About a 1-1.5: Not sure what is going on with Noodle Box, but their consistency in terms of the food preparation and flavors, along with their drink menu, needs a lot of work. We have enjoyed this semi-fast casual Thai eatery for their noodle dishes and their teas - however, the noodles have been constantly overcooked, being gummy and overly 'swollen'; the sauces are hardly dressing any of the ingredients. The drinks, in which we usually find refreshing, are super watered down and flavored with artificial syrups, making them undrinkable. We have left tossing multiple items, as they were just inedible. In addition, the space just has this unpleasant sewage-like odor, which isn't great if you plan on dining in. Staff are pretty friendly. No dice, Noodle Box. We love this place! We had green tea with mango Boba and passionfruit green tea with strawberry Boba large size. Two teas came to a total of $12.14. The food smelled so good in this little shop. Great takeout spot! Was excited to have a noodle place near by when I bought a house in Old Town. Only ordered from here twice so far. Ironically both times I got curry and rice instead of noodles lol first time around I ordered the red curry and it was divine! Properly spicy just how I like, they are not messing around. 2nd time I decided to be a little more adventurous and ordered massaman curry which I never had before. They gained my trust the first time around to try something new and it did not disappoint! My first complaint comes from the food being very heavy. It tasted alright, but gives you that feeling of being very full for a few hours after, and the same happened to my friend. Definitely something you'll need to walk off to go back to normal. The second star I marked off was due to the bathroom being quite dirty. I'm not sure how often the restroom is cleaned, but it did seem like there weren't that many people working, so maybe that's why. The toilet and sink had dirt on them, there were no towels apart from a roll sitting there, and the ceiling wasn't very clean either. You will get your food very quickly so this is good when you have limited tim Ambiance- the space is small but warm and comfortable. There is a nice seating space at the window if you enjoy people watching in Old Town. The space is clean and has enough seating for a small party- not a large party. Food- I got something simple- the Thai Fried Rice- while I enjoyed the flavor the rice was soggy. On a positive note- the flavors were so fragrant- I could taste it long after I finished ordering. The vegetables were raw including the onion (now I actually I enjoy raw veggies and onions but for many this would not be enjoyable) The part that did me in was that the shrimp was undercooked. I did enjoy the mango bubble tea. They have a good variety of boba flavors. Final Analysis- looking for a quick bite for lunch on the run- sure but if you're looking to sit down and have quality Thai, I would choose another space. It has mostly Thai food among the Asian items. Getting here is east from the bus. It's just to the east of the main intersection. My latest venture was a weekday during the COVID pandemic for carry out, and it's good to know that this is a small restaurant and if you're waiting for your order, know that you'll be sharing a small indoor space with others, probably less than 6 feet. This is what happened to me around 12:30 on a weekday...about 6-7 people all waiting for food. Good to know if you're anxious about being that close to others right now. Everyone did wear masks responsibily so that helps! Now on to the food. It's delicious! Their serving sizes are generous and their prices reasonable. The food is always freshly made, the noodles always soft and separated (not globbed together), and the vegetables crisp. I liked that the noodles in this dish are wide and an easy chew. Soaked up a good amount of flavor from the sauce used. I am not vegetarian but since we had been eating all of this seafood (DC and Maryland are supposed to have good seafood right?) that I wanted some more fiber in my diet so I just opted for the tofu. I liked the mixed vegetables in this. But I wasn't a fan of all of the oil that was used. I think I would request for them to go easy on the oil since the food is made to order. However, the negative that we experienced during our dining experience (since we ate our food here) was the heat inside the small eatery. There was a portable A/C unit by the register, which we sat next to. But it didn't do anything to help cool down the restaurant. For $13, we only got six or seven pieces of dried out, overcooked chicken and some vegetables on a bed of rice. The pad see yew was not good either. The rice noodles were mushy and the chicken had an odd smell (it reminded me of the smell of cleaning a flattop grill with water). The gyoza were deep fried and were dripping with grease. We did enjoy the curry puffs and the bubble teas. While I would not recommend the food we tried, I did feel like the staff attempted to provide a good experience.
