Service and waitstaff set the tone from the moment the customer enters, and unfortunately our experience was one of the worst in recent memory. We write this as a hopeful opportunity for self-reflection and opportunity for the staff and management to continue to make their customer experience better but also to help validate if other customers may have a similar experience to let you know that you're not alone. Our server Meilani S. had let us choose any 2-person table during a Monday brunch hour service. When we sat down, we noticed that there was some remaining milk or other liquid (about ~1mL) presumably from customers who were there before us on the surface of the table and when Meilani returned with some water and as she asked if there was anything we'd like to order, I apologized but politely requested if she could clean the table that would be great. Unfortunately, this request seemed to have soured her mood and the rest of the dining experience was almost antagonistically cold. She whisked away the napkins and cutlery, cleaned the table, and then left us sitting at an empty table for about 5 minutes. While understandably she had other guests that she was trying to get food or water for, we waited patiently. And waited. And waited. When she did return with napkins and cutlery, she simply asked "What would you like" in a fairly cool manner and as my wife was asking about salad dressing recommendations, she simply stated that both were made in-house without giving any description or friendly personal thoughts on which one she would recommend. Her facial expression throughout this experience was flat, noncommittal with certainly no smile nor charm. She quickly took the rest of our order and left. I continued to watch her interactions with other customers in an attempt to understand if somehow I had offended her by my prior inquiry if she could help clean our table. For all the other customers she interacted with, she would small talk or chat and smile but when she went to go and do other tasks she would continue to have a very unhappy demeanor. As I tried to catch her attention towards the end of our meal, I kept being made to feel that she was deliberately ignoring or avoiding our table. Even when I asked for a take-out box and the check, she didn't say a word the entire time. Certainly Meilani S. may have been having a difficult day or a difficult time in her life where our dining experience was affected. Everyone can have a bad day. But what I was most disappointed is that we had been so very much looking forward to trying the Nook food but the service made everything (we tried two different styles of the Benedict) taste dreadfully poor. What is also disappointing is the different level of service compared to other customers, and certainly I hope that being non-white was not a contribution towards her cold demeanor towards us. And furthermore, if truly the only offense she had against us was that I had simply requested that the table be cleaned, if this was so offensive then yes, certainly, I could've chosen a different table. But more likely than not, I would choose an entirely different restaurant altogether. I would be remiss if I did not have an opportunity to comment on the food. The Banh mi Benedict is certainly creative and quite enjoyable. I rather enjoyed the concept. The honey-chipotle carnitas was interesting and certainly lived up to the honey component of the name. I have no doubt that the staff wants to try their best to make a pleasant ambiance as well as food service experience. However, I was professionally disappointed to the maximum as my expectations and the reality of the situation was completely discordant at the minimum. I write this review only in the hope for management as an opportunity to improve dining experience for future customers. I would hope that the ownership would help check in Meilani S. because if she is unhappy, then especially in the service industry those feelings can impact the customers. And for Meilani S., if we have somehow offended you by requesting politely for cleaning the table, I have only confusion as to how to ask future restaurants of the quality that I can only imagine Nook aspires to be how to ask for cleanliness and am certainly open towards your recommendations on how to ask more politely. And in this overall restaurant experience, I am deeply disappointed. read more

Usually love this restaurant but we didn't have the kindest service on Mothers Day. We were told our reservation was to be given away unless our entire party was here, and we were missing two people. I understand restaurant policy but wish it was delivered a bit nicer. Our entire party got there 7 minutes after our reservation and they would've given away our table for a booked day if it was three more minutes. A majority of us got to the place 10 minutes early. I went to a birthday party today at Nook. We were a group of nine that came in without a reservation since there was a miscommunication about the reservation different location nearby. Since it was Sunday and noon, we thought we'd have a really long wait but it was 25 minutes and we were able to wait inside comfortably.. what they got a drink orders right away. Several minutes later our food orders were taken. There was such a wonderful selection of options. I had a hard time choosing between savory and sweet. I decided to go with the nutrition bowl. I was very happy with my choice, the space wasn't too noisy and had attentive