it was about a 5-10 min wait which wasn't bad at all. It was pretty packed in there with families and couples young and old and even a family celebrating a birthday. Our waiter Jesse was pleasant and attentive with us as he took our order. I ordered a Green tea and the hubby had Coffee to drink. For food I ordered the Classic Bigger Better Breakfast w/ sourdough toast ( $15.49 ) and the hubby got the Country Fried Steak and Eggs ($17.79). Both are dishes were delicious and we had a little bit left over which we took home. I definitely will be coming back to norms and no it won't take me years to do so lol. read more

I was very angry with our server after getting the bill because it was 15 dollars more then I was planning for our meal. the reason was each order taken she asked if we wanted this or that with our meal thinking that was part of the original meal order we said yes but was never told it was an additional charge so a 65 dollar meal was now an 86 dollar meal. Breakfast is ALWAYS hustling and bustling, but their crew will always make your experience wonderful. We were seated fast, the food came out quickly, and the service was precise and efficient. My turkey sausage was grilled to perfection and still remained juicy. But, the stars of the show are the pancakes. They come in piping hot and fresh. Served with a delicious mound of butter atop this hot heavenly cake, the butter seeps into every crevice and the syrup is the crowning jewel. I don't know that anyone willfully goes to Norms. It's more a place where one winds up after a botched wedding reception, drinking binge, or gambling night. (See also: Patton Oswalt's bit about restaurants you go to versus restaurants you end up at.) I found myself at this Norms because most places not showing the Stupor Bowl were closed. Norms never closes. So I went to this outside of space and time restaurant. Because I don't have a normal human diet I ordered a waffle with strawberries & a whole side of fries with ranch. I don't see a legitimate reason to extensively unpack the acceptable ambience, or the competent service, or the palatability of the food. It's a Norms. The purpose of Norms is to be there when every other business has closed, deserted you, or 86'd you. So thank you Norms for adopting the business strategy of never closing. Note that "never closing" is not the same as "always open." Norms is less "ready to go" and more "not willing to call it a day." Thank you Norms for never giving your staff a moment of rest. read more