service. One thing was for our party of 8 ladies, they couldn't split up the check into individual tabs; they have a limit of splitting into four. Luckily everybody at the table was able to figure out a way of dividing it into four parts. I haven't been to Nook in quite some ( due to the pandemic). For this brunch birthday bonanza, it was a wonderful choice and I'm glad that we were able to check out Nook. I'm happy to say I'd go back again anytime. We had our first experience at Nook to celebrate my birthday. We sat outside in the patio for breakfast. I really loved the natural flowers and decor. My husband had the pulled pork chilaquilas that were absolutely delicious! I had the carrot protein bread and I really loved it! Our waitress was awesome refilling our coffee and brought our food out quickly! The inside of restaurant was really nice and had a contemporary sign. Restroom had really cute decor as well. The Nook is a delightful spot for brunch. You can either enter from the street entrance or the garden area in the back, where they grow their veggies and herbs used in their dishes. The back patio is doggo friendly, so you can bring Fido along. The menu here is scannable via QR code but they do have paper menus, as those are easier to view the entire menu when you can't decide between the myriad of great options available. I ordered the breakfast tamale pie with poached runny eggs atop - it was cooked to perfection, and I enjoyed every bite. My brunch companions had a benedict and a breakfast bowl - they were also quite pleased with their meals. The service was good, and we were in and out of there within 45 minutes. I found this cute little nook (pun intended) on Yelp while searching for breakfast/brunch on my first full day in Tucson. It happened to be right down the street from my hotel, less than like a 5 minute walk. It had good reviews and everyone seemed to love the scones so I gave it a shot. They have a really nice, private courtyard for outdoor dining, which I walked thru because google couldn't decide where the front door was. Anyway, since I HAD to get the scones, I wanted something savory for my entree. Many of the items sounded delicious, but I opted for the salmon burger with smashed hash. If you don't get anything else here, try their warm blueberry scones because they were like, Oh Em Gee so so good. Came here for Brunch and unfortunately they didn't take same day reservation so my friend and I came with the hopes that the wait wouldn't be too long. And what do you know, they told us that if we'd be willing to sit out in the patio, they had a table available immediately. Otherwise, it was going to be a 20-30 minutes wait. Not wanting to wait, obviously we decided that it was going to be an outdoor brunch kind of day. Well, that was a mistake. Despite the many umbrellas shades they had out in the patio, none of them was opened up to protect anyone from the sun. And I gotta tell ya, the desert sun was not playing around that day. It was like the angry sun from the Mario games came to live and trying to burn everyone alive. Management said that the shades weren't being opened because of the wind and I was just like, "what wind?". I mean, if that was the case, at the very least please have some fans out? I mean, it was so hot that I had to put my phone under the table because it was overheating from the heat. Now, if you can brave the sun and the heat, I can frankly tell you that Nook serves some good food. See how I feel about the blueberry scones above. For my meal, I ordered the hanger steak and eggs; and my friend ordered the breakfast tamale pie. Both of these were excellent and I would recommend either one of them to anyone. My friend also ordered the Mexican candy mimosa which she loved, but it was just okay for me. But that's mostly because I'm not really a tequila kind of guy and she is. Anyway, my first visit here was just okay because I was being toasted alive while trying to enjoy my excellent meals. Hopefully management can figure out how to allow their patrons dine outside without being burned by the sun. I headed here for lunch on Sunday! I knew there could be a little bit of a wait (I believe you can make reservations online in advance or call, just not the same day). We waited about 20 mins but we didn't mind since it was a beautiful day! The hostess and waitress were both very nice! I was intrigued by the blueberry scones and decadent pancakes, but we both went more in the lunch direction with the Asian Chopped Salad (w/ added salmon) and the Tucson. All of the veggies in the salad were yummy and the salmon made it a great meal! I really enjoyed the Tucson and feel like it was made for me since it is a chili chicken burger! I have been there a couple of times and the staff can be at times inconsistent, sometimes I will have the best service other times they are slow, not attentive or forgetful. While exploring a bit of Tucson, we decided to have lunch at the Nook. We had a little bit of a wait for a table, but we sat outside and it was really a nice day so it was fine. When the food came, some parts of the dish were missing. We commented to the waitress and she asked the chef about it. The missing butternut squash was because they had run out, and there was so very little quinoa .... But a positive is they comped us with a percentage off, which was kind. The salad was fine, the tofu and chicken were really good, but the few pieces of zucchini were not a good substitute for the squash.
